Congrats on the Captiva! I think it suits your buying criteria to the T. I've always insisted that, for someone who doesn't need the 4x4 or broken road package, the Captiva (and other soft-roaders like the Outlander) are much better than the Fortuner. The Captiva has super interiors, is car like to drive and feels distinctly premium.

Drive safe

Thanks GTO. Car like to drive - absolutely yes. Felt completely comfortable after first few nervous moments since after driving the Civic, Captiva feels like we're driving sitting in the first floor!! The power surge after 1800 rpm is just insane!!

Re: Totally 'CAPTIVA'ted - My Chevrolet Captiva!

Captiva has got a great road presence.2Ltr diesel is really a performer. I have driven the cruze .But you say that the turbo lag is somewhere around 1800 rpm but i felt the turbo lag is around 2400rpm in cruze. How is it so, because what i understand is the same engine is plonked into the Cruze.

You could have paid the ex showroom price by raising an invoice with in this dec and you could have registered the car in Jan 11. Atleast making it as the JAN 11 registered car eventhough the car is manufactured in 2010.

Nope from what I've driven so far, the turbo is in action from around 1800-2000 rpm. There is amazing power delivery at 2000 rpm. And from the specs its clear that the maximum torque of 320 NM is produced at 2000 rpm. Can some experts confirm? GTO?

And yes the car will be registered in 2011.

Re: Totally 'CAPTIVA'ted - My Chevrolet Captiva!

Had an interesting experience today with Chevy and I thought I should share this on T-BHP so that it'll be of some help to others. As you all know by now, we took delivery of our car on 23rd of this month. This is what happened:

Rewind - 2 months back when a SP from Sundaram Motors had come to give a TD of Captiva. This was the conversation we had during the TD.

SP: Sir this Captiva comes with a cooled glovebox where you can keep your drinks chilled. You can either turn it on or off depending on what you need. You just need to rotate the knob here.
ME: Oh thats a nice feature to have.
SP: Just have a look sir, this is the knob i'm talking about. Just rotate this and you can control the air flow.
ME: Ah yes I can see that. Good thing to have in summers.
SP: Sir you also have that this etc....

I was really impressed with this cooled glove box thing. The next day after we took delivery of the car, I was just going through the manual which tells about the knob which one has to rotate to switch on and off the air flow. I went back to the car to try this and to my surprise the KNOB IS MISSING!!! There is a hole, but its sealed with some rubbery substance and no air from the AC is flowing there.

I make it a point to visit the showroom the next day. Here is the conversation with the sales guy at the showroom:

ME: I was checking through the manual and I found this knob missing in the glove box to control the flow of air. Can you just confirm why its like this on a new car??
SP: No sir, sorry to inform you that this feature had been withdrawn 6 months back.
ME: What do you mean to say, its given in the manual, the other SP explained about that feature when he came for TD and now you are saying its not available. I cannot accept this. Put me to your boss.
SP: No sir its been withdrawn and the TD vehicle had it. Must be thats why he has explained it to you.
ME: What if the TD vehicle had?? Is it not your responsibility to tell me that its not available now? Even the brochure says that cooled Glovebox is a standard feature. Anyway, I want to speak to your boss.

He walks away and informs this to his manager. Here is the conversation with the manager:

Manager: Sir sorry, but the feature is withdrawn.
ME: In that case, here are the keys, let this car be with you and I want my money back.
Manager: Sir we really cant do anything about this, please understand.
ME: No sorry, I cannot understand this. First you explain to me about this feature during the TD, you have it in the manual and the brochure and now you say this. You have taken me for a ride. I just cannot accept this. If you are not authorised to take decisions I want to talk to somebody who can.
(I was really furious this time)

So now he hurriedly goes to another chamber and calls the GM(General Manager) and here is the conversation with him.

GM: Sir we're really sorry about this.
ME: But tell me why the hell did your people explain to me about that when its been withdrawn?? I have been taken for a ride.
GM: Sir we really dont have those intension's.
ME: You had intension's or not but its happened. Tell me what you can do about this. (He thinks for a while and then)
GM: Sir give us few days time, when you come for your first service I would have sourced all the parts required and as a special case we will install this in your Captiva.
ME: Thats more like it. But please tell your people not to fool people around with this non-existent feature. It's really not right.
GM: Yes sir we would certainly do that.

This whole episode took an hour and a half and finally they've agreed to source in the parts and install it. Attached are pictures in the manual which talk about this feature.

These people take everything for granted and thats what made me furious. Anyway the problem is now solved. Would like to know from other CAPTIVA owners (those who have bought it in the last 6 months) on the forum who had this problem.

Re: Totally 'CAPTIVA'ted - My Chevrolet Captiva!

Congrats on the Captiva. It is one of the best SUVs around and one real looker as well. Apart from the Fortuner, I really admire this car and the presence it commands.

The only thing i found a bit of a (very minor) let down is the not so glam or futuristic interiors. Great colour choice as well

I am not surprised to hear about the above incident. I had recently bought the Beat LT for my wife, and the TD car had a tray under the seat, the manual shows it and when I get the car, it aint there. They told me the same reason, that it was there and it does not come anymore.

Now, if the remove the feature, they should esnure that it is non existent to the new buyer, and not display it all around, and when you get you car, they say it has been withdrawn. And why withdraw such minimalistic features. It aint gonna cost a dent ony anyones wallet, be it the tray or the knob

Thanks thedreamcatcher. Its exactly what I pointed out to them. The sales guys show us all the features which are not available and then later do this. It was not a problem if they had told it earlier, its not a deal breaker, but its not right to say something is available and then say sorry. Just not acceptable.

Re: Totally 'CAPTIVA'ted - My Chevrolet Captiva!

congrats anantu
captiva was is on my wish list and was putting it off due to new model being launched in 2011 and i am not in hurry..
the best thing i like is, its well propotioned exteriors, surprisingly its spacious from inside, and it suffices my requirment of occasional 7 seater too.
however your review makes me feel i should go for it now, one more reason being even if the new model comes in, it will be some time before they launch auto version going by indian way of car launch..
enjoy the beauty.
