Great, thanks! I just needed an idea. The lease term should be 5 years, minimum 4. It means they are probably quoting higher than what one can get on the market.

re: Skoda Yeti@ India (An ownership review) EDIT: Now sold!

Hi,

One more question: which is a recommended Skoda/Yeti car dealer in Delhi/Gurgaon? Considering the horror stories of Skoda *** I'd like to go to a dealer with a good reputation.

TIA

Hi OS,

There is actually only one dealer in Gurgaon - Giriraj and Jai Auto are the same and run by the same JSB Auto from Delhi. I also bought my Yeti from them in Dec-2010.
If you are buying from Delhi, you can consider Fahrenheit Auto in Moti Nagar.
The recent price which I have seen for Ambiente was 14.49 Lacs (less corp discount 25K), but with the competition from XUV500, they are bound to react and start additional discounts!

Regards,
Behemoth

Since you guys are using VAG-COM, have you tried activating the exterior dimming mirrors on the Ambiente? I think the mirrors would be the same on both with only the feature deactivated.

Also what all have you activated on your Ambiente till date?

Loved the Clarkson review. Loved his take and technique --- and the car does come out of it all looking really good.

Hi Akshay,
So far some of the tweaks that I have done in my Yeti Ambiente:

1) Idle RPM increased to 820 (initially I had taken it to 850, now reduced to 820, which is also sufficient and saves on fuel). Current efficiency I am getting is in the range of 16.6 kmpl (mix of City (40%) and highway (60%))
2) Dial staging activated - dial needles sweep on ignition on
3) Cornering fogs activated - foglights turn on towards direction of turn when the steering is turned
4) Auto lock at 15Kmph - doors now Autolock
5) Single button press unlock for doors (earlier it was single button driver door unlock only).

I was trying for the dimming ORVMs and the mirror dip on reverse, but it seems that these features are not available in the hardware of the mirrors installed in the Ambiente and even if I code it in, it generates an error.

The projector lamp upgrade will be a quite complicated process as the entire headlamp units have to be upgraded, along with HID lamps and gear, which are quite expensive too! I have no plans for this yet and knowing Skoda warranty policies, would not want to take this risk!

Yes, the Clarkson review is truly hilarious especially the Icecream in burning building and the helicopter on the roof! Even the part where a person gets a Tattoo sitting in a Yeti is also funny and must have been very painful for the guy getting it. There are also some other videos on the Topgear website which are the post-video videos, in which the Tattoo guy actulally shows the tattoos and shares his pain!

I currently have activated coming home lights but it needs to be done manually by pulling the light switch once before turning the ignition off. How can i find out if the wiring is already in place for the new switch to work?
Quite possible, but before getting into that you will need to see if you have the Rain and Light sensor in your car, easiest way to know that is to look at the base of the internal rvm and see if has sensors. If you have the sensors then you will again need to check if the switch has the proper wiring, there is a wiring requirement from the switch to the BCM, Yeti Elegence already have this wiring and RLS sensor in place, so just swapping the switch make everything work!

For auto dimming ORVM you need a different mirror and control module, I believe that may not be there in Ambient.
I checked the auto folding mirror option but its too costly to get that feature, this feature need a different mirror assembly and then different door controller, the cost for the spare comes to 1200Euro! same goes with Bi-Xenon headlight[its Bixenon, single light for high and low] it need to 2 sensor on on each in front suspension and rear suspension for auto adjustment apart from different headlight unit, wiring and a new controller that need to be hooked from headlight to BCM, this may also need a new wiper tank for auto wash, the current one can hold 2 ltr, while the auto wash is 5 liter with a sensor, too much parts need to be imported and then you need a competent mechanic to get this installed and right coding in VCDS to get all these working!

Thanks Behemoth! I had contacted Jai Auto both in Delhi and Gurgaon and I have to say my experience with them was very weird. The guy in Delhi quoted 16.2L on the phone, when he came with the car for the TD he quoted 16.8L and refused to budge (this was about a month ago).

The guy in Gurgaon a couple of days ago told me he'd get back to me with the EMIs in 10-15 minutes. Forget calling back, he never took my call after that.

I wonder if they aren't interested to sell or what?

Meanwhile I also spoke to Arshia Motors in CP.

Currently the discount offered is 85,000, but even then for the Ambiente on road including Skoda Shield and Skoda assure I am not getting anything less than 16.1-16.2L, at least so far. This was a day before the XUV launch so I hope they will respond a bit more positively now.

Hi OS,

Yes, there is a problem with the responsiveness of Skoda staff at all showrooms. But you can be sure that the XUV500 launch will force them to wake up and put their act together. You can also expect higher discounts on the Yeti and also the launch of lower specced and priced versions before Diwali. I also saw the XUV500 on Friday (shared my experiences on the XUV thread) and it is an amazing VFM car. IMO, it will give the Yeti a very difficult time. However the Quality and reliability of the XUV will become known after some time - one of my close friends has booked it and should get delivery in 2 months - I will the feedback when he gets the delivery.

Behemoth

Well, one can only hope. I like the Yeti, but the sales staff is really atrocious. Or supremely confident. During the TD when I was trying to push the dealer for a discount he was rubbishing all other cars including Fortuner, BMW X1 etc., claiming that Yeti beats them all hollow and that therefore they don't need to give discounts as the discerning customer will buy and the other ones they are not interested in. Only time will tell whether they are going to win or lose with that strategy.

Look forward to it. I think the car looks good.

Am also still waiting for some manufacturer to sit up and listen to the not insignificant segment that wants a techically good, comfortable 4wd SUV without all the bells and whistles at a sub 10 L price. But that topic belongs to another thread.

Did you install the cruise control unit that you bought? how did it go? If it works, it is simply brilliant.

Hi @ pramods , @sushil, just want to reconfirm mileage for city driving. Sales exec says even 11 is only possible with very sensible driving. Can you tell me what is a consistent FE in the city.

Thanks

I get around 13-14 in city and 16-17 on highway, lately been driving "sensibly" on highway and getting 18+
