Initial Review: VW New Beetle 2009

To my surprise, post 9 months since its launch, there isnt a single review on new beetle. glad, i'm first . Will be out with its review soon.Just a couple of pics from my mobile for now.

Havent really driven it much to give its complete review, but to start with; Fit,finish and quality of material is top-notch and very very german. first thing that caught my attention was the missing body color inner door-panel in my white beetle. Which is a exception on a white and yellow beetles. Lack of fog lamps, gives this car an incomplete look from front, nevertheless its still Eye-grabbin, head-turnin cute. Its so cute, that its embarrassing to be seen driving one (infamous chick car). Well to make things easy, i claim its a gift for my wife .

The firt drive, right from showroom to back home, i had people at every traffic signal knocking on my window, asking me to roll down; and asked every question they could think of in 30 secs; from the cost to mileage, to cc to how many gears, why only two doors, how to get into the back seat, boot space and so on and so forth.

Accessories(twin exhaust,Tailgate spoiler) havent arrived yet, atleast those'll bling its back a lil, which is otherwise bland. its got more "awe-factor" per buck than any car under 25L. Wish VW brought in the 150horse version instead of this sluggish 116 to justify the throat-slitting price tag.

Congrats!! Seems like the first thread on T-BHP. The bug does look cute. What was the thought process that made you choose the Beetle?

Waiting for a detailed review of your 'wife's car' including driving impressions etc. How much has the car done till now? Please do share the breakup of cost (if you are comfortable with that).

Woah Tushar Congrats on your Latest Pick mite.
Forget this being the first review on the Bug, Damn this is the first one in White I've seen buddy.
Personally, I am not a big fan of the Beetle and never was. In fact, I would stare a Polo longer than a Beetle if both were to pass me simultaneously. But have to admit this Tushar, your VW Bug in White has really changed my perception man!!
AWESOME

Het thushar. I have become a fan of yours. Your buggy looks cute better than any yellows.

Which engine does it have? What does it drink ? And finally, What is its price

Congrats Tushar on the gorgeous beauty. Would like to see a more detailed report though. Also, upload the interior pictures too.

The wheels look very similar to the ones on Skoda Laura L&K. Are they the same 16 inchers?

Tushar, Congratulations for buying this beauty.

Seriously, I had never thought that VW Beetle would look very awesome in white color. I'm eagerly looking forward for a detailed report with loads of pictures.

Do keep us updated. Drive safe.

Congrats on the car! Just out of curiosity why you did not choose the fiat 500?
P.S. Fiat has a strong fan following in India and Much more in TBHP. But, I fail to understand why the 500's haven't caught the buyers imagination. I have seen many beetles on the road but not one 500. And mind you the 500 is a newer design by approx. 10 years.

It all comes down to "exclusivity" 25odd Ls can buy you "lot many cars or many other cars" ; but nothing brings more joy+attention+smile like this bug does...I'd call it a "priceless" possession.

Ex-showroom price approx 21L + Reg 1.3L + Insurance 1.2L + Accessories 1.5L + Handling 8K; from which they waved off my insurance, on-road worked out to Approx 25L.

In 5 days, its done around 120km odd.

Yellow looks horrid and flat in metal

Thanks buddy, Interiors aren't worth mentioning at all, except for its finish and texture. Nothing great and even more bland coz VW India isn't giving fabric choice yet n never will, i guess. Grey looks super boring and sooner or later one tends to overlook its stodgy interiors. It makes you smile and forget the rest, i'm telling u mate, its got something about it.

Thanks, bug comes in salsa red, laser blue, candy white, sunflower, black & reflex silver. It looks the best in red for sure. Our other cars are in white as well and i didnt wanna break the monotony and i reckon white, coz i'll never get bored of it unlike bright colors.

Whatever said and done, Beetle remains a beetle. 500, mini, 2cv are all legendary cars, agreed but there something about beetle which makes it look apart even after decades. 500 was on my mind too but they never offered an automatic neither would they bring their infamous Abarth here. Mini is too diluted these days. Beetle is outdated and thats what makes it a beetle after all. Look at the new gen 2010 beetle pics, VW's lost it.

15" wheels buddy, Ride is relatively plush but i do wish to upgrade to 17" much later once my first set of tyres wear out. Runs on a super grippy, 195/60 Pirelli

Reminds me of my Yellow Karizma motorcycle I bought back in 2004. We were followed by two persons for at least 2kms after we were driving home from the showroom till the next traffic lights. We were getting suspicious but they turned out to be admirers of my beauty.
