I have now done 5000 kms. of running on my car and here are some of my observations.
1) The car is totally free from the "Turbo charger" problem now. Thanks to the Works Manager Mr.Karthikeyan of Downtown Volkswagen, Bangalore.
2) The engine appears to be a lot smoother and there is no jerking at all (It was not there earlier as well) and so far the quantity of engine oil that has been used to top up is about 200 ml.
3) The mileage returned (tank full to tank full basis) is around 16 kms. for city driving and 21 kms. for long distance drives.
4) Paint condition is excellent with no signs of chipping of anywhere and the gloss has remained very good.
5) Plastics have retained their black colour and there are no signs of whitening even though the car is washed with water everyday.
6) Rubber beadings are in good condition without any signs of being torn or damaged.
The car is now in perfect condition after the initial hiccup.

Congratulations Mr. Mallya! You have really been putting on the miles! The engine definitely does feel to settle in much more as the odo keeps ticking. Happy motoring.

Mr Uvmallya - thanks much for your updates. I'm really glad you're enjoying your car and have not had any more problems. While VW's response to your predicament was NOT the best, they STILL took care of your car. I think that's very important; it should be considered a positive step towards VW's endeavor of providing top tier after sales service.

BTW the mileage figures you've reported are simply awesome. I'm sure the car would feel freer now after running in the engine. FWIW, we recently got a Vento, but I've been a long time admirer of the Polo and definitely consider it as the most desirable hatchback in the market. I hope that will be our next car, as soon as there is space in the driveway.

Mileage of my Polo also has increased after the first service and software upgrade. I will check it on tankful to tankful basis and confirm.

The VW dealership at Mangalore has started delivery of new vehicles. Though an official opening is yet to be done the dealer has already given delivery of the new "Beetle" and "Polo" cars. This report along with relevant photographs was published in a local daily newspaper today.

Wow, you must be a relieved man now! Your patience and ability to stay calm in such a situation is commendable. If I put myself in your shoes, I would have blown steam quite some time ago (not proud of that at all!)

The car is nearly 8 months old now and has just crossed 6000 kms. running. The bad road conditions around Mangalore may have been the reason that the car was not being used for long drives. But now with the roads being slightly better you feel like taking the car for a long drive. The turbo charger complaint which was there earlier has totally disappeared and it is a pleasure to drive the car. Engine oil consumption has been 200 ml. by way of topping up until now. No problems with the brakes or the handbrake. The mileage returned is a steady 17 kms/litre in city driving. There has been no chipping of the paint and the gloss is as good as it was when the car was delivered. In conclusion, I am pretty happy with the overall performance of the car. We do see a lot of VW Polo and VW Vento cars in the city now with the opening of the new dealership.

Wow! That is good news.

In my case also, after the software was updated, the engine has become smoother. Now, the city mileage has also improved. Planning to update my Polo thread with details by this week end.

@ Chethan B G - Glad to know that your car engine has become smoother along with improved mileage. I am awaiting your updated Polo thread and would appreciate if you could mention about the suspension behaviour and tyre wear since your car is one which has done more mileage amongst the many Polo cars delivered.

UVM, good to know that the car is now trouble free after 6k and has been stabilized. Even my car (petrol HL) is in the workshop for a similar kind of issue. Initially the car had minor vibrations and could be felt through steering column. After a few days, the engine warning light started blinking now and then. I reported that to dealer (palace cross Bangalore) and was checked but not rectified as they could not diagnose the problem. They lodged the complaint with VW and it took couple of weeks for them to get back. It happened at 13.5K KMs.

The car was running fine except for this minor vibrations and no warning light. So i was told to drive the car but not exceeding 60kmph and the problem will be fixed during 15K service. I agreed.

At 15K, i got the car serviced but the problem was not attended. At his point, VW knew what the problem was and could not fix because of no spare parts. They have to order it from pune and the culprit which is a sensor is engine/chassis specific.

Again, I drove back the car with the problem still in my hand. After a few days, the engine started vibrating more (even more when the AC was on) and would vibrate violently when kept at idle (traffic signals etc...) for a long time (a minute or so). I had to switch off the engine and start again else it wont move and it happened couple of times in the traffic.

Now i decide that i wont drive the car anymore until it is fixed. I requested for a flat bed truck and the car was taken to the workshop. Now the spares have arrived and the work is in progress. The car has done 16K.

They have to remove the head of the engine to replace the sensor. I hope they do it with perfection.

I think we are the two people who had to undergo problems with our VW Polo cars delivered by different dealers in Bangalore. I am glad to see that your car is being attended to by the dealer as the required spare part has arrived. If you are satisfied with the job done by them then take the car after signing the satisfaction report. If the problem persists then leave the car with dealer until it is repaired to your satisfaction and also demand for a loaner car from them until the problem with your car is set right.

Please refer to Gaurav Chopra's thread. He faced the exact same problem. Initially, they replaced the sensor but the problem was not resolved. Later, they had to replace the entire engine head.
There have been various issues reported in this forum for different cars but not like the ones found in the Polo. Very scary indeed!

UVM, how did you sign the satisfactory report? Did you sign it after going for a test drive or after a few days? Because this is one kind of a problem where you wont come to know immediately. After a few days it might reaccur.
Today i visited the workshop and the engine was dismantled. The defective sensor is a camshaft sensor and they had already replaced it with the new one. As adimicra said, they had replaced the entire assy where the sensor is placed.

After the repair job was done at the workshop I was taken for a test drive in my car along with the mechanic and the works manager. It was a long test drive and after being satisfied with the performance I signed the satisfaction report and took delivery of the car. If the problem surfaces again after some time you are perfectly within your rights to take the vehicle back to the dealer for rectification of the problem. I do agree with the view expressed by Adimicra.

Just an observation...all the cars (the one i am aware of) which cuaght with this problem belong to the earlier set of polo.
