Re: Mercedes E 250d W124

The gentleman who bought the car off me - calls me twice a day to update me on the car. He does not get tired of thanking me for "giving him a brilliant car" - his words - not mine. He has already sourced fabric for the seats / interiors, I am told it is next to the stock which the car came with....

He shall bring the car back to me once he is thru with it. I would love to post pictures for all the classic car lovers here.

Hope to do it when I get to see the car, post his little tweaking !!

Cheers

Hey Ricky,

Why don't you persuade the new owner to join the forum, that way we all can continue to enjoy the 'brilliant car' that you so passionately re-built or restored! Provided he posts updates as regularly as you do.

Ya I could ask him to join the forum, he may or he may not, he also has a small museum of vintage cars, 2 wheelers & automotive memrobilia

Re: Mercedes E 250d W124

UPDATE :-

Ran into my W124 (if I may still call her that) today. Was delighted to see the way the car is being looked after. An absolute pleasure to see it being treated with kid gloves !!

Attaching some pics for those that may wish to see how she looks !!

Do note the squeaky clean engine bay & body line...speaks volumes how she is being pampered, usually does not exceed 60 kmph :-)

Re: Mercedes E 250d W124

Hi All

The car is up for sale, the current owner ran into some unforeseen circumstances, hence would like to part with it :-(

I would have happily bought it back, but the thought of it just sitting in my garage just does not sound appealing to me.

So in case anyone is SERIOUSLY interested, pls PM me for the same.

The car is just as it is - maybe a tad better, with new upholstery and a fresh coat of polish !

Cheers

Re: Mercedes E 250d W124

I am keen to know what the price quoted would be in its present state. I would also like to know if NOC procurement assistance and original invoice can be got in order to pay road tax in a different state.

Re: Mercedes E 250d W124

Dear Ricky,
I've been through this thread of yours umpteen number of times and convinced myself that someday I would get a chance to own a W124 Diesel version. That chance is right at hand but then the one that I got to see a couple of days ago is a far cry from what I see in this thread of yours.
  • Its an original imported 1990 version of Merc that has seen 76K Kms under 2 owners in 22 years
  • The car is in an utter state of neglect after a freak accident 8 months ago, the owner claims so.
  • The engine starts in one stroke and the 4 box AT moves the car without a hitch even after 8 months of slumber and start experience. The engine is a gem and has the familiar diesel clatter of the past
  • The AC is powerful even without the front windshield, the rear and the front 2 windows rolled down
  • The power window switches are not working
  • The yearly import tax has not been paid since last year, the insurance too is to be paid. The owner claims that both would be just a matter of Rs.8-10K
  • The tinker had experiemented his chisel on the dents and had given it horrible dimples on the roof, nevertheless the A and B pillars are rock solid and can withstand a blow from the bulldozer yet
  • The door pad on the front, the wooden panel around the AC (read it as EC) controls, the plastic claddings on the B pillars which houses the seat belts are all gone. The leather seats are cracking due to exposure to the elements
  • The current owner has managed to buy the front and rear windshields, headlights, tail lamps, monograms, an OE set of 4 MB alloys, wiper blade etc and wants to give it all to the one who buys the car
  • The front bumper, the windshield rubber beading and sealant, and the water drain beadings for the roof are the ones to be bought, the owner says
Is it worth buying this car? How much will the expense be for restoring this to her original shape and size if done at a MB workshop. Is it advisable to go in for the body restoration at a local garage who deal with imported cars?

Ricky, GTO and the other experts-Could you please guide me here

@Jehu

This car needs a fair bit of work, from what I can tell. I think by the time you are thru with this - you would be looking at around 3L spent IF you want OE kind of work, otherwise if all the mechanicals etc are fine...under 2 would be good

Unless of course you want to buy my car !! :-)

Hope that helps

Cheers

Thanks Ricky for that quick reply. Tell me who wants to let go of your car which looks as if its fresh off the assembly line

I just wanted to have lesser hassles with the RTO while trying to move your car to my State.

What price estimate ? For restoring the car posted above ?? Sorry I do not own or run a garage, and an estimate can only be made if the car is there in front of you
