Two weeks back, while driving my Figo, the engine overheating warning came off and I stopped the car. Checked the engine bay and to my horror, found that the coolant tank was empty. There was a fissure in the piping to the radiator where the thermostat is located. I let the engine cool down and limped home (this happened some 100 mtrs from my home). The good old temperature gauge would have helped me identify the problem much early. Why did they do away with that?
Gave it to Lathangi Ford for a check up and they replaced the hose and the thermostat free of cost, as it is still under warranty. But I noticed two things after the repair.
1. They had only filled the coolant to the lowest required level (because it is free? Come on people!).
2. I opened the hood and saw that the engine cover was missing. When I asked where is it, they found it from somewhere and fixed it.

I've done around 800kms after the repair and everything seems to be fine.

I also got the Fiesta Classic alloys for my car this time. Changed all five of the original steel wheels.

There was a TSB to replace thermostat from a batch of the Figos due to faulty part. They were replacing for another car when I was there even though he never had overheating issues. They said the thermostat design was causing coolant leakage. The earlier batches did not have this issue.

Thanks for the info Viddy. Any idea which batch was affected by this? (I mean the time period). Mine is a March 2011 manufactured one. Nothing was conveyed to me regarding the TSB during the first service or later.

The car which they replaced was purchased in June 2011 so maybe similar batch.

Metro Ford informed that the thermostat was faulty and could cause coolant leakage. No more information was given to me.

Experienced my first engine stalling yesterday. Waiting to happen again before going for the fix.
Also my gear shift has become very smooth now, a slight push to neutral from 2nd makes it 3rd. Is this due to wear and tear of rubber bushes or the gear shift is really butter now?

Couple of updates about my recent Figo trouble. 3 week backs, I started hearing rattling sound from behind (near the boot). It was very faint initially, but as time passed, it became loud enough. On good roads, the car would be back to normal. But on inner city roads, the rattling was very apparent. I also had very faint rattling sound in the dashboard. So I finally took it to Cauvery Ford, Mysore workshop. Gave a test drive with the SA to show him( or rather make him listen) to the problem/sound. They took an entire day but could not figure out the source of the problem. Had to leave it overnight. The next day SA called me and informed me that link rod had been bent and it had to be replaced. He mentioned that it could have happened when I hit some big pothole. Then immediately it flashed to me that 2 weeks earlier on my way back from Blr to Mysore, my wife had shown a pothole which comes immediately after a hump when entering RamNagar/Chennapatna and had told that she had hit it last time she was there and that I should be careful about it

Luckily, the SA got everything fixed and it was Zero pay bill as everything was covered under warranty. The car was delivered after wash and polish as they do when servicing. So excellent job overall by Cauvery Ford and SA(Narayan) in particular.

I have covered 16k till now. My 20K service will be due in Feb.

On side note, I hit 165kmph on NICE road after my 15k wheel balancing, rotation and alignment. Before that at 130kmph, there used to be vibration. I dont intend to do it often. But I just wanted to test the speed limit. The car was very stable at this speed.

It cost be Rs 550 (75*4 + 250) for doing the wheel balancing and alignment in Madhu's tyres on Hunsur Road. In the last few page, someone had mentioned that it cost him 700 for the same. When i went for the 10k service, I was told that they only do wheel alignment and not wheel balancing. I am not sure if that's true for all workshops. Anyway, its better to get it done by the tyre specialists.

One more point. I inquired about the high illumination bulb. But the SA started explaining about the White Streak. I interrupted him and told him, that I know about the white streak, but I was inquiring about the new bulbs. He told that they have not received any such new bulbs!

Guys, our new TDCi Titanium (alloys) will be delivered in 2nd week of jan in cochin. Considering the amount of expertise & actual user experience in this thread, I would appreciate if you guys could answer a few questions. It would help me a lot with PDI.


1) TYRES

service manager says tyres can be Apollo accelere (AA) / MRF ZV2K (MZ) / Goodyear GT3 (GG) , it all depends on the 'batch' of tyre used for that 'lot' in the plant. Anybody taken recent titanium delivery? what brand did you get ?
Also, all gurus, how will you rate AA,MZ,GG tyres (assuming correct pressure is maintained as per ford's recommendation) w.r.t :
a) tyre noise
b) dry grip
c) wet grip
c) less sidewall wear
d) best overall
Based on your ratings, I would like to decide whether to upgrade or not, when I get to know what brand it is that I have got, during my PDI.

2) PANEL GAPS

i read that the rear right panel gap is more than the rear left; is it still there on recently delivered cars ?


3) HEADLAMP UPGRADE

Please suggest as I dont want to depend entirely on 'dealers recommendation'. I dont want daylight-like heavy duty brightness, just something which will take the 'poor' stock illumination to 'normal' illumination; which wont burn the reflectors or my pocket.

I do not have any dedicated ownership thread hence...

Am just back from a trip of ~1000kms. Got my scheduled 2nd service done as well along with renewal of insurance.

The Car is a joy to drive. I managed to do a 300+kms drive in under 5 hours despite multiple diversions & a stop. No exaggeration. I was doing over 3,000revs in 5th whenever the roads were good.

Got a FE of 17kmpl through the entire drive.

The ride is good & flattens out uneven surfaces (not potholes/ruts/ditches)

I was doing 120kmph+ at places where the top surface was worn out & save for tire noise, the Car was rock solid & exhibited confidence.

The spacious boot ( a relative term for a hatch) is very useful & proved its worth.

I almost love everything about this Car and am completely satisfied with it. A full year and 11,000+ kms later.

Insurance renewal from Bajaj Allianz costed Rs. 12,110 & 2nd service expense with one wiper change costed Rs. 1,662.

Congratulations, I'm neither an expert, nor a figo owner, but thought I can share my inputs with you as well.

Tyres - If anything, Apollo acelere's will be better than MRF and Goodyear. If you frequently travel a lot on highways, invest in upgrading to a good set of tyres. If you do decide to upgrade, do it immediately after taking delivery so that you get a good buyback price for your old set of tyres. I personally feel 185 section tyres offers the best combination of ride and performance on the figo.

HL Upgrade - Again, if you frequently travel on the highways during nights, you can opt for a good set of 90/100 bulbs with relay. You can get it done from any workshop outside for around 1000 Rs. Again my suggestion would be to run it in the stock form and go for an upgrade if you feel the need. If you dont want to go for higher wattage bulbs you can get some better branded bulbs in same 55/60 wattage to improve the illumination. You can refer the automotive lighting threads in t-bhp for more information and specific pointers on this.

And finally, do your research and decide based on your needs, dont go by what the dealer recommends for you. All the best.

Best - Apollo Accelere - Silent, Looks good
OK - MRF ZV2K - Hard, Long lasting
Worst - Goodyear GT3 - Shoddy pattern, Excessive noise & steering vibes.

I use 185/65R14 BS MY01 which is going good with low noise & good grip overall. You can eliminate the underbody scraping issue as well. FE has not decreased (19-21 kmpl). Steering effort is marginally more compared to stock tyres. Other option is 175/70R14 (OE for i20) which will increase the GC but will not affect FE & steering effort. I will be changing to 175/70R14 next.


HEADLAMP UPGRADE

Try Philips 60/55 ExtremeVision from an accessory shop (Rs 1000 +)

I guess you get Foglamps as STD fitment. You can upgrade the foglamp bulbs also to Extremevision.

I have Osram Nightbreaker in my Figo. Has better light quality but don't expect miracles.

Never even think of tampering the wiring on a new Ford. Better to wait till 10K service because usually issues start cropping up by then.

Had my first warranty replacement. On Friday, suddenly a thak, thak noise started from the front. On Saturday took the vehicle to Chennai Ford , Ambattur. The problem was with the suspension link and was changed free of cost. The SA also arrested a minor rattle from the door panel by replacing the side foam pad. The charge was Rs.146 for this.The service experience was very good.

Did a little trip on the Figo. Impressive mileage of 21 overall with some 1st/2nd gear driving & 140 kmph stretches at times.
