Either underbody anti-rust treatment or some treatment on the body which provides protection from minor scratches (I don't believe), bird droppings etc. Anti rust treatment is for underbody and cavities where water can accumulate (like under the rubber beading inside the door panels). You must have noticed lots of old cars which start getting rusted around the trims of door panels..these are very dangerous and cannot be treated since the corrosion starts from the inside due to water collecting in the inside. At least, that is the theory;-} How far the anti-rust treatment will actually help, is anybody's guess, since you cannot peek inside..do you? In absense of any conclusive evidence, I am inclined to believe those guys (not the salesman, but the onsite Opulent representative Mr. Premkumar, middle-aged, gave a detailed explanation and seemed to know what he is talking about) As I have already mentioned, the paint protection plan, in theory, claims to provide protection from dried water marks, bird droppings, minor scratches (the type of scratches you get from using dry cloth for cleaning which rubs the dust particles and create swirl marks. Do not confuse this with deep gashes..this cannot be protected). However, if you are planning to do regular waxing on your own, this is not required.
Hey Sanjay, thanks for the info dude
Now here's my take,
* My 6+ yr old Ikon's underbody isn't falling apart without any fancy coating. So why do I need it? This is a "nice to have" but I don't see it as a "must have" Agreed. I suggest you ask them for a demo when next time you visit the dealer. If possible, try looking at the underside of non-coated as well as a coated vehicle on a ramp. You can see the difference and then take a decision. Particularly look at the joints of exhaust pipes etc.
* I'll have to speak to Gopal on the body polishing stuff now. What exactly are they doing-Teflon, 3M, waxoyl etc. I just thought that since it's morello (dark colour) some amount of polishing would help in keeping the shine for a long time. Chennai Ford is doing Waxoyl treatment. Basically their tie-up is with Opulent India (http://www.opulentindia.com/) which is distributing Huper-Optik sunfilm (German) and Waxoyl (Switzerland). You can find all details on this website. |
Happy to help....or Confuse??
My comments in bold.
Disclaimer: Am no expert at all these. Have done my research thru various sources, and using common sense to come at a conclusion. Strictly my opinion - to be taken with a lot of caution.
Gilead/Kiku,
Confusion Galore!
This Gopal guy at CF simply talks out of his hat - I think he is the accessories specialist there. Today was not able to recognize him - he has shaved his head.
When he was showing me the different shades for the Huper-Optik sunfilm, I asked him about the legality of very dark shades - he immediately responded that they are using those shades only which are legally allowed. But within some minutes Premkumar from Opulent joined the discussion and told that shades with 50% and above visibility are only legal as per Motor Vehicles act. So there you know - Gopal - shooting off his mouth.
Coming back to Waxoyl..
Gilead, in the 5250/- pack Waxoyl under-body treatment is included - not body, i.e., the exterior painted surface..at least in my case. I can clearly see that. If you open the bonnet, look for signs of dark brownish-back sprays on the insides (left of the coolant etc)..when the spray is done from the bottom, some amount will come into the gaps/crack from the underside..this way I was assured that indeed some under-body spraying was done. Also, if you put your hand under the chasis, some thick paste will stick to fingers (not sure in you case if it may ave dried up of not)..I accidentaly did during the pooja time at delivery..it was not going away even after washing thru soap/water.
The other waxoyl treatment, as mentioned earlier are:
1. Cavity Protection 2. Paint protection 3. Motorcare. All these can be taken together (with some discount) or separately.
There is no such thing as "body protection" technically, but maybe, if all these 3+underbody is taken together, they are referring to it like this.
Have left the paper on which individual breakup was given to me for each of these at the dealer. Will get you the details tommorow. BTW, Premkumar's number is 94441-58233. Why don't you guys separately call him and take the costings. I will also find out from him separately and then let's compare to ascertain the authenticity.
