Yup even mine was in city completely through hellish traffic.

I was considering the i20 to replace the ageing Lancer but seeing FE of 11-12kmpl and very similar performance to the Lancer, decided to keep the old lady itself.

The Lancer gives me 10-10.5kmpl in city even after 10years.

Here's what's been happening. This was about two weeks back.



I was away for a week, but the car itself has been away from me for almost a month Being used as the office runabout for a while now, but anyway I had a long list of niggling issues for which the car went in for service last week, and I haven't seen it since I got back. Will check it out tomorrow, and then get back with an update on what the list of problems was, what's been fixed, and what's not.

Alright so here's the long overdue update.

The odo reads 61xx km now. FE is steady at about 12kmpl. There were several issues which were the cause behind my sending the car in.

Horn : Relay's already there. Got a low tone horn fitted. Sounds fine now, a little Innova'ish. This was the only thing I had to pay for, around Rs.380 (including 100 for labour)

Steering rattle : Off and on. Now fixed. Steering column not replaced, as heard in some other threads.

Passenger seat rattle : Minimized. Not entirely gone.

Auto locking : Enabled @ 40 kmph. Ignorant service advisor kept refusing, saying nothing of the sort exists, I blasted him on the phone and he went running to his techie, who got it enabled in a couple of minutes.

I suspect, as a result of this computer-based fiddling, that something's gone wrong in my info display. Earlier I'm pretty sure the trip meters used to read out in kilometres. Now they read out in miles !! What the hell ?!?!?! Anyway because I only had the car for five minutes to check everything, I haven't actually figured out whether only the units are displayed as "miles" or the numbers themselves are actually in miles. Going to have to get this fixed on my next trip. Extremely pissing off.

Steering off-centre : This had started again. Now fixed.

Hissing sound : Strange hissing sound coming from bottom right of the car. Now fixed. Cause unknown, because my driver's incompetent and can't follow instructions properly.

Rear speakers : I thought they were wired incorrectly so asked them to check it. Now I've reached the conclusion that they're simply rubbish, thats all.

Now a new problem has surfaced. Turning lock-to-lock with the brake pressed, 1 out of 5 times, a strange groaning sound is heard from the front wheels. The tyres are not interfering with the wheel well. Again, because I wasn't present at the service station, my driver had no choice but to give up even after arguing for an hour over the issue that the sound wasn't there. The service advisor blames it on my rims. So the next time I'm just going to take the car in myself, and am fully prepared to take these fellows apart if they give me this rubbish.

There is a option to switch between Kms & Miles. It is somewhere in the setup for Trip Meter.

In the MID display area once you hit the set button and hold on to it for a couple of seconds you will have the option to change the units back to km from miles as well as choose to display the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit and set date and time if desired.

Once you hit and hold set the display will start blinking. Press set once briefly to move from one field to the next and use the up and down arrow buttons placed below the set button to set the desired value in the selected field.

Did the 10000 km service last week. Everything routine, nothing to fix really except for one rattle which was very loud and surfaced only if the car dipped into a big crater or something like that. That's gone. And the door levers (inside) had to be lubricated (all, or some reason) because they used to creak shamelessly on every pull. Car's running beautifully now. I have one little job left to be executed i.e. the ECU cover. Moment I get that, I'll provide an update with pictures on this thread.

So I sent my car in for a couple of things today. First was the ECU cover...





The install is not done very well, but I think it'll do the job. FINALLY one thing off my checklist.

Second, this rubber strip lining the bottom corners of the front windshield was stolen from my car about a month back. Got it replaced, and was charged Rs. 42 including labour and taxes. Relief that both these things were done just before monsoon comes down hard on us.



Now for the annoying bloody part.

Some jackass at Hyundai decided to stick some sticker on the inside of my windshield, and then yanked it off, taking along a patch of my 3M CR70 sunfilm along with it !! Now the patch looks simply horrid on my front windshield. I noticed this only when the car was brought back by my driver (he's another dodo) so I made a couple of calls immediately and was pretty pissed off about the whole thing. I'm now assured over the phone that the whole reinstallation will be done by them. They've been nice enough about this, I hope they stick by their word. I've been dealing with one of these gentlemen since my Accent days - which makes it 10 years now - so I doubt there will be any hiccup in the process. Fingers crossed. Pictures attached below.





On a more general level, I'm not too happy with how this car's aging. It's at 10,315 km now, driven a lot. The silver plate on the steering is now beginning to wear off on the edges. It's not noticeable to the common man, but then I'm quite obsessive about my car so it's NOT cool. Also, the "leather" around the chrome cap sitting atop the gear shifter is beginning to wear off. Again, hardly noticeable, but it's bothering me. Bothering me enough to have them changed at the 20,000 km service. Anyone else having the same problem?

Anyway, got the front sunfilm reinstalled FOC today. HMP has a couple of guys I'd really recommend when it comes to getting things done, the customer care is quite good.

What a coincidence, the same guys who reinstalled the entire sunfilm on the Beemer showed up for this job as well. Didn't recognize them initially till he walked up with a 32-tooth grin and said "Saab woh BMW aapka hi tha na?" I was relieved, atleast he'll do a good job, knowing I'll scan every square inch of the glass after his work's done like I did with the other car.





Car stands at 11,905 km. No complaints, except that trim on the steering (pic attached in my previous post) is slowly and steadily growing.

most impressive part is the sunfilm installation

the thing I hate the most about service advisors is they are total noobs!

they don't even know about the equipment they have!

I had to point them to the g-scan tool(which they didn't know anything about)
and when the SA wondered where to connect it, I was literally laughing!

I think they just installed the urethane bush in your steering assembly!

SA here refuses to acknowledged the existence of anything like that!! Its seriously a pain to deal with such ppl!

At least over there Hyundai employs knowledgeable ppl!

I've had my fair share of issues, my friend. They vehemently denied the existence of 40 kmph auto-lock till I lost my cool over the phone. Suddenly in two minutes they discovered a new feature in their product.

I just work my way around it. Temperature 20-22, fan speed modulated between 2 and 4.

Really? I was just reporting my good experiences (I love this car, yes, even more than the 3) along with some of the crap I've had to wade through, that's all. For real tips and tricks, you should have a look at wildon's thread.

I've done 130-140 with reasonable confidence. Beyond that it will let you know that EPS wasn't such a good idea. Trust me, stay between 100-120 and you'll have a makkhan-smooth ride, you'll get to where you're going well on time, and will also smile with the FE.
