You have helped a lot of BHPians by this post and have shown us a new avenue.

Good luck, and Greetings for the New Year.

Thank you and happy new year to you too.

Dear sbiswas, i too have a Hyundai i10 A/T, can you please guide me on the transaxle oil change in automatic car. What is the interval for change. My car will complete three years in March 2014 and has done 12000km on ODO. I am hearing different versions from different ASS centres of Hyundai.

One version says change it at 40000km, the other says change it after 3 years irrespective of mileage.

Pls suggest and help if you have gone through this process.

i10 AT is filled with ATF SP-III which is good for about 150,000 kms (aka eternity ) under normal driving conditions. The owner's manual says to inspect it at every 10,000 kms. However, it also says to replace it every 40,000 kms under 'severe usage conditions'. As per Hyundai manual, the 'severe usage conditions' are defined as:

A: Repeated short distance driving
C: Driving in dusty, rough roads
D: Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in very cold weather
E: Driving in sandy areas
F: More than 50% driving in heavy traffic during hot weather above 32 degree C (90 deg F)
G: Driving in mountainous areas
H: Towing a trailer
I: Driving for patrol car, taxi, commercial car or vehicle towing
J: Driving in very cold weather

I would say check the ATF at 40,000 - 50,000 kms for signs of darkness and take a call accordingly.

My apologies for the late reply.

I also got myself this silicone cover for the new flip-key case. It is of excellent quality and protects the soft rubber buttons on the flip-key from wear & tear. Any one using flip-keys, I would strongly recommend to get one of these so that you don't have to go through the same troubles as I did. It is about 350/- on ebay and ships free to India
