How much does Mobil 1 cost? I assume ~4K or so? Have you also been putting in the System G thing?

So you are happy and relieved as no more THUD sound?
And also you are happy that @Bhavna is doing good job for you and you are one of
their satisfied customer now !
Is that Mobil1 is suggested by them or its your preferance?

I hope this new spring does not dilute the fantastic road feel we get through the steering wheel. I would rather live with the thud than lose the road feedback.

I am yet to drive her. She is standing in the parking lot right now, but I don't have the courage or the energy to drive her around in Mumbai rush hour traffic

Rest Gilly Rest!
The spring is not here to 'damp' the driving experience, it's here, just to 'damp' the thud

Yes, I have been using System G, and yes, my service centre says Mobil1 will be allowed without a problem. They know a car enthusiast when they see one, and they even said I should experience with a K&N filter to further improve the 'whoosh' experience!

K&N , That is interesting. I would like to get a K&N into my ZXI. Would it make sense to fit one if the car is mainly used for only city driving?

Heheh, I dunno. I might not go the K&N way, but I might make some mods soon (after the warranty)
My car is back, I drove it, redlined it, pointed and shooted, and came back smiling like a kid.
She's driving like a dream (and drinking petrol like a fish)
The noise from the column is almost gone, and the slight rattle from down is still there, but the alarming thud is now gone.
They did the wheel alignment today, and just for kicks (literally) I stood on the pedal today at 110 with my hands on the wheel (not tight, though)
The car stopped without drama and the wheel didn't need any coaxing. ABS kicked in (or not, maybe) but I didn't know since the music was at a slightly higher volume than normal today (i was in the mood for extremes today, LOL)
Anyway, coming back to the thick of it, the steering issue is solved, so is the slightly wobbly steering.
Waiting for longer drives (tomorrow ;-) to rave more about the 'cargasms.'
3745 km, and the miles are slowly drying up since I am now busy with post graduation. Rest assured, though, that I shall be keeping this thread abreast with my 'achievements' regularly!

Cheers guys!

Happy for you Frank and also the cargasms to come!

Are you sure that this spring needs to be replaced in the S to get rid of the noise!? Spoke to my SA about this and he had no clue about the spring!

Not many know about this spring, since it was/is in trial testing stage.
The noise is still there, but muted, and of a slightly different nature. It's not like before though, and the vibration of the steering hitting a rut is now almost gone.
Mind you, I am using the word almost, because I have driven her only about 10 km today after the fix and I didn't notice the noise after restoring my tyres to 26 psi (people at A.S.S. had made it 36)

Great! Can you find out from Bhavna if Ford plans a recall of some sort?

Anachronix: Where do you get your car serviced? MPL or Chennai?

Have been getting it serviced at MPL Ford! I am thinking I will move to Chennai Ford.

My previous car was maintained at Chennai Ford and their SAs are more technically sound than MPL folks!

Can you send me the contact details of your favorite SAs at both MPL and Chennai? I bought the car at MPL, but I am thinking of getting it serviced at Chennai as it's just 5 mins away from my place. Is there a chance of getting second class treatment at Chennai just 'cos I did not buy the car from them?

Servicing a car is also a income for the dealer, so, imo Chennai Ford should be happy to give you their service.
Incase they show any displeasure, you can then notify this to FORD as it is common practise that car's bought from one place can be serviced at any place as per the owners convenience. No dealer can deny the service to anyone irrespective where he come from or where did he buy the car etc.

I just now went through this thread as I was looking at experiences of Ford Petrol owners and I can say WOW ! what a lucid style of detailing, Frank you are a good writer.
but as I read about the problem surfacing and then spring being changed and the problem coming again, I wish you all the best for it.
guys like you who really take good care of your cars are an example !
btw, did you put in Mobil 1 ?
