Spotted a new Jazz pass by in my neighborhood last evening. It sure does look grand and spacious. Not sure if it was a test mule.

After complaining for months, 2 services and clutch bleeds, the master cylinder and associated parts were replaced today. My car has run 30K kms. The issue was not big for me, but some other drivers who tend to ride the clutch and hold it long, had the sticky feeling.

After detailed checks at the service center, the clutch never released. I had to wriggle a bit to get the entire unit replaced under extended warranty. The quoted post above dated Oct 2012 helped me to document this issue and pursue the warranty claim.

I was initially quoted about 6K plus labor for the replacement. But took an entire day to fix. For those who claimed Honda clutches last a life time, maybe not anymore.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Honda Jazz

Hello,

I have finalized a deal for Nov'11 Honda Jazz. (63 K run).
The car was not serviced in recent times, and when I checked with Honda mechanic, he said that the car is due for 'Big Service'.

Any idea, how much this will cost? And what parts should I get checked / replaced?

Car seems to be in good working condition in all aspects. Though I am finding pick up a bit sluggish compared to my Swift petrol. I have got air filter replaced.

Any suggestions will be great.

Thanks.

The iVTEC is like that, you will get good torque/power only over 1.5K rpm and the power delivery is quite linear. Loves to be revved though, so,don't be shy with the gas pedal

63K in about 2.5 years is quite an high usage for a petrol car.

I will surely observe that in my rides ahead. And during test ride I took it to 165 kmph and it still had in it to go further. (Although post 155-160 kmph it wasn't very stable)

Yes. It has run quite a lot. But overall it appealed me. Run smooth, well kept car. Hope it doesn't prove me wrong in future. Fingers crossed.

The big service, or what honda calls - "major service" has to be carried out at specific kilometer readings of the ODO. The only difference between a minor and major service is that a minor service costs something to the tune of 1000Rs(only service charge) whereas a major service would cost 1500(only service charge). Some Honda dealers have a habit of fleecing the customers with unnecessary jobs like engine de-carb,radiator flush, engine oil flush,ac cleaning, disinfection, etc. Just follow the user manual and stay away from these gimmicks and no service would cost more than INR 4k .
I have taken my Jazz to 160 once or twice but i found it to be very stable,no vibrations on steering as well as on the car overall. Suggest you to get balancing and alignment done. If your at that get your brake pads also checked and see if the car brakes in a straight line. Happy Jazzing.

Happy Jazzing.
Thank you Smarth. It surely clarifies some of my doubts.
Between, one small doubt I still am having is about pick-up of car. I have owned it for just 3 days now and have driven around 350 kms. Pick-up is somehow now up to the mark
My question is, is pick-up comparatively low on Jazz?

I will be getting it checked during service within next couple of weeks. But still would like to know your experience.

The 1.2L motor doing duty in the Jazz is a bit sluggish at lower RPMs. We have a WagonR(older 1.1L engine) and a Jazz with us and the difference is quite visible. Its only after 2k RPM that you start getting some power out of it. And above 3k RPM it just waits to be gunned. So in short, below 2k RPM there is very little torque, so low pick-up.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Honda Jazz

Jazz has to be revved past 2K mark to get the juice out of the stingy engine. My favorite is 5.5-6K in 2nd gear when I get an open road. I avoid as much as possible to extract the 14+ km/l FE I receive each fill.

I have driven the 1.5L in Thailand and its a different beast.

My dial is showing 14 +- 0.2 kmpl. Is that the exact mileage I would derive or do I have to monitor?

And sure, 1.5 must be feeling like a powerhouse under the hood.

I would not rely on the display for accurate FE reading. But I believe its optimistic by about half to one km. So if you meter shows 14, actual would be around 13-13.5km/litre. My personal experience.

The 1.5L also needs some coaxing on lower gears to get into business, but feels way better than the 1.2.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Honda Jazz

Hello guys,

As I posted earlier, I got a pre-owned Jazz X in very good condition. SO far I have done 1300 kms on it. Effective mileage that I am achieving in city and highway both is quite low. (just 12.5-13 kmpl)
Soon I will be getting it serviced. What things should I ensure to improve it?
Also when I apply breaks urgently at higher speeds, break pedal gives a feedback (noticable vibration). It is normal or is there something I need to get checked?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that is the ABS kicking in. It feels like a pulsating movement than vibration. I have experienced it before under a sudden braking situation and do not wish to anymore.

13 kmpl on highway sounds way too low. It has never gone below 18 on the highway for me. There is too much variation in the city mileage, depending upon the traffic conditions on average. In bumper-to-bumper traffic, with average speed ~6-8 kmph (Bangalore! ), it used to be about 11 kmpl for me.
