NK1969@ Good to hear that your problem has been rectified. It seems to me most of us are and having this bug bugging us. The noise the get louder as we delay the problem, happened in my case. Where after some research came to the conclusion of the faulty blower bracket. Went straight to the dealer with my diagnosis, insisted them to check and in the end problem was solved.

Thanks for those enlighting posts. Its really worth going thru those posts. IMO, every driver should know the basics of the car to handle any unexpected breakdowns.

netchef:
Its because of your continued effort, this thread is still alive and rocking.

Needless to say, I am a big fan of Skoda's build and its cars. But, I am not sure if it is worth the risk to take the plunge.
sriram:
For me, its worth taking the risk. Already Skoda is trying to localize the spares. So I hope the spare parts will cost less in the future.

When I drive my Fabia, most of the occasions I switch off the music system and enjoy the silence in the cabin. No noise intrudes the cabin (excepting the tyre & engine. mine is a TDI )

Congrats for the Ton

Hey everyone,

Brilliant job with all the contributions, photos, travelogues, know-your-car educative posts and what have you. Believe it or not this thread just gets better and bigger with no dearth of knowledge on the Fabia, resultant being the ultimate one-stop shop for a complete online Fabia overhaul.

Skykrish: Hearty congratulations and best wishes to your wife and you on your new bundle of joy.. I hope and wish for you to be prepared to enjoy your best days ahead..

VKJ: Sorry about the call today morning. Airtel's mobile spectrum in the vicinity seems to have a mind and it's own free will. Which is why our call dropped and I couldn't connect back immediately. I hope you atleast got to read my txt.. Speak to you soon and yeah, crack a good deal on the insurance renewal. Don't rush in with anyone until you've seen the numbers you like.

Fair Issac: Great road trip and nice green mangoes. Hope you didn't have a bit on them, kaccha.. Grab some real ripe ones and they taste much better, taken . Gimme a call when you head out next time and I'll join you if I can [if it isn't getting crowded]

Mr. Jeeves: Man doing the top job.. General, as called by some. Passionate biker, mad englishman writer and devlish chef. It's fantastic how you've managed to start a thread, not abandon it and infact, continuing to contributing in it and watching it grow. Great stuff and kudos.. But yeah, now is when it really starts.. So superbike or not [Oh no! Don't get me wrong but I truly prefer you get your SBK soon so I can snap some, and yeah, steal a posture or two on it, when you aren't looking], you've got to continue the contributing and housekeeping job on this one

Invinsible: You're truly that.. Invinsible. With your excellent know-your-car articles.. Keep them coming and we earthly folks will someday get to know as much as we can about the steeds we own, much like you..

Naikpranav: Great cam and ditto photos.. You've got the eye for great captures.. Fish eye, lets say . Excellent spots and great trips, to say the least.. Keep exploring.. Your fab must already be thinking it's a Land Rover in Fabia clothing... Enjoy.

Bangy Fabia Lodge: Is there a meet happening this Sunday? I know Vijay is taking his Fab to the SC, so are we skipping this week and organising one for next? Please keep me posted over the weekend, through phone.

First at the Chakkan plant

True. Not just the parts but the Fabia is going to have a reduced price too, soon. It is the first car that goes through the production line at the new VW plant in Chakkan [near Pune].

I only hope the quality will be very close to the imported ones pressed into our cars. Imagine if the difference in quality to be enormous and how it would look if we changed, say, the outside RVM.. might look weird?

Pst: the VW Polo will be the first VW hatchback to be rolled out from the same new plant. Expect excellent interiors with 1.2 and 1.6 ltr engines.. Word is that the chassis will be the same as the Fabia... and prices starting from 5.5-6L

Thanks, i think I know who you're talking about, will PM you soon.
PM me about what you shortlist, (DSLRs use different lenses for zooming more or less, so you might not get a all-in-one solution with it) or if you have any queries, but a word of advice, the best VFM is in the DSLRs, even if they are very expensive, its something like the Fabia.

sorry to gate crash so late into the 100th page. but first things first. 100 Pages..and still going so strong and vibrant like a brand new post, always on the front page of the forum, except for very few occasions. This shows the spirit and camaraderie of the fabiosis under the CC (command & control) of General Netchef aka 'william MADSWORTH' who is working overtime in his english lab.

To be frank, this thread was the turning point in my decision to buy fabia and my decision has been correct. Of course, there were some minor hiccups in the form of after sales, but I guess I can tolerate some amount of negatives. The thread has been so informative for a casual car user like me and now, I feel like knowing something about automobiles. Moreover, this thread is not just about the car alone. it is also about the man and machine. I'm yet to find a thread like ours which mixes human and mechanical elements in a subtle way, which i feel is the success of this thread. Thanks to the photographers, poets, writers, scientists, mango thieves etc etc. in here, I'm sure this would hit 200 pages in no time.

woke up yesterday morning to find that my rear left tyre was in flat shape. everything was fine till thursday night when i checked the tyres as I do my daily inspection. After changing the spare tyre, i took the flat tyre to a new age tyre shop and aftre almost 30 mts of head scratching by the repair guy, we found out that the culprit was a very small hole (almost microscopic, if you can) on the inner side wall. I consulted shykrish and he told me to ask the dealer for replacement under warranty. So i promptly took the deflated tyre to the dealer on the hope that i can get rid of the matador and raging bulls within. But, he said that only the tyres which gets deflated due to bubble formation would be replaced under warranty. sighh..so cruel.

Thereafter, I showed them the problem with the control of the right rear window as i had mentioned earlier and found the reason to be the faulty switch, which they promised that they would replace by coming thursday since the switch was out of stock and has to be ordered. Fine I said, now came the blower issue. I asked the service head to take the car for a drive and after sometime, as we hit the rough patches, the sound started. At first, it was said that the sound was due to the loosening of seats while they put on the new seat covers. Finally, after much debate, he agreed that the sound was infact coming from the blower and would tighten them as 1st step. If tightening can kill the sound, there is no need for replacement. I said I would go along with it and so, next thursday, I might be dropping in my car for the works. On my way back, i dropped in at the tyr shop and got the tyre fixed. Guys, the mechanic at tyre shop mentioned that since the hole is at the side wall, there are chances for problem, say after 7 months or so. Can anyone throw some light into this?

As we move on, I appeal to missing fabiosis to return and guys, thanks for bearing with my idiotic questions and blabbers.

Agree with you, it's the input from everyone here and having some active members it's going strong. I guess 200 pages should reach before this year end if we keep thread always on 1st page of the this section.

Sorry to hear about it. What tyres are you having ? are they the "Matador" tyres. They aren't that great tyres, though the thread wear is good but they do get noisy a lot. I have driven 28500 on them and I can feel that the thread wear is better but it's loosing on the road grip and braking now. I suppose they are getting slightly harder. Thinking of getting it replaced at 35000kms. I think that's the best they could take.
I had a bubble in my tyre at around 14000kms or so on the front left side. Took it to the dealer and asked for replacement and they promptly did, just that tyres are under depreciating value so had to pay 30% difference amount around Rs.1100 or so.

Haven't heard of the window problem, I guess small niggling problems are part of every car one buys. Last night while driving back home I noticed some noise coming from my driving seat. Everytime it goes in a bump or uneven road there is a metal noise coming from below. I supose could be a lose bolt or it's the frame giving up.
The blower noise will not go just by tightening it. It was done on my car too during the 1st service but reappeared again in a weeks time and then it was hard for me to remove the time and get it rectified again. So when I gave for 2nd service it was at it's loudest and insisted them to change it. Insist on changing it. It's a fualty part and warranty doesn't just mean fixing the faulty part but also means replacing it. Tell them you have had enough of that noise and you need a replacement. No compromise on that.
And tyre shop guy was right. The side wall act as a small suspension for tyres. Every shock or bump is absorbed due to sidewalls. After the sidewalls take the tension they then pass the shock from the bump to the shock absorber. But intially it's the tyre which takes the beating. Getting the sidewall fixed will definitely won't last for a long time. I would suggest you keep the tyre as the spare one and can get it replace in the future.

As we move on, I appeal to missing fabiosis to return and guys, thanks for bearing with my idiotic questions and blabbers.

MY ANSWER in BOLD. How many fabiosis have been or are there so far. Any count of this?

I too paid for Rs.51 or so for my right brake light. If they ask 150 tell them Why in other cities they are charging just 51.
Some of the dealer's have made a habit of taking the customer for a ride. It's coz of these dealers Skoda's name is getting bruised badly. It's high time they wake up and take active interest in knowing their dealer's practice.

Service report

Good Morning to you all gents, on a sunny Sunday.

I left early Yesterday to reach the service centre at 9. As I took the car out of my parking slot, the steering noise was gone. I got the feeling that it will ditch me at the wrong time. Luckily as I parked in the SC and checked for the noise, it was at it's loudest best, phew. They worked the whole day on it which mostly included lubrication all different parts. But in the end work was done satisfactorily.

For the engine vibration, they only did a software check as it was not reproducible.

AC blower Most of the time we were with the manager and he inspected our cars himself. We sat in VKJ's car first. The dashboard ditched him, we could not hear anything. In my car it was a bit too loud. He insisted on getting the blower replaced. But for that I have to leave the car for one day.

We got a lot Gyan from the manager, while we drank tea after tea. I also had with me Konkam drink (a sweet drink made from the extract of Konkam fruit found in Konkan region) . It seemed he had worked with Skoda India too for sometime. We increased our knowledge of ABS, MSR, ASR, ESP and other safety equippments. Most of which we don't find in our cars even after shelling out big numbers. A Shame beacuse the European counterparts are well euipped. The Indian automobile industry (policy) will have to undergo a sea of change before we can enjoy the basic level of comfort. He also showed a new blower and explained the cause of noise.

Next, I have to find time to get the dashboard problem fixed.

I also faced the same problem though on the drivers power window. I was told that the whole panel would needs to be changed as its quite normal if some water while washing spills over the power window button!
The price of the panel was around Rs. 3000. After checking the problem was of loose wire rather than a faulty panel.

I'm planning to take my car to the service center tomorrow. yesterday evening, I noticed that the rear right window would not roll back up if operated from the driver side. it does roll down properly while operated from front. however, if operated from the rear right controls, the window works normally.

Eurekaaa..eurekkaaa..I did manage to fish out the invoices and delivery notes with date to prove my baby's 'birth date'[/quote]

That small black cap costs Rs. 150? I think they would have told you "one fifty" (one rupee fifty paise).
