Today the car's AC panel stopped working altogether. You couldn't control the temperature or blower or anything. Only the hazard light switch was working. Although one could control everything via the touchscreen menu.
Sorry to say but you are not the chosen one! I am there with you My FIL bought a brand new GLE 450D about a month ago and the second day it had a similar problem. The rear AC was blowing only hot air and couldn't be controlled. The car was taken to the workshop and was received after a week or so. Currently the car makes an awkward noise outside whenever AC is on. It is too loud as if it is revving high. I have had bad experience with Mercedes in the past and that's why will never be their customer. On the other hand I am happy with my 6GT for now. Hope they sort out your problem as soon as possible. Cheers!

Well the car came back today morning - yet to check it out as I had already left for work. Apparently there was one cable that was "crimped" while fitment, which caused a short circuit somewhere which resulted in the switches not working. Not sure what their diagnosis for the comfort entry and exit system resetting is. They although did update the software yet again for the head unit as well as the rear screens and the seats. Let's hope all is sorted now.

Since you mentioned - our car also is quite loud from outside when the AC is working - somehow never noticed this loudness in the 6GT. Glad you are enjoying your GT I strongly believe BMW has probably shot itself in the foot by discontinuing it. The car is perfect in every sense (barring how it looks)

I think it's on most new cars, our X7 is very loud which was not the case before with X5. Maybe something to do with how Adblue is burnt at lower speeds. Will have to find out the difference with AC on and off.

Ahh, at the factory or have you got some other work done recently?

Ohh this happened at the factory itself. I checked with the dealership - and they were firm that this error is definitely at the factory.

Forgot to add this - my 6GT is a BS6 vehicle using AdBlue - but it doesn't make such loud noises.

On a different note - how has been your experience with the AdBlue consumption? The GT has done 108k kms so far with one AdBlue top up around 53k and after that top up it still shows 50% left. BMW service guys (local) told me that since you are using the car on the highway, the consumption would be much lesser - but that is not the case with the GLS as it needs the top up already in 15k kms. Both cars are running on the same roads and have more or less the same usage. . What am I missing here?

If I recollect, we had to fill around 2 or 3 litres at first service/ mileage 10 K.

Maybe a different tune or twin tubos on 40-D vs 30-D?

Re: My Mercedes-Benz GLS 450D Review | Mini Bus comes home

Congratulations Samyak on your GLS. We have an A class and a 5 series Touring and I can completely vouch for the difference in headlights between them.
Regarding the memory seats, I have not faced anything similar to yours. I think it must be something wrong with the software and hopefully will be sorted out soon!

Re: My Mercedes-Benz GLS 450D Review | Mini Bus comes home

Hi Samayak,

Did the software update fix the easy entry/exit feature?
Mine works fine. (I toggled it on in my profile).
Assumption: The driver seat is not already positioned all the way back.

Regarding memory seat

This has occurred twice in the past 6 months of my ownership. Same happens with my XC-60 too.
I found an explanation online for this, where the seats reset to a reference position before moving to the saved position for calibration. This does not happen consistently though.

though.
Well it looks like the software update didn't really help here. Though the toggle showed on yesterday - it didn't work yet again. Earlier it would toggle off of its own and needless to say wouldn't work.
Regarding the memory seats - my 6GT has never done this. It simply glides to where it is supposed to without going to any reference position.

On a different note - I had mentioned about some rattling noise coming over bumps earlier. Inspite of them trying to fix it - it didn't happen. They ended up changing the suspension altogether. And the problem was fixed.

I really wonder what's wrong with Mercedes these days. A very close friend who bought an S class just days after me faced a very peculiar problem. With the keys inside, the door handles retreated in the car. The car was unlocked but the door handles couldn't be pulled. We tried using the app to "unlock" the car so that the handles would pop out - we were unable to do that as well. The app showed that the car is unlocked and the rear passenger door is open (which wasn't). All we could then do was literally try to pry the handle out from that particular door - and the moment we were able to pull the handle out and open the door - all the handles popped out. It was quite scary to be honest as we both have young kids and we started wondering what would we have done had this happened with any of the kids inside.

Re: My Mercedes-Benz GLS 450D Review | Mini Bus comes home

Ask your friend to contact the dealership for a demo. Mercedes-Benz has a fail-safe mechanism for this, similar to Tesla door handles, no tools needed.

My point is - the door handles shouldn't have retracted when the car is unlocked but specially when the key is inside the car. We eventually did manage to open the door - but to start with - this should not have happened in the first place!

Yes, I concur. However, with software-defined systems, technical issues are likely to persist. All OEMs are currently competing under the banner of innovation.
