Re: In the market for a C-SUV - My experience and why I bought the Taigun

Congratulations on your new Taigun. I recently got my hands on a Wild Cherry Red 1.5 GT TSI DSG, and she has been a hoot to drive!

I wanted to know what has been your feedback on the stock tyres? Mine have come with CEAT tyres, and at speeds above 80 KMPH (Mumbai Pune expressway, for instance), there is a lot of noise in the cabin - it almost feels like one of the windows is open (to the extent that I have checked a few times if anything was open).

Also, do you mind sharing how much did codemyvag charge for unlocking all the features mentioned?

I can totally relate to the itch which honestly had started even before I took delivery of my car!
Well, about the usefulness, for me it was more about the urge to personalize what I own and the feeling of power that it brings, and less about the actual practicality of the tweaks.
So true and thanks buddy. But if you play around with settings, the change log would be there and the service centre folks can say that you have fiddle with the software data. I mean there are less chances but this can happen. I really aching to get some of the mods done but thinking about the warranty part alone. Probably I am just overthinking about it.

You're right, but I doubt someone at the ASC would go to these lengths until something happens due to misconfiguration.
However I must say you are right to be safe than sorry; Maybe I didn't think hard enough
But then, I didn't think when I unlocked my first OnePlus on day one!

Thanks and Congrats to you too! To be honest, I haven't really noticed much tyre noise myself. There is some noise in the cabin above 100kmph, but that is more due to the wind I believe. Mine has the MRF Wanderer Ecotred tyres, so maybe that makes a difference. Coming from the Swift with stock tyres, I might not have the correct reference point for it though..

drcodemyvag quoted me ₹7500 for the modifications if I remember correctly..

Thanks for this. As one of the BHPians had mentioned, it looked like my sunroof was very slightly open. I have opened it fully and closed it now, and the noise seems lower (though I have so far only gone till ~70 KM/Hr). Need to check this.

Planning to get the CEATs changed. How does it work for new tyres, is there usually any buyback offered by the tyre dealer, or these new tyres are just handed over for no cost?

Congratulations on the Taigun and here’s wishing you many, many fun filled days and miles of motoring.

You should get the CEATS changed, made a world of a difference when I ditched them and went for Michelins on my Taigun GT.

If you’ve run over 50/100 km, you won’t get much at all on the tyres. I’d recommend you stick to the CEATS till you hit the 20 -25k mark and then get Michelins.

My post on my experience

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-...vw-taigun.html (Instant satisfaction | Changed from Ceat to Michelin tyres on my VW Taigun)

I also strongly, strongly advise you to get the best quality sun films on all windows and rear and front windshield. Get Solar Shield Nano ceramics if you can. Expensive, but well worth it. They really come a long way in boosting cabin comfort. They are much better than 3Ms or Gareware.

Also, get an extra bottle of engine oil and keep it! I’ve got low engine oil warnings twice, close to 10k intervals after service.

Unlocking most features is.. not really worth it. But there are a few essential ones that are a must. I got myself an OBD Eleven device and did them myself. What I consider essential are

1) getting rid of the 80/120 chimes

2) changing air con setting to more cooling.

3) enabling ac control on HUD

4) changing steering profile to dynamic (default is comfort)

They ask for a bomb to do these, but I think 2000 is a decent amount to pay to get all of them done.

No issues with warranty, I’ve given the car for service multiple times and nothing has been said.

Thanks, and thanks for the tyre reco! I will change to Michelins once I've worn through these a bit more.

Thanks again, but wouldn't these attract cop attention? I feel the current cooling is pretty adequate after coding, especially in Bangalore weather. If I move to North, I'll check these out.

I did check the engine oil level at 2k kms and it seemed fine. Thanks for the head up, I'll keep an eye out!

I agree, although the refuel quantity is a good-to-have sometimes, but it is really helpful to have the Steering angle display especially in my tight parking. It has got a permanent place on my cluster alongside driving data, only to be sometimes swapped with the Instant economy when I want to drive efficiently.
I agree on the pricing, 2k should be the maximum sweet spot for these things. The OBD11 costed me exactly the same I would have paid for one-time coding, and I now have the device for future tweaks and to lend to friends with VWs

Great that you found out. The sunroof does introduce crazy wind noise at highway speeds if open even in the ventilation mode.

Re: In the market for a C-SUV - My experience and why I bought the Taigun

Alright, time for a quick update, and to seek some advice from fellow BHPians.

I've completed 3500km with the car. The usage is currently on the lower side, I know, but it is picking up now that my office has moved to 14+kms from my place from the earlier ~2km. Nothing much to write about the ownership at this point, apart from the fact that it's going great apart from the poor FE in Bengaluru city

Coming to my question -- I got a call today from my VW dealership (probably the service center) about a pending 'General checkup'. I was told that we are supposed to get a checkup at 1 month and then another at 6 months time, and also that not getting the checkup might affect the warranty (?!!) The rep asked me to get it done ASAP to make sure that doesn't happen, since I was already late for it. When told that I was getting to know about this right now, she said its fine but to get it done asap. When I finally asked if I can get that done in another city, she said its should be okay.

Now, the problem is that I was never told about this (apparently mandatory) checkup when I bought the car despite especially asking about those (to which I was told no, you just need to get a service at 1 year mark is all), heck, even no calls in the first 3 months apart from the ones for feedback (I atleast got like 5 different feedback calls IIRC). This has left me confused and also angry at the Dealer and SA (again!)

My question to everyone here is, is this checkup actually mandatory? It sounds more like a good-to-have and I was anyway planning to take the Taigun for a checkup around the 6 months mark (owing to the confidence with which the SA had told me that German cars don't need 1 month service). Could it be part of some new policy from VW? I read about a 'Swaagat service' or something somewhere in the forums, but didn't find anything related on the VW website so I thought it would have been for older models.
At this point, to me it sounds more like a way to make money by scaring the customer regarding their warranty, but honestly I don't want to take even a 1% chance with it. I actually don't mind some preventive maintenance but this sounds a bit fishy.

Highly appreciate any experiences or advice on this!

Re: In the market for a C-SUV - My experience and why I bought the Taigun

9 Month update and a quick review of VW's Passive TPMS -

Alright, so time for a due update on this thread.

The car has run about 5k kms by now (it's lower than what I wanted but things have been hectic for the past 6 months).

First check-up -
I got the first checkup right after I made the above post (at around the 4 months mark), and got the welcome kit and a wash complimentary.
The SA did not say anything about the delay in getting the checkup and the car was taken in without any delay or hassle.
No issues were found by the service folks, neither did I have any, apart from brakes squealing at low speed. About this I was told that it is a common VW behaviour and is only an issue if it also happens at higher speed. I did read on TBHP about this being a common issue indeed, so I simply let go.
I also asked them to install updates if any, initially the SA told me there weren't any for my car but later I got a call to ask the Valet mode password, apparently for a reset of the infotainment system. I'm not sure if the version was updated, i didn't note the previous version.
Overall they did a good job cleaning the vehicle and i have seen no Android Auto disconnection since the 'reset' (could well be a coincidence). I also enquired about a couple of accessories while I was at the service centre, primarily the OG VW horn for which I was quoted around ₹4800 which seemed a bit steep to me at the time, but now feels like a necessity and I regret holding off on it when I had the chance. Bangalore traffic (especially because the dreaming 2 wheelers and autos riding in the middle of the road simply ignore my honking more often than not)

Getting a puncture and my general experience with VW TPMS -
Among other updates, I got my first puncture (a 2-inch screw in the rear left tyre). The built in TPMS detected the puncture, but it did not give enough info and since the air leak was slow, the first time I got the error I physically checked (admittedly in my dark basement) and simply refilled the air, thinking I missed the tyre in the last manual check and refill a couple days back. Only once the warning returned after a couple of short drives and an office run, is when I could really confirm the puncture - this time I spotted the screw too. I simply changed into the stepney and drove to a nearby tyre shop.
Now, one can't blame me for being skeptical of the passive TPMS, the system had previously given me only false positives out on the highway twice by now, leading me to stop in the middle of nowhere and check pressures manually, only to find everything in line or at best, the pressure off by 2-3 PSI
On the brighter side, I ultimately turned the lemons into lemonade by getting a package deal from the tyre shop on the JK Treel TPMS and a mushroom puncture repair, along with all 4 wheels balancing. Now I can easily monitor my pressures and will be safe from any false positives!

Leaving with a parting image of the Taigun on stilts during the TPMS install. It's amazing how much brake dust accumulates on the font tyres and calipers.

You are being taken for a ride here I guess. It's 3k INR and not 4800. Don't know if they have increased price in the last 2 months, but even then an increase of Rs.1800 seems improbable. Try over the counter from Skoda. Their price is cheaper still.

Thanks! From what I understand, the Skoda accessories horn (Roots branded) is different from the official VW make horn. Maybe that is reson for this price difference?
Now, my question here would be, do these horn sound different too?
I've always loved the Polo horn, but don't really like the ones Hyundai gives in their cars.
I don't want it to end up sounding like the Creta
(No offense to the owners, just subjective opinion)
