re: My 2023 Mahindra Thar 4x4 Petrol AT Hard-Top Ownership Review | Rex | EDIT: 20,000 km up!

Lovely! Enjoy the Thar for many years to come! I too love the white color - it just looks so majestic and apart from the others (as a side note - have never liked a white colored car ever other than this one)

One thing though - when you tire of the black color of your side steps - paint them RED. i think RED side steps would really up the color quotient of the car. Also, in some auto shows i saw them putting a sort of plastic bead on the rim to give the car a dash of color (it is called a alloy protestor - but also gives the car a style statement) see below

Maybe - a red one here as well

Thanks for the wishes. Yes I initially wanted to fit red hinge steps but they were out of stock. Hence went for the black ones. But I'm cool with that since the theme of my Thar does run white & black.

What you have shown in the pic are rim protectors. They look quite nice. I will be ordering some for my friend's cars. Maybe I will try them out that time

6000 km update

6000 km update:

So its almost 4 months into ownership now and my Thar has crossed the 6000km mark. Current Odo reading:

My 2023 Mahindra Thar 4x4 Petrol AT Hard-Top Ownership Review | Rex | EDIT: 20,000 km up!-t2.jpg

My Thar has been munching miles as my daily driver and I have a commute of 60 km to work and back 6 days a week. Some of you might say I should have got the diesel, but I'm very happy with my petrol. I just love the refinement of the mStallion and shifts from the automatic gearbox are super smooth. I have been using Apple Car Play and so far its been working well. The AC is a chiller as I have mentioned before.

Coming to the ride quality, I am used to it now plus from the recent discussions we all know that that 2023 Thars have a better suspension tune. Having driven the initial Thars, I can easily say there is a noticeable difference. Still bumpy but much better than before. I will not be going for aftermarket suspension mods.

Fuel efficiency:

My 2023 Mahindra Thar 4x4 Petrol AT Hard-Top Ownership Review | Rex | EDIT: 20,000 km up!-t3.jpg

All my FE calculations been using the tank full method. I always fill up till the first auto cut off. My Thar gives me a consistent 9.8 -9.9 kmpl which I am very satisfied with. The worst figures I have seen till date was 8.3 kmpl which was when it was driven in extremely heavy traffic for a few days by my brother.

Niggles:
  • The DTE acted funny again on one occasion. It showed 128 km to empty when my tank was more than 3/4 full. It sorted itself out automatically .
  • The TPMS showed less pressure on a random tyre a couple of times. I just filled up a couple of points of air and it became ok.
  • The Hill Descent sign came up once. Switched off the car and restarted it, it was gone.

Got these valve caps with the Mahindra logo from Amazon for Rs. 250/-. I think they look quite cool:

That's about it for now. I've been loving every moment with the Thar. Every drive becomes a sense of occasion and once you get used to that presence and driving position, it gets very difficult to drive any other car. It just spoils you in a good way. I think I have the perfect two car garage in Thar and the Polo GT.

Signing off with a couple of pics:

With the Defender that I had for a weekend:

Re: My 2023 Mahindra Thar 4x4 Petrol AT Hard-Top Ownership Review | The White Hulk | EDIT: 6,000 km

The White Thar looks so beautiful.

And the mileage of 9+ for the mStallion looks very surprising.

One of my friend who has a Petrol Thar & drives in Chennai traffic every day told he was getting around 7 kmpl and worst being 5.

Hey thanks.

Yes that's how my mileage has been. Like I said, the worst I have seen is 8.3 kmpl.

Is your friend's Thar running on stock wheels and tyres?

Re: My 2023 Mahindra Thar 4x4 Petrol AT Hard-Top Ownership Review | The White Hulk | EDIT: 6,000 km

I was having a 4*4 petrol MT HT 2022 made. In a year it clocked 70000 kms and I reckon the driving it as most satisfactory. Love that machine, allways give a smile while pressing pedal. My use was 85% in Highways, 10% in City traffic and 5% off roading. The highway run gave me FE of 10 while city was giving 7.5.As I allways like to mention, the driving in a Thar gives you another level of confidence. Keep it with you, treat her well and she will ensure smile on your face.

I totally agree with what you say. It surely makes every drive special. I'm already planning a drive to Ladakh from Mumbai whenever I can make that happen.

Congrats Dippy, very well written article on your new buy. Is the Thar available so easily? I have heard that it has 4-5 months waiting period.

Touchwood your thar looks really amazing & if I ever buy one I'd want it to look exactly the same (with the mods, wheels etc). Happy & safe driving!

Thank you Well the 4x4 had less waiting when I bought it. Rather colours except white were in ready delivery. But yes demand has surged again and a friend of mine who booked my same spec has been given a 4 month waiting.

It has stock wheels but slightly upsized tyres and extra auxiliary lights & underbody protection plate.

Congratulations on White Thar, it looks handsome in that white grill. This is the color I prefer too and drooling over it since Mahindra launched it. But, unfortunately Mahindra doesn’t sell White Thar in Convertible Top. I am just waiting for them to introduce this color in CT. However, based on my interaction and non-responsiveness on behalf of Mahindra I am less hopeful of this combination being introduced. Wish you many more miles with this wonderful machine.

1:32 scale model of my Thar

A rather nice update:

I came across k10scalemodel on Instagram a few months ago. They make scale models of Indian cars via 3D printing. They also make custom models according to your spec. Recently they launched a scale model of the Thar. I got in touch with them and asked them if they can replicate my Thar in scale model form. They replied in the affirmative. I sent them detailed pics of my Thar and I'm pretty stoked with the results. Really appreciate the eye for detail. They even recreated the auxiliary lights and my custom 4x4 logo. They even gave me an acrylic case to display it. Super happy. Here are pics:
