Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story

Buying Experience:-

We made the decision to search for a new car during the lockdown. Ever since its release, I had been captivated by the Nissan Magnite due to its attractive design, excellent rating, and reasonable price. My mom happened to spot a TV advertisement for it and proposed that we explore it further. Fortunately, there happened to be a Nissan showroom conveniently situated nearby in OMR.

Excited about the opportunity to see the car up close, we made our way to the Autorelli Nissan showroom in OMR.

When we arrived at the showroom, our enthusiasm quickly faded as we discovered only a single salesperson attending to another customer. After waiting for nearly 30 minutes, we opted to independently explore the car. With no other patrons in sight, we leisurely inspected each feature and meticulously verified all the particulars.

Finally, the sales representative finished assisting the other customer and approached us. He proceeded to explain the various variants and features before discussing the pricing. However, we were informed that no discounts were available at that time due to the high demand for the Nissan Magnite.

The customer prior to our arrival was engaged in a heated argument, insisting on receiving an expedited delivery. However, the sales representative refrained from providing a definitive delivery date. When we expressed interest in the Nissan Magnite XL, we were informed that it would take approximately one month for delivery, whereas other models and automatic variants had a waiting period of three months. Satisfied with the shorter wait time, we decided to proceed with the purchase. We received a brochure and departed from the showroom.

Before departing, we took several photos of my mother alongside the car, capturing her immense admiration for it.

Upon showing the brochures to our father, a dilemma emerged. I desired an automatic transmission, while my father preferred a manual one. This disagreement led to a spirited debate, with me explaining the challenges of driving in city traffic, particularly during peak hours on OMR and near the town hall where I work. We also considered our frequent trips to Coimbatore, which often involve encountering heavy traffic. Despite my concerns, my father remained unwavering in his preference for a manual transmission.

Eventually, we reached a compromise: my father would handle city driving, and I would take charge of highway journeys. However, as events unfolded after the purchase, the outcome differed from our initial agreement. But that is a story best left for another time.

After making the payment, we eagerly awaited the delivery of the car. The dealership had set up a WhatsApp group, primarily utilized to communicate any delays in the delivery schedule. Whenever I contacted the representative, he consistently cited reasons such as a chip shortage or other unforeseen circumstances for the delay. Nevertheless, I persisted in applying pressure, and after a waiting period of 45 days, he contacted me with news that the car was ready. However, there was a catch: he would only provide the car if I agreed to purchase an additional extended warranty along with an AMC.

Recognizing this tactic as a dishonest ploy, I declined the offer and inquired about the reasoning behind it. To my surprise, the representative confessed that the car originally intended for me had been allocated to another customer who had made the payment before me. However, due to my persistent demands, he had decided to prioritize me and make the other customer wait. He suggested that I pay for the additional warranty since the customer in line would be doing the same. The representative seemed to adopt an indifferent attitude, implying that if I refused to pay, I would have to wait a bit longer while he handed the car to the other customer.

Fortunately, I had already intended to purchase the warranty, so I did not allow this situation to cause excessive stress. I agreed to the terms, ultimately opting for a Nissan Magnite Gold Care, which has proven to be incredibly beneficial thus far.

I refused to let the tactics employed to pressure me into purchasing the extended warranty stress me out too much. My primary objective was simply to acquire the car and conclude the entire process.

Finally, the awaited moment arrived, and the car was delivered. To be honest, I had been dissatisfied with the salesperson's attitude right from the beginning. Even during the delivery, their focus seemed to be on hurrying us and insisting that we leave a positive review on Google before they handed over the car. However, I didn't want to spoil the pleasant moment by engaging in an argument. All I desired was to have my car in my possession. and we had a delightful evening enjoying our new acquisition.

Extended Warranty 3Y: Rs. 12,425. 2+3 - T5Y
Nissan Magnite Gold Care: (5 years/50K KM): Rs. 16,300/-
Car: Nissan Magnite XL 1.0L Aspirant Manual.

I also added a few accessories.

No discounts were given to us as it was the top-selling car at that time. The dealer's attitude was either take it or leave it, as they had a lot of customers in queue. It's unfortunate that this kind of mentality still exists among some dealers.

Stylish Appearance: The Nissan Magnite had a sleek and attractive design both inside and outside, making it a standout choice that catches attention on the road and my eyes.

Affordability VFM Pricing: Magnite is competitively priced, making it a compelling option for those who looks for Value for money product.

Excellent Suspension: With its generous ground clearance of 205mm, the Nissan Magnite handles bumps and uneven road surfaces with ease.

Spacious Storage: Ample space in the rear, allowing for convenient storage of luggage, making it practical for various needs.

Handling: I appreciate how well the car handles both on highways and in hill stations. As a frequent visitor to hill stations, I have driven various cars, but the Nissan Magnite stands out for its exceptional handling capabilities on both highways and winding ghat roads.

Dislikes

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-seating.jpg

Seating :- In my case, the low seat height and the absence of seat adjustment were notable drawbacks when I made the purchase. Later, they introduced a new variant with that feature, but personally, I still feel that the seat is positioned a bit too low for my height of 5'11".

Poor AC:- Another issue I encountered is that the AC in the Nissan Magnite is not powerful enough to sufficiently cool the backseat area. It takes a considerable amount of time, and honestly, the AC system lacks the necessary strength to provide effective cooling, unless it's during the evening or on a rainy day when the weather is particularly favorable.

Horn: It is nearly impossible to use the horn on the highway more than a few times without your fingers going numb. The horn requires excessive force and can be very challenging to operate. Sometimes, instead of using the horn, I find myself opting to brake and wait for others to pass.

Stiff Clutch: The clutch in the Nissan Magnite is slightly firm, and when I brought up the issue, I was informed that it is how it is in all Magnite cars and considered normal.

Headlights: The stock halogen headlights are ineffective, even in city driving conditions, and particularly inadequate on highways. After realizing their poor performance on the highway and ghat roads, I quickly replaced them. Initially, I started to question my eyesight, only to later realize that the problem lay with the headlights.

Re: My Love Story With Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review

Interior storage, practicality & boot space

The car offers ample interior space, including the rear seat area.

After purchasing the car, I personally did not got a chance to sit in the rear seat. It was mostly my parents who occupied the rear seat during the initial stages. However, after a few years, I finally had the opportunity to sit in the backseat, and to my surprise, I found the seat to be incredibly comfortable. The rear seat provided a high level of comfort, and there was also a good amount of legroom and foot space available.

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-foot-space.jpg

Back seat legroom- After adjusting the driver's seat for comfort, the front seat is not pushed too far forward or too far back, making it comfortable for the driver. As a result, this is the maximum space available in the back seat.

The glove box space is much bigger.

Legroom from a different angle.

The boot space in the car is excellent, and on multiple occasions during long rides, it proved to be practical and spacious enough to accommodate all the items needed for a family trip. It provided ample room to store luggage and other belongings.

Boot space of 336 L

A much usable boot space to keep in and take out luggage easily.

With luggage.

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-stepney-.jpg

The stepney tire is for temporary use only and cannot be used for an extended period. The speed limit for this type of tire usage is 80, as clearly marked on the tire itself.

Fuel Efficiency

In the city, I usually achieve a mileage of around 11 km/l to 13 km/l.

On the highway, the mileage improves to approximately 15 km/l to 17 km/l.

However, due to the fantastic performance of the vehicle on highways, it's challenging for me to maintain speeds below 90 or 80 km/h, resulting in a highway mileage of around 16 km/l on average. Maybe if I maintain a speed of 80 kmph, I can definitely extract 19-20 kmpl for sure.

Re: My Love Story With Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review

Number of kms at the time of writing your review - 17525 KM

Usage pattern

Most of my rides involve highways and ghat roads. I typically visit Yercaud once a month and have a monthly city ride of around 500 km.

Since I have a few other vehicles, the usage is mixed. For some months, I use the Nissan Magnite, while for other times, I opt for the Dominar for weekend-long trips. The choice depends mostly on my mood and preference.

However, the typical pattern for this car is a monthly city ride of 500 km and a 1000 km trip on the highway.

Air conditioner cooling & effectiveness

One thing that I really dislike about this car is the insufficient cooling during long rides on the highway, especially for the rear seat passengers.

It often requires sacrificing the comfort of the front seat occupants by redirecting the AC vents to the back. In such situations, either the front seat becomes freezing cold, or the rear seat occupants continue to suffer from insufficient cooling.

While the AC may be adequate during calm weather, rainy days, or in the evening, I personally feel that it falls short in providing sufficient cooling under normal conditions.

Moreover, the AC vent itself is not user-friendly. When I try to adjust it, dragging it fully to the left actually closes the AC vent instead of redirecting the flow towards me. It becomes a hassle to find the right balance, as no matter how much I adjust it, achieving a proper airflow is challenging.

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-flash-cllosed.jpg

With flash or with enough light you can see the lid inside is closed.

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-withut-flas-not-able-find.jpg

Without enough light, it's not easy to determine if the vent is closed or opened. I have to feel it with my hand to check its position, and sometimes when people get into my car, they inadvertently turn the vent towards their face without realizing it might be closed inside. It can be a slightly complicated situation for a newbie getting into the car.

Ground clearance

The ground clearance of the Nissan Magnite is something that deserves appreciation, as it measures 205mm. This generous ground clearance provides an absolutely blissful experience while driving on village roads or broken terrain. I haven't encountered a single issue related to ground clearance during my time with the vehicle.

Re: My Love Story With Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review

Cost of upkeep & maintenance

I have taken the Nissan Magnite gold care package, which seems to be a good deal, as the price for each product keeps on increasing, and this package covers 5 engine oil changes for the next 5 years. So far, I have not paid for anything in service, and another service date is just around the corner will update about it shortly.

Gearshift & clutch (smoothness, effort required, short or long throw etc.)

In my personal experience, I find the clutch to be a bit stiff, and it quickly tires my leg, no matter how much time I spend using it. After reaching out to service centre, I received a response stating that this is the normal play and it applies to all Magnite cars, but the stiffness causes discomfort, especially during city traffic.

The gearshift seems to be smooth, and I have no complaints about it. However, I do find that a lot of effort is required when using the clutch.

Rooftop Vinyl Wrapping

The very next day after purchasing, I called gloss and received a quote for applying a glossy black wrap, which cost around 4500/-

I also installed 3M tint with 50% visibility which cost about 4000 /- The entire process took one whole day because the rear side was challenging to wrap due to its slightly complicated design (as per their feedback). Additionally, it was a rainy day, which affected the stickiness of the tint. They advised me to leave the car overnight and avoid driving in the rain, but I decided to take it anyway. Surprisingly, after 2 years, the tint is still in perfect condition.

Headlight Upgrade

As I mentioned in my dislikes, the car has one of the worst headlights. I used to drive a lot on ghat roads and in village areas where there are no street lights. The stock halogen lights proved to be very stressful in such situations.

To address this issue, I contacted Car Spark in OMR and found a Maxxlink 200W LED headlight. However, I felt that 200W might be a little too bright, so I ended up purchasing the 150W variant. I tested both options before finalizing my decision. During the testing, I fixed the headlights in the evening, and I found that the 200W was too bright even on a bright day. On the other hand, the 150W option provided a more subtle and less blinding experience for oncoming vehicles.

This is the one I fitted.

This is the one I have installed after validating the 200W option, which proved to be too bright and potentially blinding for oncoming traffic. However, the 150W option is more suitable as it provides sufficient brightness without causing discomfort to other drivers.

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-200w.jpg

I rejected the 200W; it was way too bright.

I also added a windshield sunfilm, Ice Cool shield, which cost Rs 4000/- in Car Spark.

After this, there was a noticeable improvement in cooling, and in fact, visibility was better ( less glare ) even during night drives.

Amazon Accessories :-

Window Zed black Magnetic Sun Shade Curtains.

Privacy and protection are paramount to me, especially when I park the car or during highway drives. I extensively searched for legal options and eventually came across a sunshade that seemed suitable. However, it wasn't tinted enough to provide complete privacy from outside observers.

To address this, I contacted the company via email and requested a custom-made "zed black" sunshade, offering 0% visibility from the outside while still allowing sufficient visibility from the inside. Fortunately, they agreed to my request and promptly sent the specially designed sunshade for us.

Here's the one - https://www.amazon.in/Sporty-Magneti...04&sr=8-5&th=1

But not the exact one which is selling but from this seller.

Here's few picture.

Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story-49108b21d3ce4905b032b99467987548.jpeg

I have only fitted the rear sunshade, and typically, I refrain from using it within the city, except when parking the car. While it does have a zip-type option to make the sideview mirror visible, I still find it somewhat unsuitable. Therefore, I will only use it during parking or when necessary.

Fovera Seat cushion

I also purchased a Fovera Seat cushion for added comfort, and I have become so accustomed to it that it feels odd when I don't use it. I always prefer sitting on this cushion for the enhanced comfort it provides.

Re: Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story

Nice vehicle, Diwan. My cousin, who had used a 2004 Toyota Corolla H4 AT, and then a 2013 Nissan Sunny XL CVT, picked up a Magnite XV CVT as his choice in late 2021. He wanted a small, yet big, retro-looking automatic. I'd suggested an XL6 but he wanted something smaller. Since he was happy with his Sunny, he decided to remain with Nissan. He's been happy with the car this far. Yes, it certainly is built to a price, but offers more than enough. I've driven the car twice and found the driving dead easy. He does airport trips to pick up folks coming in from overseas; has never complained of lack of boot space.

There was once an issue with the AC when it wasn't cooling enough; traced to a suspect hot air flap remaining open due to temperature setting issues. I've told him to run the AC at its min. temperature setting and adjust the blower speed as required. Related post here. Once, while in Chennai, I'd taken the car to be washed. Here is a pic. Cousin was all smiles seeing the shiny car post wash.

Re: Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience on Nissan Magnite. There are very less reviews on Magnite.

One observation, you feel that AC is not doing enough cooling. Under the circumstances adding Black wrap on the roof will further increase the cooling time especially in hot state like Tamil Nadu.

Congratulations @raptor_diwan for your new Magnite and a very detailed review. I am a fellow Magnite owner from Kolkata. Coincidentally, I also have a white coloured Magnite (Turbo XL model) bought in April 2021. The car has clocked just 6200kms in the last 2 years.

Thank you so much, @vigsom, for your input.

I share the same sentiment; it indeed felt effortless and enjoyable to handle, particularly on ghat roads.

Up until now, I haven't utilized automatic climate control. I have been using the AC anually. However, I appreciate your suggestion, and I'll definitely try that.

Thank you for sharing your observation, You are right; adding a Black wrap on the roof might indeed intensify the heat absorption.

Re: Nissan Magnite | Ownership Review | My Love Story

[QUOTEI believe it was available right from the beginning. Was it not available at the time of your purchase?[/quote]

When I purchased it, Magnite came in XE, XL, XV, XV Premium & XL Turbo, XV Turbo, XV Turbo Premium & XV Turbo Premium (O) models. There wasn't any Aspirant model back then.
