Thanks Rudrashiv for sharing all this information on the XUV700 AX5 variant. I myself have booked the AX5 variant at CAI Auto Coimbatore and awaiting delivery in September. Did you get a chance to ask CAI Auto about adding the auto fold mirrors and OEM AX7(like raven_avi) reverse camera to your car? If yes, what was their response?

Cheers!

Hello True Sedan,
Glad to hear that you've booked an AX5 too. Is it a P/D & MT/AT? And when is the tentative delivery planned?

I hope you are well informed about the features it offers and what it misses. If you could stretch your budget a little, AX7 is always a great buy, if not settling down with AX5 makes a lot of sense for the tag it comes with.

Here are some more updates about the additional accessories fitment:
Checked with CAI & few other fellow rides:

TPMS
ASC (CAI) gave a thumbs up and that put a smile on my face too. I am looking to get it done in 3rd/20k service or sometime when I am free and around CAI. Costs around 944/sensor + installation charges. To me, TPMS would really come in handy on some crucial occasions by spotting the air leaks prior + temperature readings during highways that may save us from tire bursts.

Auto-Fold
For now, ASC can not do that as it will be considered a modification to the existing car (which I think looks to be a fair reason). It costs you around 13-15k to do it outside. I have just got used to it. So may opt only if I feel frustrated someday.

Steering Wheel - RH Controls
- I understand we can swap the existing control switches by swapping the ones from AX7/AX7L easily. Part Number for SWITCH STEERING WHEEL ASSY - PIANO BLACK is 1105GAA00461N. This costs ~4k.

- I would love to swap this with the help of ASC so that it's hassle-free and M&M CAI Service Team has really gained my confidence. If they say, it is a NO, then all we need is a good aftermarket shop to swap this.

- And why I am very particular about this or why I am inclined to do this for two reasons, one is to keep our focus on the road (the existing switches to change the menu are under the steering wheel which is so cumbersome to use and it is easy to lose road focus if we operate the ones provided behind the steering wheel). Secondly, aesthetically it looks so satisfying to see the steering wheel with LH & RH switches.

Cruise Controls Looking like a no-go, as there are no dedicated wirings present in XUV700. Coincidently, Mahindra has launched AX5 with Cruise Control in New Zealand. Need to swim in to check how it is done. I actually have a doubt, if LH+RH switch assembly from Scorpio-N may enable Cruise Control in 700 but fingers crossed (++ I don't want to mess up RUDRA's wiring & ECUs)

Reverse camera
- M&M's Reversing Camera is good but not that great. They lack adaptive guidelines as well. It costs you ~3500rs + installation.

- Adding to that, AX7 Camera is just a tiny bit clear/better for nights than what they offer as an accessory. AX7 Camera itself would cost you ~7k+1k wiring.

- Rather it is best if you opt for a camera outside and get the SW patch done at ASCs. You can get decent one's around 3-4k outside.

DM me bro. I will suggest you.

We embark on a spiritual journey to a place that holds timeless beauty and tranquility. Join us as we delve into the sacred realm of divine bliss and embark on a temple trip like no other. Settle in, relax, and let the RUDRA carry us to a realm where spirituality and serenity intertwine.

Who and Where?
Well, it is a planned ~1100kms trip with unveiling the divine pleasures through Coimbatore-Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple-Thiruparankundram-Thiruchendur-Kulasekarapattinam-Halt at Thiruchendur-Rameshswaram-Coimbatore.

Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-trip_map.jpg

Filled the Petrol to the level of auto-cutoff and the basic checks on the levels of Engine Oil, Coolant Oil, Brake Fluid, and Washer Fluids were checked. The tires, faithful companions of the road, were graced with an air pressure of 33 PSI, ready to conquer the miles ahead.

Onboard are 5 Adults, 2 Kids, and a heavy boot of luggage (with one of the 3rd-row seats folded).

All about the journey:

The journey started from Coimbatore way before Sun decides to shed some light (well!! 4 AM).

Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-xuv_start.jpg

I should say the ride was damn breezy. Except for Coimbatore, in all the other districts we felt like we are closer than the Mercury. This resulted in AC being set to a low temperature and a higher blower speed.

Never crossed 110kmph anywhere, maintained a sweet and steady 90-105kmph mostly. No more bouncy or floaty rides. Thanks for that tire pressure suggestion by Vinod Anna. 33psi worked very sweetly. Damn MRF.

In the realm of Thiruchendur and Thoothukudi, a transformation was underway, as the roads themselves were caught in the embrace of renovation. You all would've sensed what's next, it's nothing but driving in the undulations amidst the heavy traffic. To my surprise, RUDRA gracefully maneuvered through the treacherous potholes and undulations, effortlessly shielding us from their impacts (we still were able to experience the pothole and undulations to a little extent, but it is way better than before).

Our journey found a momentary pause at Thiruchendur. Yet, amidst the stillness, neither a bead of sweat nor a trace of fatigue graced the faces of our companions. In fact, an unwavering determination took hold, as everyone yearned to reach Rameswaram before nightfall. I had to just pass it on, we decided to pause at Thiruchendhur as driving towards Rameshwaram would land us at midnight, searching for the stay for a peaceful sleep.

In the sacred realm of Rameshwaram, we offered our heartfelt prayers, but time's embrace limited our presence at Dhanushkodi to a fleeting 30-40 minutes, driven by the urgency to return before the sun bid its final farewell.

The T2T stood at a commendable 13.6kmpl

And here are some snaps from the EcoSense:

Re: Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700

Just an add-on, I thought should post.

I understand many of the users are facing the issue with Radio turning ON at higher volumes whenever we enter the XUV700.

It can be actually fixed by a simple procedure:
- Press the home button,
- Swipe up,
- Choose User Profile,
- Select the Default Audio Options,
- Choose the one you prefer to have.

Alternatively, you can go to Settings>Audio Options>Mute the radio volume as well.

I look forward to embarking on more adventurous monsoon drives and trips in the coming days. Stay tuned as I explore the breathtaking landscapes and share my experiences with you. I'll keep you posted every step of the way. Until then, keep your wanderlust alive and embrace the magic of the monsoon season. Happy travels!

Unveiling the Charms of Alleppey

Here I am, back again!! to share my experience with our recent road trip from Coimbatore to Alleppey that adds another sweet ~550 kms memory to our lives & RUDRA !!

After a quite long search, decided to book the "India Vacationz Houseboat" at Alleppey. Knowing that the Alleppey, Kochi, and a few other places got flooded made us a bit worried. Nevertheless, the change in climate favored our drive.

The plan was so straight and simple as it is going to be just me and my wife. The plan is to start from Coimbatore at 8 AM on Saturday and reach around 1.30 PM at the boathouse. More about the boathouse comes next, stay at the boathouse till the next day at 9 AM. From there, reach Cherai Beach and take on the adventure rides (if available) and then stop at a few good places, break for lunch, and return back to Coimbatore.

The journey started at 8 AM in the morning. Used this opportunity to check how good BPCL's Speed93 was (one of my brothers from Rotaract Club was recommending it all day) and that too it was a COCO pump that was in our way. Had a tank full, and checked the tire pressure at all the shoes of RUDRA.

We were a bit nervous if we could reach Alleppey by 1.30 P.M (Courtesy: Kerala highways with unusual speed limits, all the way was 90kmph, and a few places were just 50kmph).

Passing through the newly built tunnel in Kerala's Kuthiran tunnel with RUDRA and RAJA sir's mesmerizing music is surely a great vibe to feel <3

Here is the view to wonder

From scorching sun to torrential downpours, our road trip was a rollercoaster of weather surprises. Took a break, it was not the machine that needed it, but was the man who needed it. Took a break around 11 PM for a stretch and tea.

Take a look at our mighty RUDRA taking a quick break along with us.

Though we had a fear caught up if we could make it by 1.30, RUDRA was asked to take his wings at certain places to keep up the timing and we timely reached the boathouse.

Our long-anticipated dream of witnessing a houseboat amidst the enchanting woods and serene waters finally came true. Here is a look at the Houseboat that cruised us for around 5hrs on Day 1 and 1hr on Day 2.

Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-img_7700.jpg

I was told that parking was free and that they had private parking but were still charged. Had to agree as there was no other safe place for my RUDRA to take a rest after the 260 km ride.

Serene scenery cradles RUDRA, resting safe and sound

We were greeted with a welcome drink/lemon juice. And was escorted to our rooms. Surprisingly it was really nice and we really liked the interiors of the houseboat. Manoj who was our contact showed me a different room when I enquired (it was also a Honeymoon Suite, which was even richer), we were told that if we book in Agoda we will get only the premium room that they offered. It sounded really silly, but the room offered was pretty decent and hence had to accept it for time of sake.

The Lovely Lakeview

They offered a great service, but we had to ask each and everything. The speed boat ride they arranged for us (of course that's a separate cost though - 700/couple) was an exciting ride. The booking included Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast. They arranged an entertainment program at night which was very decent and enjoyable too.
He was trying really hard to keep us engaged and was performing really well. Kudos to him.
Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-img_7732.jpg

Here is a quick look outside the houseboat. This is surely a great vibe and feel to experience.

The speed boat ride was one hell of an experience that everybody should try at least once. Here is a small gist of how it looks like

Thrilling Speed Boat Ride

The scenic beauty around that took us for a long walk
Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-img_7709.jpg

We had a great time at the Houseboat. The only part we did not like was the limited variety of items for breakfast & lunch was offered as 1fish/person with veg meals which was a bummer. Barring the limitations, it was really a great experience which nobody should miss.

We started from the Alleppey at 10 AM the next day. Embarking our way to the lovely Cherai.

We reached the lovely Cherai around 12 PM. Overconfident me believing the Adventure Sports rides would be available was deeply saddened. Because adventure sports and ATV rides are all stopped due to the recent floods and increase in sea level that resulted in tidal waves coming more closely in. Lesson learned, plan such trips after August.

The exciting view of Cherai

Nevertheless, the beauty of Cherai did not feel us sad. We played around for an hour. And then took our way back to Coimbatore touching/visiting a few other cool areas like the Lulu mall.

We had lunch on the way at Gokulam Residency near Thrissur. I should say that was one of the best lunches I had in a while.

Filled with cherished memories, we journeyed back to Coimbatore, content.

Adding on to the smiles, RUDRA astonished us with the greatest mileage ever recorded by me. 15.03kmpl was the T2T which I rounded off to 15.1kmpl for the sake of little happiness. Don't know if it was Kerala highway's speed limitations or BPCL's Speed93 or something improved in my driving pattern, I was happily smiling the way back.

And for the new readers, mine is an AX5 Petrol Manual. So it definitely excites me to see such a number.

Here are the scores from ECOSENSE.

Thanks to Mahindra for retaining this at least. This ECOSENSE is my last hope as an AX5 buyer.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700

Hello Folks,

Here I am to share with you the recall announcement by Mahindra & Mahindra's XUV700 Wiring Loom routing for the Brake Potentiometer in the engine bay.

Happy that manufacturers like Mahindra & Mahindra are transparent and seriously noting down the issues/feedback from the customers or field failures if any (not sure this arised because of that), proactively making corrective measures in ironing out such issues nationwide.

Good job Mahindra

What is the condition?

There is a potential risk of abrasion cut of the wiring loom that may lead to elevated heat loads due to the excess current drawn.

Specifically, M&M plans to conduct inspections on 108,306 units of the XUV700 produced between June 8, 2021, and June 28, 2023, focusing on identifying and rectifying this wiring problem. Additionally, they will examine 3,560 units of the XUV400 manufactured between February 16, 2023, and June 5, 2023, in order to address a potential problem involving the brake potentiometer's spring return action.

This recall applies to XUV700 units manufactured within the two years leading up to June 2023 and XUV400 vehicles produced between February and June of the same year.

Customers who own these models will receive personalized communications from the company, initiating the necessary inspections and subsequent rectifications.

My thoughts
This means all the units of XUV700 & 400 sold so far are to be considered for this inspection & corrective course of action.

Glad to know that M&M has proactively started emailing customers about this as well. And the email is as below.

Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-recall1.jpg

Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-recall2.jpg

What I am more curious about is, 700 and 400 both are monocoque, the latter one being an EV, looks like wire routing/harness principles are similar for both. Scorpio-N being a BOF probably escaped from this service action as it could've adapted a different wire routing in the engine bay.

I am planning to take a visit to ASC sometime in the early next month, initially was intending to install the TPMS and update the SW (heard the carplay experience is stable, and anyways I am not using MMI/Mappls by default nor renewing AdrenoX, it does not matter to me), this service action would be an add to that list of actions to be performed.

I will keep the thread updated if I find out what is the course of action carried out and how long it takes for completing this action.

UPDATE ON THE RECALL

Continuing from my previous post about the Wiring Loom routing recall for the Brake Potentiometer announced by M&M in this thread:

Received a message from Mr. Dileep on August 21st that the parts had arrived for the recall. I planned to complete it either this Friday or in the first week of September, combining it with the TPMS installation.

However, on the very next day, an unexpected turn of event occurred. While idling the engine as part of my usual cold start routine before heading to a nearby relative's place, I suddenly heard a distinct "tak tak" sound from the engine. The noise seemed like that of a loose tappet or lifter and was notably louder with the hood closed.

Listening closely, I realized the sound was more prominent, raising concerns. Despite considering the possibility of it being due to a cold start, the noise persisted even after a 5km drive and 5 minutes of idling. This unexpected development left me puzzled about the cause of the issue.

Immediately recorded it and sent it to Mr. Ronald. He suggested bringing RUDRA to the ASC as he wants to diagnose it before anything goes out of hand. Glad that they are attentive & are willing to immediately sort out things.

I have recorded the sound of that tak tak from the engine and the recording is attached at the bottom of the thread:

Parallelly I was seeking support from Mr. Avinash Birnale (though he is a Diesel head, he has a very good understanding of M&M, the engine, and XUV), Mr. Suganth, and Mr. NRP (Whatsapp Club mStallion heads). Thanks to them for their quick support. NRP recently got his engine replaced hence his recording did not match the sound I was getting, and neither did it match Suganth's. That elevated my worry a bit more. Avinash reached out to his connections to check what had gone unusual here and came back that it could be bad fuel or an issue with the Serpentine belt.

Had to reschedule some of the work to Thursday and decided to rush to ASC and get it fixed. Reached ASC around 12PM amidst the hot and sour traffic here. Ronald & Dileep were waiting for RUDRA and was immediately attended to without a wait. Surprised that being the second day of the week the ASC was filled with XUVs.

RUDRA was taken for a spin just to make sure everything is okay. That sound of tak tak magically disappeared and it did not reproduce after starting it 3hrs from its cool down state too. Looks like mStallion has this secret understanding with ASCs seems😅. According to ASC this could be the hydraulic lifter sound as a result of the morning cold start (oil takes time to flow up). ASC took special care to check if there was anything wrong and reverted that there was nothing to be worried about. RUDRA is sound and beast.

Took this opportunity to complete the recall, update the SW, and fix the tail lamp plastic snapping out at times.

Here are the quick pics for your view

The parts and place behind this recall

Well, one can't notice it immediately though. Requires a bit of a closer look to see it.

It is just a 15-minute job altogether. Highlighted in the pics are those wires under the fuse box which are insulated and tied to the body to avoid it being scraped by the bolt.

A sneak-peak of how Mappls look when shared via CarPlay
Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-whatsapp-image-20230824-9.15.25-am-3.jpeg

If somebody from M&M or the Mappls team are reading this, kindly consider that:
==> There are ppl like me who do want to support the India-based Mappls App. But they are a long way to go.
==> Routes suggestions in the Mappls are not optimized + the Laggy interface with CarPlay + UI via CarPlay feels like using an app a decade ago. ==> They should bring multi-touch to pinch and zoom via CarPlay.
==> Find a way to open a location shared in WhatsApp that can be opened in Mappls without any fuss.

Until then, Google Maps is my go-to app for Navigation with RUDRA.

Do you think, I would miss out on clicking the coolest-looking Apple Maps in the MID?

CAI ASC just took 2.5-3 hours to complete the recall, patching SW, and fixing the tail lamp plastic. Dileep, Ronald, Vishnu, and Saranth were all supportive all the time

The good part is they have a decent customer lounge to wait. I was there the whole 3hours taking my Work from ASC.
Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-cai-customer-lounge.jpg

And also some good books to read.
Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-whatsapp-image-20230824-9.12.56-am-1.jpeg

Here's my take on this latest update:
1. The UI now feels more fluidic and responsive.
2. Wireless CarPlay is currently stable post-update; monitoring for any changes.
3. I can not use Mappls as I chose not to renew the subscription.
4. Apple Maps is now projected on MID, though it needs improvement in India at a great time.
5. Flashing EMS ECU alongside this update resets data like Avg. FE, memory seats, and audio settings; M&M should consider helping customers restore these.

The CarPlay now has a missed opportunity for widget management on the home screen. If you notice, the home screen has a map and directions widget on the page, I think that directions part could've been replaced with something else useful - maybe a weather widget, contact widget or a small icon for SIRI etc.,
Mahindra XUV700 (aka Rudra) Initial Ownership Report | Journey from an Eon to the XUV700-whatsapp-image-20230824-9.15.25-am-4.jpeg

It's too early to say that FE took a hit (-1.5kmpl, now MID stands at 11kmpl) after this update as I have just covered 50kms after the update.

I am hoping the unusual hydraulic lifter sound won't crop up again.

Another Kerala drive is just around the corner but this time is more on the spiritual side.

I am on 10.27.62 as well, AX7. For some reason I cannot get apple maps to project to the MID. Can you please detail the exact steps followed?

The steps that I followed were as below:
1. On the MID select Navigation
2. On ACP, navigate to Apple maps and set the location

I also tried the reverse of the above but to no avail.

Hope the above video helps.

I am hearing the so many negative reviews about the Mappls app after the latest update. How is the stability of the CarPlay and the Mappls for you?

Thank you Rudra_Shiv, These were the exact steps that I followed. May be I need to get the software patched once again since it does not work like this for me.

The Mappls update is slow and buggy and takes ages to lock into the GPS. Even after that, it more often than not loses the signal and fails to update the progress. What I mean to say is that I may have moved 2-3 streets ahead, but the Mappls would still continue to think that I have not moved an inch.

Off late, I am seeing both wireless AA and ACP getting disconnected often. I am not sure the reason for it. Interestingly, this happens at a specific location on my way to work. It has happened so many times that I feel that location is jinxed! the only solution after that is to connect using bluetooth only. I will try and see if this the same case when in wired mode next week.

Hello Normaltusker, I assume this has to do with the SW update as you rightly called. Just ensure the Apple Maps app and the iPhone is running on the latest iOS16. I hope you are not in any beta version of iOS17 as that could be a probable cause.

All thanks to the Vodafone eSim offered with our XUV700. I suspect all the issues of Mappls GPS delays, search delays are due to the poor internet connection Vodafone eSim offers.

Regarding your issue, I recommend you to delete all paired devices associated with your CarPlay delete the WiFi details of our XUV in our mobile, and repair the devices once again.
ProTip: Just make sure the Wi-Fi setting in your car is a 5Ghz band.

Interestingly, I recall our Abirnale encountering a similar problem with CarPlay disconnecting at specific locations. Could you check if there are any Wi-Fi cameras installed in the area where you experienced these disconnections? There might be interference between the Wi-Fi hardware used for CarPlay and the Wi-Fi camera setups in that particular town.

You are spot on: I am running iOS17 RC right now.

The disconnections that are happening are very close to where Abirnale lives! So I am guessing these may be the same locations!

I think we have solved the first mystery of Apple Maps for you. iOS17 RC could be the probable cause. Once iOS17 officially releases this September 18 you should be able to project the Apple Maps to the MID.

But the CarPlay disconnection mystery continues I assume that should be happening because of Wi-Fi networks/cameras around us. And Thanks to Abirnale for spotting such issues and tagging the probable causes.

Between, I have been trying out AA for quite some time, for me AA is more stable than CP (Via Wireless). I think Apple needs to learn a lot, & the least I expect from them is offering pinch zoom for Google Maps via CarPlay. Zooming over the arrows on the infotainment system in this car feels me using an age-old system.
