BHPian ![]() | Sold my Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 | Bought a Jeep Compass TrailHawk Its been a long time I have been planning to write a thread on the ownership of a Jeep compass. I have been addicted about driving off road and also wrote a thread https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-e...g-academy.html (Getting dirty at the Mahindra Offroading Academy) Rewinding time to history of ownership of cars - My family owned a willys Jeep Left hand drive petrol and due to some reasons we had to sell it and that left a mark on me. My car ownership started with Maruti Alto in 2005 drove it for 4 ½ Years crossing 50+K kms. Then upgraded to Maruti Swift VDI drove it for 5+ Years and for about 78K Kms and then I bought a pre worshiped Skoda Laura with 60+K kms driven and I used it to the completion of 115+K Kms. About Skoda Laura, it was one of the best ownership in my journey so far. I bought Laura in October 2014, a very well maintained car. I got it tuned from Pete’s but after 100,000 the ownership started giving me some issues and frequent visits to my mechanic. The nightmare was when I had to tow the car twice for a same reason. Its last break down made me want to switch the car. When in 2017 Jeep launched the compass I took a test drive and found it as a very interesting proposition. The options available were diesel 4x4 and petrol 4x2, I did not find petrol engine that convenient and I wanted to buy a 4x4. Hence I went ahead with the diesel and manual 4x4 jeep compass. April 2018 : ![]() Jeep came up with a discount offer on the Compass and that made got me to think of an upgrade. I started looking for one Here are a few tech specs I looked at Jeep Compass - 170 BHP l 2 Liter Engine l 6 Air Bags l seating 5 l 408 liter boot space l 4x4 manual l crawl ratio 17:1 XVU 500 - 138 BHP l 2.2 liter engine l 6 air bags l seating 7 l 93 liter boot space l 4x4 AWD continuous mode l not sure - my need for car was never for 7 seater. Hyundai Tucson - did not see the vehicle as I was more keen on to off-road vehicle Toyota Fortuner - It was too tall for person who is 5.5 feet height ![]() Looking at all the above vehicles, it was an obvious choice to go with the Jeep Compass Limited 4X4. May 5, 2018 ![]() ![]() Above picture is really close to my heart as my Dad and Mom took the delivery of Jeep and this was a big surprise for my Dad as he did not know till he entered the showroom that I had bought the car. I specially bought Jeep in Pune to share happiness with my Family. My daughter Named my JC as "Lightning Bolt" The Compass has 208mm ground clearance, 16.8 degree approach angle, 22.9 degree ramp breakover angle and 31.7 degree departure angle give it a genuine agility in these unyielding surroundings. ![]() Pic from other thread on Team Bhp Removing plate marked in blue circle may give better approach angle, but need to be cautious as extreme approach angle and high speed may damage the bumper. Jeep Compass Upgrades : I added K&N replacement filter to enhance air intake engine, this gave some improvement in performance. As most of Jeep owners have noticed initial Jeep owners had light issues, I faced similar too. Just to over come the same I did the following upgrades - 1. for fog lamps I used Phillips extreme vision - this I bought from US ![]() 2. for Headlamps I upgraded to HID's It was a jugad I did, I ordered bulbs from uglare.com with 4200K and 55W and to install and I went to Sainath Auto ultimate Khar and bought RSR Ballast from them entire upgrade was done in 7-8K RS. It worked really well. The result was out standing may be not as good as Morimoto or Osram HID KIT. But I was happy with price point and throw of HID's. 3. Last one was who give yellow lights in DRL ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 4. Also changed all the yellow lights in cabin to white lights again from Sainath Auto Ultimate Khar. Here are some more pics of Lightning Bolt : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ownership experience of Jeep was enhanced after joining Jeep community called Jeep Western Wanderers. JWW is a community of passionate Jeepers who come together and share ownership experience any issues faced by jeepers provide solutions to members and lastly do trails. I joined the community in August 2018 and my first Trail was in September 2018. Here is a small video of Trail Few pictures from Jeep Trails: ![]() Every one likes shiny cars but Jeep has to be Muddy, This is a benchmark to me hope someday I will reach there. (pic of my friend Akshay's Jeep) ![]() ![]() ![]() Feb 2020 : JWW and Jeep India organized a trail in 19 Degree North at Amby Valley - where Jeep India launched Its 2019 Trail Hawk. The experience of driving was amazing and it definitely gave me a perspective of approach and departure angles. Few Pictures from the Trail ![]() ![]() ![]() More to come on Trails in future updates While doing the trails I have been doing road trips too. Few long drives Mumbai Pune Indore and Mumbai - This was my first long drive in Jeep. I did Pune to Indore in 1 days and there was no fatigue. The FSD suspension set up worked flawless. Mumbai - Hubli - Gokarna - Udupi - Bangalore - Belgaum and Mumbai - this was a super fund drive in Jeep. We did good amount of off-road. Roads were amazing specially coastal road from Gokarna to Mangalore Few Pics from the drive : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And many small drive across Maharashtra and Goa. In January 2020 met with an accident where I scratched Hyundai Creta, impact was bad very visible from picture below. But Lightning Bolt had just minor scratch which I fixed free of cost. ![]() Service Updates : HOW OFTEN DO YOU SEND YOUR CAR IN FOR SERVICE, AND HOW AFFORDABLE DO YOU FIND THE OVERALL SERVICE? Here is my take : I send it once every year according to the recommended service interval by Jeep. However, I usually prefer sending it earlier as our Indian conditions can be pretty harsh, and I love taking care of my vehicle. The overall cost could have been somewhat more accessible. Still, one has to pay a premium for something as premium as the Compass. 1. Oct 2018 First service at Landmark Jeep - It was free service changed engine oil (though not recommended by Jeep) - 4K approx 2. March 2019 2nd 15K service at Landmark Jeep - Oil and filter changes and alignment balancing - Cost 9K approx 3. Dec 2019 26K Kms at Landmark Jeep - 3rd Service - Oil and filter changes brake pad changes cost 26K approx 4. June 21 35K Kms at Landmark Jeep - Paid service Oil and filter changes and Preventive maintenance Cost 19K approx 5. July 21 36K Kms at Landmark Jeep - Steering column and rack changed under warranty cost FOC I found Landmark Jeep very co-operative and helpful, I always got a correct advice from them. Coming back to Trails : While in lockdown trails were not happening WFH was on, I hardly used my Jeep, most of trips were Mumbai - Pune - Mumbai August -2021 - Freedom Trail - JWW announced a trail at Karjat. It was a long time since Jeep has seen slush mud and rut. My daughter did a small VLog on trail Few pics from the Trail ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Axe77 : 8th July 2022 at 09:09. BHPian ![]() | Re: My Jeep Story : Addicted to Jeep - Limited 4x4 leads to a Trail Hawk December 2021 - Camp Jeep : Jeep organized Camp at Film city Mumbai, I got a chance to drive Jeep Wrangler and On a off road track built by Jeep team. ![]() ![]() Driving Wrangler was swift and easy. This was one off opportunity to experience big brother. That's when thought crossed my mind that, I need an automatic upgrade. Learn off-road Trail JWW, Landmark Jeep and FCA organized a trail on learn off-road grounds. There were 40+ Jeeps and 90+ Members joined the trail We did a CSR (community give back) at village school near by, we contributed towards building a science laboratory for school. About Learn off-road track Dr. Tejas Kothari and team curated a trail for Jeep Compass, It was super fun to drive a Jeep compass in and around Learn off road grounds Some of the passes were tough, We had to understand the track well before driving on terrain. Few Pics from Trail Visiting village school event: ![]() ![]() Me resting while Trail is going on and I was overseeing 4X2 guys driving ![]() ![]() ![]() Team who worked on managing Trail event ![]() Social Media Post by Jeep India https://www.instagram.com/p/CYV7h4dq..._web_copy_link December 21 Truth be told - my jeep 4x4 was doing brilliant - it took my family in great comfort and generally kept our mood happy now the problem with "wanting more is wanting more", I drove my friend @Motoringlover's Tucson which was 4wd Automatic, now that changed the dynamics. I now wanted an Automatic - especially given the Mumbai traffic ![]() ![]() January 2022 : Thought stuck my mind if I could do the upgrade to my Jeep, Jeep is been regularly upgrading compass 2017 was initial launch 2018 launched Limited Plus - with Panoramic sunroof 2019 launched Trail hawk - I felt heart broken as I waited for TH to launch in India and in May 2018 I gave up and bought manual 4X4 and it was too early to change the car. This picture always reminded me on trail hawk dream ![]() 2020 launched longitude 4x4 Automatic 2021 launched all new compass with Model S - I was tempted by looking at features I was sold on to it. But I refrained my self to see the model s and to do the test drive. I voiced out my proposition to buy a new car to my close friend and to my surprise he called me back next day that his friend is interested to see it. We met on Sunday and gave him good walk around and he was happy with the car. Monday I got a call again and deal done. ![]() Last trip with Lightning Bolt to a nearby place and our favorite highway. ![]() Before handing over the Lightning Bolt, I upgraded rubber to Falcon wildpeak H/T tires. They were used for 20K KMS and had good amount of rubber to last at least 25K kms more. ![]() I asked for some time and decided D day to part with my Lightning Bolt. Jeep Splash : ![]() ![]() ![]() Someone Said " There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part, So just give me a happy middle And a very happy start." New Vehicle Search started I started searching options that can suit my needs, I was looking for following Price point - 32-33 lakh on road (With BH plate) seating capacity - 5 seater Boot space - 400 liter (I was happy with Jeep Compass's Boot) Electronics - Should be up to date with latest options available Off - Road capability - my usage is 80% on highway and 20% off road Sunroof was must from daughters demand The options I thought are : Toyota Hilux - Toyota announced launch of Hilux in Jan-22 and it looked good to me but immediately shot down by family members. Few memes while I sounded positive about Hilux in family - 1. I can live in galaxy - Buy a sleeping bag 2. Why dont I start a relocation business, I had a good experience house shifting 3. I can start a dudhwala business and carry maximum milk cans I even tried calling Lakozi and Wasan Toyota asking if the vehicle is available to see, but answer was no. Also price point was not very clear and looking at segment and built I felt its not going to fit in my range. Next best option was I look for Jeep Compass Model S and if 2022 - Jeep compass Trail Hawk plans to launch in India. All New Jeep Compass Trail Hawk was ticking all the boxes, except the price point (which was not clear). Meanwhile I realized Jeep India has started updates on launch of Trail Hawk in India. So I connected with someone in Jeep India to understand if Jeep is lunching Trail Hawk and I got positive confirmation. The next worry was in past Jeep reduced features while launching 2019 trail hawk, like memory seats, IVRM and few , so are they going to drop some while in new TrailHawk too? 31st January 2022 finally I gave booking amount for All New Jeep compass Trail Hawk, without knowing price and detailed specs. To my surprise I got an email from Landmark Jeep on 2nd Feb that my booking is accepted On 21st Feb I got confirmation that I have been allotted Jeep and 25th Feb I got a message that my has arrived at landmark Thane workshop. There were media teasers started by then. On March 1st I went to my Jeep compass Trail Hawk ![]() 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk Design The 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk retains the same design that we’ve all grown familiar with on the standard Compass, but it receives exclusive dual-tone paint schemes with six different colours to choose from. The bonnet displays the Trailhawk decal, while the fenders sport Trail Rated badges and the tailgate sports the Trailhawk logo. In comparison to the regular Compass, the Trailhawk is equipped with all-season tyres shod on smaller 17-inch wheels, while the alloy wheels are also exclusive to the Trailhawk. The closed-off grille has been carried over from the regular facelifted Compass, while a red towing hook at the rear will come in handy in case you do get stuck somewhere. 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk: What’s new under the skin? Being the off-road focused iteration of the regular Compass, the 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk rides taller thanks to the raised suspension, which also gives it 482mm of water wading ability. Meanwhile the bumpers on both ends have been tweaked slightly to offer better approach and departure angles. Speaking of the powertrain, the 2022 Trailhawk gets the familiar 2-litre turbo diesel under the hood which makes 167.6bhp and 320Nm of torque and is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Trailhawk comes with a 20:1 low ratio, and it also gets the Selec-Terrain system with five modes, including a ‘Rock’ mode as well. 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk Interiors and Equipment Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a familiar space — the Trailhawk carries the same interior layout as the regular Compass facelift, but the presence of Trailhawk logos and contrast red stitching on the seats, the dashboard, and even on the leather-wrapped steering wheel will remind you this isn’t a regular Compass at all. Some of the equipment the 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk receives includes rain-sensing wipers, LED cornering fog lamps, an auto-dimming IRVM, a 360-degree parking camera, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system equipped with UConnect, voice commands, navigation, and a nine-speaker sound system with a subwoofer among many others. Here is a comparison I put together on old trail hawk to all new Trail hawk ![]() Meanwhile few of my JWW group friends told me to get done PPF before car I take the delivery. So I checked up with ![]() 5th March PDI and launch day for Trail Hawk, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Landmark has ensured to deliver Trail Hawk on same day as launch date and Special Thanks to (Team Landmark - Nirav Shah - CEO Landmark Jeep, Kamlesh Gupta GM sales and his team and Rajesh Pawar and Jeep India PR and Digital Marketing team) They took extra effort to deliver Jeep on same day as launch day. To my surprise I got a delivery from Jayesh who is Jeep India's National Sales head and we felt really over whelmed with such a delivery plan Jeep and Landmark made. I guess I must be the first one to get All New 2022 Jeep Compass Trail Hawk in India on same day as launch day. Jayesh giving me goodies ![]() special gift... ![]() Unveiling of All new trail hawk ![]() ![]() Handing keys over to me ![]() Curtain raiser of my Lighening bolt Jr. ![]() ![]() More to come : Driving experience Trails I did with Lightning Bolt Jr. (specially with Rock mode on) Last edited by Aditya : 7th July 2022 at 19:16. BHPian ![]() | Re: My Jeep Story : Addicted to Jeep - Limited 4x4 leads to a Trail Hawk Finally after a wait of 1 month Jeep Trail Hawk comes home. ![]() Tradition of removing plastic from seat covers on day 1, this time my daughter helped me in removing plastic from covers ![]() PPF gives extra shine to color ![]() The black and red stickers are looking super amazing ![]() I loved the dark gray monograms they look super. ![]() About Interiors : Jeep has done fab job while building 2021 Model of compass. Key features to note are Color scheme 1. Jeep has used dual tone color scheme, where seats are black and lower interior are black. 2. The upper section is light gray or cream looks good - unlike model S entire black, I felt a bit dark in cabin of model S 3. dashboard has gray line which pop out really well. Also piano finish console looks more up market 4. Red stitching highlights black red combo and gives sporty look Infotainment 1. Wireless carplay - Sometime it gives me hard time but mostly works 2. Display of 10 inch - works well and compared to previous 8 inch version. Previous version use to get disconnected frequently 3. GPS based maps - Tom Tom works really well 4. AC Controls - very easy to access on infotainment 5. Apline music system speakers are good 6. USB C port is a need of an hour - may be 12V socket would have made a good impression, but Dil always mange more 7. Lastly 360 Degree camera is an highlight, works so well. Key areas where I have used it bumper to bumper traffic, off road drives. This gives right perspective to drive a vehicle. Air conditioning 1. Ventilated seats is a wow factor for me. works really well specially useful while you feel stressed and sweaty in long drives 2. Jeep made AC vent smaller as compared to previous model. some times I feel they are not sufficient. 3. Overall I am neutral on AC system. It serves the purpose well and wow factor is ventilated seats Seating 1. Jeep is known for comfortable seating and so is the case with Trail Hawk 2. Memory options for driver seat is much needed and helps really well. Specially when valet parking guy messes up seats. now no more! 3. Jeep believes in equality so there is no difference driver and co passenger seats (my experience in Tucson 2019 version - Co-passenger cannot adjust height and such a un-comfortable seating) 4. no changes to rear seat Interior lighting 1. Most of the lights are yellow lights, jeep could have up graded to white lights / LED they look good. 2. Panoramic sunroof is awesome - great source of energy (I mean energy to drive to Jeep - feels more natural) we get good sun light. Feels close to nature while off roading 3. Jeep is been categoric is designing cabin components sides doors lights, cup holder light and beams on gear leaver are few to note. Switches : 1. Jeep has removed dummies, specially on steering wheel. They added cruse control, 2. Auto headlights works well, I missed that in older version 3. Boot opening and closing switch this is a good feature 4. Overall center console is been managed well with various options and specifically 4x4 options. I liked the way they have given 4x4 leaver type swith than round one. 5. 4 Low and hill decent works flowless and placed on right spot 6. Hold - the way it operates Hold locks the gear and put the vehicle in as-is mode. Important feature in off roading some time you need to hold a position. 7. Few missing functions - sports mode, paddle shifters and some more features . Yeh Dil always mange more ! 8. OVRM switch is better than previous model. Exterior : 1. Bumper, approach angle and departure angle are covered above 2. Plastic cladding is been very useful and I will explain in my future update. I found This part less costly (Door cladding costs just 1250 RS isnt that cheap?) 3. Fish tale antenna is better than the wired one. Wired is bit longer use to get stuck in my stack parking. (Mumbai guys can feel a pain) 4. Boot opening and closing button is placed well 5. The Red toe hook is killer amongst all. kash Jeep would have got front toe hooks too ! That's where I got sold to buy Trail Hawk in 2018 Engine The Gear Box - 9 speed This is my understanding of gear box, I am Finance by profession 1. 1st and 2nd gears are extremely low and meant for off road, you always take off in 2nd gear (auto mode) 2. 1st gear is always used for off road, so when you stick to 4 low thats when you can engage 1st gear. 1st gives you crawling ability in sticky conditions. 3. So 1st and 2nd gears are tunned to low gearing ratio, Just to explain more on 1st gear engine will be at 3-4K RPM and max speed of 20 -25 KMPH and for 2nd gear at 3-4K RPM max speed would be 30-35KMPH. that's how these gears are tuned. 4. So with the above mention rest of gearing ratios are also slightly different. 5. With the above logic I found gearbox good and works well on off road drive. My friend @Motoringlover who likes fast cars may not be happy with the gearing as TH is not meant for quicker and faster rides. 6. I feel sometimes gearbox acts funny and goes to lower gears, that actually make gharrr sound (due to lower ratios). This has happened with me on steep incline on turn 7. But the first gear is something I love it. I would love to go on1st gear drives Others : 1. Planning to upgrade air filter to K&N stock. Lets see if that makes any impact. ( I have this from pervious car) 2. More details to come after service.. Jeeplife Application Jeep India has developed an application IOS and android based, which can Lock, monitor car, find my car, blink lights, Honk and basic information like fuel, battery and coolant. You can also see driving history You can book a service through app and check service history Coming back to Trails : 12th March Immediately after getting Trail Hawk home, I wanted to take LB Jr. out on terrain. So I found an opportunity to ride in jungle. First long drive ![]() ![]() Trail Hawk meets Trail Hawk.. not much of difference visibly from front but certainly can notice New TH is taller from closer eyes ![]() ![]() ![]() 3rd May : Rock mode on ! Somewhere around Pune.. ![]() ![]() ![]() 21st May : Night Trail at learn off road grounds : As summer is going super hot JWW members decided to a Night Trail on learn off-road grounds. It was an interesting event where Jeep India also got us first look of Meridian ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cd2Si..._web_copy_link https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cd8I2..._web_copy_link New addition to Family My cousin was looking for upgrade from Maruti 800 AC to something vibrant and 4X4, after lot of discussion and debate we settled down to add member in family. ![]() 12th June : Minor brush up happened while coming out office parking. It looked really bad to me. The option I could think of was either go to service station and get the complete door painted or find a good denter who can do dry denting. Finally with lots of search managed to find some one who could do that. I called up RS Motors in Kandivali - spoke to Rasool he said he will try to dry dent it. Also while I was there thought came to paint calipers to red. (Matching to sticker color) So got the job done ![]() Exact patch before work started ![]() Painter fixing the cladding which costed me 1240 RS ![]() Caliper painting - ![]() ![]() ![]() Job complete ![]() 4th July LB Jr. has done 4600KMS so far and 400 KMs more to go for servicing, mostly will be done this weekend. The season of off-road Monsoon begins Last edited by sameerpb : 6th July 2022 at 19:49. |

| Re: Sold my Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 | Bought a Jeep Compass TrailHawk Fantastic journey. Nothing like reposing confidence in a brand when you flip one Compass for another and have a family member buy into the product too. My own friend flipped his 2018 petrol AT Compass for a 2021 facelift Compass (diesel A/T) and he's delighted with the car. Absolutely loved all the offroading pics and videos in this thread and can't wait to join my first monsoon outing with the JWW folks. Please do keep the updates flowing and wish you many happy miles and years of ownership with your Trailhawk. |

| Re: Sold my Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 | Bought a Jeep Compass TrailHawk Congratulations! Jeep Compass is indeed an aspirational product for many. However, purely from a financial perspective this is possibly the worst decision you could have taken. There is a thread on Team BHP that talks about keeping cars for a long duration (10+ yrs.). Selling you Compass 4x4 to buy a Trailhawk seems more of a heart over mind decision. I for one would never even think of selling a Jeep Compass to buy another! You took a massive depreciation hit on your 4x4 and will again be driving the "same" car. Very hard for a person like me to digest. Regardless, wishing you a (slightly) longer and enjoyable customer experience. |

![]() Further, the Compass exists in a segment of it's own (small, luxurious 4x4), so people cannot cross shop. Sameer has got so much more in the new Trailhawk over his older 4x4. The 2018 Compass was utilitarian at best (i owned a Limited so i know what i am referring to), the 2020 Trailhawks were under-whelming in terms of features and so in the end they sold for 3-4 lakh discounts. The new Trailhawk is far more capable than the 2018 4x4, retains all the top end features and is priced decently well given the competition (Tiguan is priced much higher, the upcoming Tucson will also be in that range). The exclusivity factor itself is worth the additional moolah. ![]() Congratulations Sameer on owning perhaps one of the most desirable SUVs out there. | |
