Re: Azure Grey 2006 Maruti-Suzuki Swift VXi | Ownership Review

Hey Ashton,

Firstly, Many thanks for your ideas around the DIYs. I have been following your threads(& other teamBhpians as well ) and already did a few DIY modifications on my swift. I own a Swift Type 1 (vxi trim w/o airbag) with K12M engine (2010-11 series) that has clocked 1,34,000 kms on the Odo now. Happy to mention that my family is the first owner to this sweet little beast. I am from Kolkata. DIYs done till now include done -

1. Upgraded the steering wheel to the Zxi trim of the Type 1 swift with mounted controls (only volume, Seek, Mute and Mode buttons). Could have installed the Gen2 steering wheel as you did (which serves more than mine and looks better maybe) but I am a big fan of retrofit mods as much as possible. Getting the clockspring & the new steering wheel from Boodmo was easy. The pain was in sourcing the hornpad(with airbag) & the 6 pin JST connector (although it was available online at Robu.in but the website seemed to fail everytime I tried placing an order :P). Finally, I scouted the second hand spares Market in Kolkata (Mullick Bazaar) and was able to procure the hornpad(with Airbag), the SX4 wiper combination switch and the entire wiring harness from the SX4 steering rack region for just 800 Rupees. Finally, installed everything and works fine.

2. The second modification was plonking in the SX4 wiper combination switch with the additional feature of interval time control, really useful feature to have during the Kolkata monsoons.

3. Installed the Sporty Celerio Break & Clutch pedals (Maruti Genuine Accessories) and Volkswagen Sporty Accelerator cover (only one variant is available on Boodmo for Volkswagen, Skoda & Audi i guess). Procuring the Sporty Celerio break & clutch pedal covers was a task indeed as the production for the same had stopped around 2019/17 (not sure). Rang multiple dealers of Maruti Suzuki Arena & Nexa in the Kolkata region but went futile. Ultimately, rang up Maruti Suzuki Call Center, shared the part-number (available from Boodmo) of the product with the agent and requested them to let me know if any old stock is left with any of the dealers in the Kolkata region. Thankfully, there were 2 units left with 2 different dealers of Nexa, one in Kolkata(which I arguably happened to miss out during my search) and one in the suburb region. The agent was kind enough to share my inquiry with the Nexa dealer I chose close to my place, the Showroom agent called me and confirmed and finally got it installed the same day for a meagre Rs. 272 (That's Maruti for all of us ).
The Volkswagen Sporty accelerator pedal was priced at Rs. 2200 (approx) which seemed quite overpriced for me. However, my itch for this simple DIY compelled me to procure it at that hefty price tag.

DIYs Left to be completed, although the parts are procured easily.

1. Boot lamp (Rs. 96 MGP) and its wiring harness (any Maruti Suzuki harness for the boot lamp literally works as the female coupler is primarily important here, the wiring looks simple). I intend to take the connection from the Dome Lamp with the door functionality as the lamp and wiring harness also provides 3 wiring lines viz-a-viz +ve, -ve & door (grey wire).

2. Procured the Swift Zxi illuminated 12v charging socket from Boodmo which again is heftily priced at Rs. 1800 approx after discount on Boodmo. As @Ashtoncastelino mentioned, this charging socket is a Suzuki Genuine Part (imported), hence the price tag, however my inclination towards using Genuine parts again pushed me to procure it (with a big sigh though). The charger wiring is simple however I wish to connect the illumination wiring to the head unit which lights up when the parking lights are on. Need to figure out the wiring as I got an aftermarket android stereo from Woodman.
Also, the spare 12v charging socket would be installed in the boot towards the left upper side as Maruti was smart enough to cut cost by having a placeholder but not the Product . Thank you @Ashtoncastelino for this idea. Also, intending to replace the 10 amp fuse for the stock charger to 30amp just for safety as I intend to draw the spare charging connection from the stock wiring for the same. Might also install another 10 amp fuse in the new wiring for the spare 12v socket.

3. Also, procured one vanity mirror (from Boodmo; MGP)which is a retrofit for Brezza to be installed as a rear cabin light as Maruti loves to keep us in the dark at times lol. Also, procured the roof wiring harness for Dzire Gen 1. Hope to complete these DIYs soon enough and share the look, process and jugaad (If needed) of the same.

@Ashtoncastelino

I also procured a Swift (and not SX4) JDM Dashboard Monitor from UK at around Rs. 1200 INR (used). Haven't, received it yet as my sister plans to travel back next month to India. I'm sure that the clock would be a snug fit and would display the time & fuel efficiency. However, my car doesn't come with an ambient temperature sensor.
Could you guide me if my current BCM is capable to read the ambient temperature ? If yes, which pins on the BCM is to be wired ? And, if the temperature reading output is going to be present in the stock wiring coming to the Dashboard Monitor ?

Looking forward to your ideas or suggestions @Ashtoncastelino and my fellow teamBhpians

Can you please provide links of the Celerio and Volkswagen pedals from BoodMo? Will check if they can be used in the XL6 as well.

Hi Jaspreet,

Many thanks!

The celerio break pedals are not available on Boodmo anymore. Infact, the production of the same has stopped. You can scout for the old stock at the NEXA dealers with the part number from Boodmo.
Link to it -
https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-sprt...erio-50729747/

Volkswagen Accelerator Pedal Cover -
https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-6y27216479b9-28505018/

To my knowledge & observation, every Maruti-Suzuki car has standard sizing for the Break & Clutch pedals. It's worth taking a try Jaspreet!

Apologies for the late reply Draunzer21. I ordered it from Amazon way back in 2021 from a seller called Kingsway. I couldn't find the same link now maybe since the seller has changed. I'd suggest you look at MGA alternatives instead like this one

Whilst these add bonus to the looks, we also need to be cautious about the oncoming vehicles and align our lights in such a way it doesn't blind them because LED lights in reflector tend to scatter. These lights are not great in the Rains and Fogs as well due to their colour temperature.

Can you suggest anything else which needs to be looked into? All the mechanics I have shown to have no idea about from where the noise is coming from.
Hey Anuj6227, One thing which mechanics overlook is the inner tie rod and Caliper pins which causes horrible clunking noise. I would definitely suggest checking out the caliper pin noise, followed by inner tie rods inspection, while you're at it might as well check out the steering rack for any abnormal noise. This generation of Swift / Dzire/ Ritz and SX4 are plagued with this horrible steering rack design. Also to attest the caliper pin noise, you can either replace the caliper pins as a set available from MGP or also replace the caliper brackets sourced directly from TVS Girling. The caliper brackets are not separately available from MGP and the whole caliper needs to be purchased.

Hello Sourav1598 ! Thankyou for your kind words, I'm glad this thread was of good use for you. Lovely mods on the Swift and great amount of kms munched . Also congratulations in sourcing the JDM clock. Happy to say it's a direct fit for your K12M swift and it should display the FE figures. Regarding the temperature reading, the BCM already has support and wiring for it. I have reconfirmed it from another friend of mine with a 2010 K12M VXi Swift. Near the left fog lamp you can find an Ambient temperature sensor connector hanging loose, Maruti decided to just skip the sensor while keeping the entire circuit and support ready.
This is the link to the sensor :- https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-sens..._temp-6773740/

Hope this helps

Re: Azure Grey 2006 Maruti-Suzuki Swift VXi | Ownership Review

Hey Ashton,

Many thanks for the update. I'm about to replace my left headlight this week which would require to take off the front bumper. Would surely have a glance for the loose coupler hanging anywhere. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get to see the coupler as you mentioned.

Also, I'm planning to install a rear wiper on my Swift. I have noted all the parts which are required to complete the mode. Thankfully, Boodmo has every part in stock (provided I go for the new parts). Also, would be scouting the second hand market to find a backdoor of the Zxi trim, exactly the way you bumped onto one at the scrapyard (surely would help me cut down on the costs). My primary confusion is how am I going the tap power for the extra washer pump and for the rear wiper motor assembly.

I'm skeptical myself to touch the BCM on my car, if anything goes wrong, procuring a new one is very difficult even from Maruti. Moreover, I don't know any Mechanic in Kolkata who feels confident enough to play around with the wiring at the BCM.

Scanning through Mr. Parag Sachania's post on installing a rear wiper in his Ertiga VDI, I figured that there were 2 extra pins left empty on the stock wired coupler present in his Ertiga prior to the Modification. The new wiper stock which Mr. Sachania procured of the S-Cross zeta variant had the functionality of the interval timing as well as the rear wiper controls. The wiper stalks completes the ground for the functionalities as I learned from Mr. Sachania's post. Only the 2 extra pins with the positive wires need to pinned to the stock coupler. My question to you is, without tapping the BCM/Junction Box, how can I tap power for the washer motor and the wiper assembly motor? Is there any maneuver you would suggest me?

I am relatively new on this forum and do not have the access to DM I guess. Hence, requesting you to kindly guide me with the Modification over DM or here. Whichever is convenient to you.

To all the senior members and newbies (like me) out there, please feel free to share your ideas or inputs.

Best, Sourav

They too have added good output to the existing setup and its been a breeze so far. Maybe I will upgrade to the IPH M617 LED Projector Fogs later this year but for the time being these are more than enough.
Hi Ashton, I own a 2010 Swift dZire (type 1) and was wondering if the Suzuki Ciaz LED OEM front fog lamps would be a suitable fit for my car. Any info regarding compatible MGA LED front fog lamps or other alternatives for my car would be very helpful.

My 2010 Swift Dzire is LDI spec(base model). Apart from the fog lamps and OEM switch, what else would I need to purchase for the installation?

Hello Sourav, Hope you found the Ambient Temperature Sensor connector near the RH Horn. Regarding the wiring for the Rear wiper, I know that no electricians will be ready to fiddle around with the BCM like what I did. But yes the Installation is possible OEM Style provided you are able to find the same pins that the BCM connector uses. That is the whole key for this clean installation. If still you are not able to find the pins then using a Fuse tap to power the washer and Rear wiper motor is possible. Just use the Wiper Fuse in the fuse box for this then, in the ZXi it is wired via the Wiper fuse.

Happy to help if you get stuck anywhere.

Hello Mr.Sleeper, Yes the fog lamps can be installed directly but the light output is not better than Halogen setup. You would also need a fog light relay since yours is a LDi model.

Do you have any recommendations for LED fog lamp setups under Rs.5000? My main priority is increased illumination but am currently considering MGA Fog Lamp (Ciaz) as I feel it might be of good quality, thus providing some peace of mind regarding the life of the lamps. If you know any good quality Fog Lamps that can provide better illumination at around the 5k price range that would be of great help!

Hey @Adityaa4660

Thanks for reading my post. I did source the Dashboard Monitor with much enthusiasm, but to my dismay, the temperature and fuel economy readings are not showing up. Probably, the one I sourced is compatible with the 1.6l Swift sport.

However, I am planning to source it from China via a friend of mine. Hoping it works.

Re: Azure Grey 2006 Maruti-Suzuki Swift VXi | Ownership Review

Hi ,

Thanks for the suggestion on installing the rear wipers. I would certainly make the arrangements and reach out to you in a few days.

BTW, I did install the Dashboard Monitor display with the ambient temperature readings & FE. However, to my dismay, the reading are not showing up for FE & Ambient Temperature.

Could you confirm if the pin connector of the clock in stock has the BCM wiring inputs already present in the Vxi model of K12 Swift ? Also, the part number which you had shared 34600-63J03 is different from mine which is 34600-62J51.

Is it the compatibility of the Monitor with my BCM or the missing wiring connection from the BCM to your understanding?

Best, Sourav

How did you seal the headlights without the risk of damaging the plastic casing from the heat of the heat gun? Or did you make a cardboard oven with heat gun to properly heat the casing with the sealant.

I am new to this and don't want to risk damaging my headlights due to heat gun. Also, are there other alternatives that we can use to seal the headlights?

2008 Swift Dzire Instrument Cluster Upgrade

Hey guys I own a 2008 Swift LDI, it comes with a bland looking speedometer without tachometer(images attached). The VDi and ZDi models come with chrome bezels and inbuilt tachometer, can a swap be possible. There are used speedometers available online and I wanted to know if the swap is possible and what is the procedure.
