Ok, so I got this done right away in Trident Hyundai. They had the scanner and did it in around 10m. I took the test drive post the alignment and it's all good now! Thanks again for your input.

It's really good! I have had some back problems personally, so sitting in the same spot for over an hour is noticeably difficult for me, but I regularly travel for 2-3 hours in a stretch across Delhi NCR without any issues.

- The leather seats are very well cushioned with decent lumbar and thigh support.
- The gripping seats hold you in tightly reducing the stress your hip and spine have to deal with to keep you in place during turns
- They have excellent quality leather
- Seats are a looker with all black and red embossings + stitchings
- I believe these are the best seats you can find in the segment and can be compared with what cars offer you 1-2 segments above as well.

The only addition I made to the seats was to add a neck pillow that I loved from Sparco.

My one challenge though - The seat adjustment for me was a little getting used to. The first time I got into the car, the seat felt very upright and difficult to sit in. And adjusting it one tilt setting backward, felt that I was leaning back too much.

So it took some time to adjust the seats to my preference and height (5'10'') and to get used to driving the car with the seats set leaning back a bit and as low as possible (almost like a sports car), but that's how Hyundai wanted it to be I suppose.

Once you have the seat in the right position, it's super comfortable though.

Hi Akshay,

Thanks for sharing this great review and your opinion on the car.
I've been considering cars upto 18L in Gurgaon and the i20 N line is the only one which truly excited me because of it's drive and nimbleness.

While my family too has gone through a couple of Hyundais since 2000, these were all non turbo petrol manuals/ torque convertors.

The only thing keeping me back from booking the i20 N is the long-term reliability of the engine and gearbox - we keep cars at least 10 years.

What is view on the >3 year reliability? I am also worried because of the non availability of extended warranty for i20/ venue n line.

Quick Update on i20N line - Breakdown right after service

Sorry for the lack of updates, life has been quite busy and unpredictable recently, but I wanted to share this update + an incident that actually happened out of nowhere.

TLDR; The 1-year, 7000km almost new, freshly serviced i20N Line temporarily broke down in the middle of the road after minimal driving, roadside assistance couldn't figure out the reason. Taking the car to the servicing to get it "scanned". Will keep this group updated.

Background:

About 2 weeks back I had my 2nd free car servicing at Dee Emm Hyundai Gurgaon. The car has completed its 1 year and is right over 7000 Km. I am yet to make any long-distance trips in my N-line (in fact one is planned for the next week!). During servicing, according to them, the car was in top condition. I felt there might have been a very very minor wheel alignment issue (which they test-drove and denied), but I requested them to get that aligned regardless, which they did free of charge. This is my second service with them. Over and above the service, I additionally got a few things done (paid for them separately) -
  1. Extended warranty for engine and gearbox (this was pending on my part for some time)
  2. Anti-rust paint in the underbody for rust and scratch resistance

With my car feeling brand new, I happily rushed to fill its belly at my primary petrol station which I have been using ever since I got the car. I have been using xp95 throughout the previous year and am super happy with it.

Incident:

Here is where things took a turn for the worse. The following week, I was traveling to my in-laws in Faridabad from Gurgaon. The car drove like a charm all the way. However, on reaching the highway (NH19/44) after Pahadi road, out of nowhere, the car's engine stopped in the middle of the lane. I was luckily able to steer the little beast to the side of the road.

I tried starting the car again using the auto-start button. It kept trying to bring the engine back online but in vain. Reminded me of the sound our ambassador made in the good old days when my dad had to pull the choke to get it running on bad days.

I was 2 minutes away from our destination (luckily) so I got my wife to take an auto and reach home with some of our luggage, while I spent the next 10 mins calling roadside assistance (my first time ever asking for them btw).

While I was waiting for roadside assistance, I noted a few things -
  1. The gauge had the battery, the seat belt, and the oil lights turned red.
  2. The car shouldn't have overheated since I was literally driving just 35-40 minutes on a main road which I regularly travel every two weeks.
  3. The weather was hot but not that bad because it had rained recently that week. I was safely standing outside the car in sun for the next 30 mins waiting for the assistance
  4. After 15 minutes I opened the hood and checked if the engine oil was there. It was.
  5. I avoided checking the radiator fluid for obvious reasons.

When the assistance arrived 30-35 minutes later, he started his regular diagnosis and after some time asked me to try the ignition. For the first few tries it didn't turn on, but on the 4th or 5th try, it half-heartedly turned on. Since I was 2 minutes away from home, I requested the guy to follow me on his two-wheeler to the location so we could continue this in a "safer" location. After reaching home, parking in the shade, and drinking some cold water we both got into the root cause analysis.

He was kind enough to walk me through his step-by-step process and diagnosis, which was inconclusive. His final recommendation - take the car to the service center and get it "scanned". If there is a deeper issue with electronics they would be able to detect it.

Call:

With that, he took his leave and I immediately called Mr P from Dee Emm Hyundai who was my service manager during the last visit. After few times of trying to call him and a few numbers, I got through to a random number which someone else picked up. I requested them to bring Mr. P on call and told them what had gone wrong. Of course, he was apologetic the only thing he offered me was the number for roadside assistance which I didn't need.

I was furious. Just to share some context around this - after the service, I have received around 4-5 follow-ups from Dee Emm Hyundai Gurgaon to rate them at "10 out of 10", with the usual sweet talk. But, when a customer is actually having issues right after servicing, they don't really bother.

It's now been a week since Mr. P promised to "call me back asap" after checking internally.

Conclusion:

Unfortunately, I had some personal health issues this week to follow up on last week. The car seems to be running fine now and so am I. But I am being extra careful not to drive "us" too much.

Today though I have escalated this to Dee Emm Hyundai customer care, Hyundai customer car, and am posting this here so I can keep the community here informed and request some advice from the more experienced BHPians.

My case to them is - "How can a brand new car, right after second servicing, just break down after minimal driving. At least help me diagnose why this even happened?". My goal is to get to the bottom of this, understand the root cause, and ensure that my car is in a safe condition to drive for the upcoming trip that I am making with my family next week. Their attitude of "ab toh chal rahi hai" or "ho jata hai sometimes", doesn't work for me.

None of this changes the love I have for this car. Will share my side of the updates as they come in. Appreciate advice and tips from the veterans here.

The car is awesome, but I was not aware that extended warranty is not available for venue/i20 NLine? Actually, I have recently purchased it (just last week)!

For some reason when we bought the car this is what we were told. But we got it soon after and you should too - check with the dealership front office.

Hi Akshay sorry to hear about this update. I actually read your review word-by-word 6 months ago and picked up the N-line. This excellent review of yours helped us pull the trigger on this special variant.

I am no expert by any means but my two bits
  • I completed my 1 month/ First service at Dee Emm too. I can't put my finger on the exact reason, but it was a bit underwhelming. I will go back to and stick with Professional Hyundai going forward. For my previous car - Professional Hyundai was fairly proactive on issue diagnosis and helpful with non standard items (outside of standard service offerings). For eg- had an issue with brake pedal feel & condenser in my earlier Gi10 and was quite happy with the support received.
  • Ideally a bad review or rating warrants a follow up visit and a diagnosis/scan from their side. I also have a hunch something in the service knocked a wire/hose/clamp since car was running fine before service. Unfortunately the Hyundai folks - across Sales and Service will beg you for a perfect experience rating but unfortunately do not know how to respond to any feedback which is less than 10/10.
  • For fuel I have been filling up XP95 from Janta Station near Guru Dronacharya metro station. Touch wood all good so far. Although there is a well documented issue of this car's fuel pump giving up for a certain batch of cars.- though I don't believe this is the case with yours

Hope this is sorted for you at the earliest. Do keep this thread updated. Looking forward to hearing back about your first road trip with the N-line

Cheers,
Promit

Re: Hyundai i20 N Line | Ownership Review | 2 months & 1246 km

UPDATE: The Dee Emm Hyundai, Gurgaon service center has changed the fuel pump claiming the quality of fuel was the issue. The scan of the car came out ok, all params looked good.

However, no one mentioned anything about this manufacturing defect. Seems like they are keeping it hush-hush. So glad that folks from TeamBHP are documenting this and talking about it.

Wish I had read about this issue earlier!

Hi Promit, first off, thank you for your kind words! I hope my ownership review was helpful and that you are enjoying your N-Line! Looking forward to reading about your experience with the car as well!!

Secondly, thank you for mentioning this fuel pump issue. I would have never known if you didn't mention it! Found a good solid thread on this just now on TeamBHP forum as well. It seems this was the issue, to begin with, at least according to the service center.

You are right. They are just hiding behind "fuel quality". I expected better from Hyundai/KIA. Did they charge you for the pump?

Nope, but that might be because I had extended warranty?

It is definitely available, I have bought the maximum extended coverage for my i20 Nline bought in April 2023 owing to dct relatability concerns in the long run.

I highly doubt it. Your extended warranty would kick in from 37th month onwards. It’s just Hyundai slyly dealing with failures as and when they occur rather than on a recall/proactive basis. Do check the last few pages of the i20 N line thread too. Quite a few bhpians have been stranded recently due to this fuel pump issue. Btw, I understand it was fixed for free but what is the cost of a fuel pump?

That’s sad to hear, yea I have been reading about this. There should be more awareness brought to this issue. This is where media should kick in!

Regarding the cost of the fuel pump, it’s going to be around 3-3.5k inclusive of everything, as my bill indicates below.

Re: Hyundai i20 N Line | Ownership Review | 2 months & 1246 km

Dear Akshay,

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. The fuel pump replacement seems like a rite of passage for us i20 N Line owners. If you check the official review thread, you'll find a lot of us have had this issue.

I'm glad you were able to get the fuel pump replacement free of charge. That is the normal solution for this case. In fact, by your description of the issue I already knew that it would be diagnosed as fuel pump failure even before you posted the update.

Wish Hyundai were doing more and calling for a proper recall instead of letting these i20s break down all over the place. It's a shame because I'd picked Hyundai for It's reliability, but I might need to look elsewhere for my next car.

Regards,
Pepega
