Nice review. Always eager to read your updates. Please post a review on the new tyres. I am in the 'tyre upgrade situation' in my altroz diesel. I have also zeroed in on 195/60R16 continental UC6. Your experience would be very helpful in buying.

The tyre condition worsened and odo was at 55k already. So I changed the tyres to UC6 195/60R16. It cost 8.2k per piece at Sundar tyres, Madurai. Travelled back to Chennai from Madurai. The difference was visible and I liked it. Thanks for your suggestions. If not, I wouldn't have gone for UC6.

Sorry brother, I was a bit busy and missed this. Glad you like the UC6. It's a nice tyre and the 60 profile does improve the plushness of ride over bad roads.

60,000 km Service

I did the 45000 km service at 444xx km. I had a weightlifting injury in mid November which led me to be in bedrest for 3 weeks. Naturally, Altroz usage had come down totally. The car has run less than 1000 km in last 40 days.

Odo is at 59,300 km. I sent the car for 60,000 km service today.

Engine Oil, Coolant (Tata recommends coolant change at 60,000 km), Brake fluid and oil filter were replaced. Cabin air filter was cleaned. Wheel alignment and balancing was also done. Brake cleaning was done too. Total damage to the wallet was INR 10,176.

While washing the car last time, I noticed the alloy wheel central cap of front RHS wheel had gone missing. Replaced it today during the service.

The car is as good as it was new. No issues to report

I have a good news and a bad news to report.

Bad news is that my safari storme was involved in a minor accident - a Govt bus rear ended it while moving from a signal stop. More details to be given in my Storme ownership thread once the car is back from repairs. No injuries to anyone.

Good news is that I decided to fill the vacant spot left after selling one of my beater cars last year, - the kwid 1.0, with a small but safe car. More so after the storme accident. Dad has been using the Celerio. I decided to retain celerio as pure city beater car and buy a new small car for dad. Booked a Tata Punch in Orange shade. Delivery will be around Christmas.

See you all until next update.

Hi, I have Altroz XT petrol as a strictly highway cruiser. I often travel with 5 people in car, everyone is little heavier in my family so with 5 people I am concerned that if i upgrade to 195/60 R16, the body panel will touch the tyres under full load. Is it a valid concern or nothing of this sort will happen ?

195/60 won't be a problem at all. I have loaded the car fully and taken it over some big speed bumps, never had an issue.

The car was delivered on 4th January and has completed 500 km already

Adventure Rhythm variant, which was the most vfm variant, and more than that, it has 15 inchers instead of 16. I specifically wanted 15 inchers for the better ride quality over bad roads.

Re: Prassy's 1st Small Tata | 2021 Altroz XZ+ 1.5L Diesel | Ownership Review | EDIT: 2 yrs/58k km up

Congratulations Prassanna,

Lovely colour must say, a good competition to the downtown red on the Altroz.

The roof wrapped in black and a good pair of 15 inch alloys would further improve it's looks, which is already like a harrier junior.

It is great to see someone associated with the tata brand such as yourself. You have seen TAMO evolve from your estate and sumo days to now the punch and the altroz. A humble suggestion that you talk about it when you pen down the ownership report of the punch.

Safe motoring to you and your father

Cheers
Cliff

65,000 km Update

First, let me apologise for neglecting this thread for the last 6 months. I penned down Punch review and was busy with work that I haven't updated the Altroz diesel ownership thread.

Prassy's 1st Small Tata | 2021 Altroz XZ+ 1.5L Diesel | Ownership Review | EDIT: 2 yrs/65k km update-20240611_131256.jpg

The above 2 pics were shot by friend and BHPian @VW2010.

The last 6 months have been the most inactive period for altroz in the 2.5 years of Ownership. I have driven just 6000 km in the last 7 months! Partly due to the Annular tear/ disc issues in my lower back that i used storme mostly, and partly due to the new entrant to the garage - Punch.

I realised I am not doing justice to that workhorse of a diesel engine and started to put it to good use since May. It has been driven 1800 km last month. But the months earlier, it barely touched 4 digits on monthly usage.

You can see the odometer graph fall short in 2024

The car has clocked 65,000 km and it is running as good as Day 1.

For the first time in altroz ownership, I had to get it serviced due to service interval (6 months) getting completed before odo interval (7500 km). I also noticed that the car took longer than usual to crank while starting and the wipers were worn out.

Sent the car to Kaveri Garage for the service at 63,000 km. General check up was done. Battery was replaced, as were the wipers. Total damage to wallet was 9.3k.

Next update will be after the 70,000 km milestone. Storme has completed 80,000 km and Celerio has completed 20,000 km. Punch has just done 4000 km.

Re: Prassy's 1st Small Tata | 2021 Altroz XZ+ 1.5L Diesel | Ownership Review | EDIT: 2 yrs/65k km up

Lorry owner's view of this little rocket. Thanks, Prassy for allowing me to drive this. The last manual car I drove was a Jetta in 2020. A quick summary of Altroz

- Rock solid behavior
- Baby Jetta, probably toddler Jetta in terms of driving feel
- Excellent steering and maneuverability
- The availability of power in all gears
- Suspension is not soft and is definitely on the stiffer side which makes it very stable filtering between cars at good speeds.
- Easily crosses 3-digit speeds and there is no feeling of delay in experiencing that power
- Ergonomics is great for drivers and passengers. Ingress was not as bad as the Jetta which was low and too sporty a seat
- The brakes are good enough.
- Clutch was not heavy and easier to handle
- Gear slotted well but can't generalize as this could be because of how Prassy maintains and drives that car.

Cons:-
- Engine grunt aka noise inside the cabin
- The lack of a 6-speed gearbox. This car deserves a 6-speed transmission. You know the car can do more that cannot upshift anymore.

I cannot call out any cons in that short drive but can only say it has motivated me to pick some manual gear box and sell one of the AT in hand. And bang they announce the 6-speed MT Petrol.

Lovely car maintained well by a gentle giant. I have driven a polo earlier as well but this Atlroz felt far more confident inspiring and planted to drive around.

Thank you brother for your impressive observations from a 30 minute highway drive, while I was having a blast flooring the XUV7OO AWD diesel. That story is for another day.

Altroz is one underrated car when it comes to driving dynamics. I will blame Tata for giving the sluggish 1.2L n/a in the altroz (which makes up for 90% alrroz sales). The altroz diesel is one brilliant package which only those who have driven it know.

As you rightly pointed out, the engine NVH can be better. Oh, how I miss the refined cabin of my Ciaz DDIS200. The altroz definitely deserves the 1.5L turbo diesel mill in the nexon's 115PS 260Nm tune with 6 speed MT.

I am glad they are atleast selling the 120 PS/ 170Nm 1.2L turbo petrol with 6 speed MT as Racer variant now.
If you liked Altroz diesel(I know you do), you will like the Altroz Racer too. Probably, you can exchange your Endy 3.0 with this little hatch.

I just got a message from Kaveri Tata trichy that Altroz Racer test drive car has arrived. I will do a test drive and will let everyone know how it is.
