Hi Shalabh.
If I were you, I wouldn't take that warranty.
I know it flies in the face of conventional wisdom on here, but at 1.4 lakhs for 2 years, I don't think it's worth it. The extra warranty is certainly welcome, but there is no chance in hell that 1.4 lakh worth of issues will pop up in the next 2 years. At most, you'll have a few niggles, which is normal for a European car (think sensors, fuel pumps, etc.). Park that money aside, and my gut feel is it'll cover your servicing and "warranty repairs" over the next 2 years, and you'll still be left with some money in hand. Speaking of keeping things close at hand, have a fantastic FNG's number handy. It'll come in great use.
I think in the absence of owning a Volvo, the best indicator is that of people that have owned one. And on here, none are more definitive in that regard than V Narayan,
who owned an XC60 for 9 years and 100k kilometers (Volvo XC60, D5 Summum AWD. EDIT: Sold at 9-years and 1,00,000 kms!). In fact, he was so happy with his ownership that he went back and bought a C40 Recharge. So that's a solid indicator of reliability. Mind you, he stuck to the service schedule to the hilt. If you do that with most cars, they'll treat you well. As with most things in life, what you give is what you get returned.
That said,
Consumer Reports doesn't rate Volvo all that highly for reliability. They peg them at 20th overall. BMW and even Audi ranks higher (17th and 15th respectively). No prizes for guessing that both Lexus and Toyota are in the top 3. That doesn't mean the same holds true in the Indian context though, even if it is indicative.
They highlighted one of the main issues with the 2022 and newer Volvo's with a mild-hybrid powertain (like the B4), which was a "
12V Critical Charging Fault" issue.
I know this is a Volvo thread, and some might throw Swedish meatballs at me, but why not look at a BMW? In my experience, they're very reliable, and equally priced as Volvo's when it comes to service and OEM parts. Maybe an X3?
If you're smitten by the XC40, check it thoroughly at the official workshop and then pull the trigger. But like I said at the outset, I wouldn't plump for the warranty personally. I'm confident it'll sail through the next 2 years without you needing much of that 1.4 lakhs for part replacements.
