Re: Ownership Review | My 2021 VW Polo Comfortline Automatic | Blue Dynamite

Mileage update.

Volkswagen claims this 1.0 TSI engine is powerful and efficient. I agree whole heartedly! Here's what the MID showed the fuel efficiency as after a fairly spirited run on Mumbai's empty highways tonight -

I think my decision to fill 95 octane petrol only is definitely helping. This was with AC switched on the whole time.

Overall the car is running well with no issues. Driving is fairly limited as of now and I look forward to opportunities to get the car to stretch it's legs.

Already thinking about some cosmetic updates. A blackened roof wrap is on my mind followed by changing the seat upholstery.

6 Months update

So I've completed 6 fuss-free months with the car and it's been a hoot to drive. A good time to update this thread, I thought!
Given the remote working situation and the generally limited time spent out, I've not really driven the car a lot - so I make it a point to take it out for long night drives whenever possible. The Lapiz Blue kind of transforms into a different and darker shade under night lights.
Take a look -

I also got around to getting the roof and the ORVMs wrapped in black -

I have detailed my experience in this thread here - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/mumba...ml#post5180756 (Car Wraps: The Wrap Shop (Mulund, Mumbai))

A couple of trips on the Mumbai Pune Highway and many many drives on the Freeway, express highways and the Sea Link have made me appreciate this little car a lot!

The engine has a dual characteristic - Push it hard and it will rev like nobody's business and will leave most other vehicles behind in a snap. On the other hand, drive it liesurely and it will happily stay around 2K RPM and return fantastic fuel efficiency. See this from last night's drive -

I got 20+ kilometers to the liter on the Mumbai Pune Express way when returning from Pune.

Thinking about what else I could do with the car, I took it to the drive-in rooftop theater in December (before Covid cases started showing crazy numbers again). The novelty factor is good, but would prefer watching movies the usual way

Another favorite haunt of mine is the Bandra Worli Sea Link. Here's a picture of the sea link lit up around new year's time.

Last week, I took the car to Autbahn VW service center for the complimentary 6 month check-up. VW does a 40 point check and the car gets a nice wash too. I also went for the 2 year extended warranty. Given the prices of some of the major components and the cheap extended warranty, it's a no brainer! While I don't plan to do any major mods to the car, I will definitely be getting a paddle shifter equipped multi-functional steering wheel. Hope they don't fuss too much about that for any warranty issues.

I've been filling up IOCL's XP95 exclusively in the car and it seems to have made a lot of difference in terms of engine refinement and efficiency too. A 4 Rupee differential at rates that are already so high makes the XP95 a practical choice to go for.

The car is running great overall - no squeaks, no rattles and no complains. I am a happy Polo owner

1 year update!

The car completes 1 year! Amidst a difficult year personally and lot of work commitmments, it seems like 365 days with the car just flew by. As expected, given my other commitments and work from home being the norm, the car has run very less. I've covered just shy of 5000 kilometers on the Polo. I just got it back from the 1 year service and apart from the usual, got the underbody engine guard installed. BHPian Fluidicjoy's thread was super useful and I just had to share the part number with the service center. On the official review thread I see that quite a few people have gotten it installed. It's a must have in my opinion!

Poor photo quality from the SA's camera, but you get the idea from this before & after pic.

The car has been running well, no complaints, no niggles. It is super fun to drive - whether it is darting through traffic or stretching its legs on the highway, the Polo does both equally well. I can't stress on how good the 1.0 L TSI engine is in this pocket sized car!

On the comfortline variant, these alloys do look nice. I think the folks at VW group agree because they have carried over this exact design to the Virtus too (non GT)
Here it is with an elder sibling, showing off the alloys -

My favorite angle to admire the car probably is this -

I had also got the roof wrapped in black around 8 months back and happy to report that it is staying on quite well despite rain, dirt, dust and one particularly amusing incidence with a dog and a cat fighting on top of my car's roof! (story for another day)
Here's a birds-eye view from a relative's house -

On the Pune-Mumbai expressway, I stopped at a food court and parked next to the VW Taigun -

In many ways, it's a symbolic picture because with the Polo officially discountinued in India, it is passing on the baton to the next set of cars from Volkwagen/Skoda. Although they are good cars, I doubt they will come close to the raw engaging fun that the Polo / Rapid provided! Overall it has been a good year with the car with some really fun long drives to places around Mumbai. I'm enjoying driving the Polo more than I thought I would I had also underestimated the rear bench. If passengers are not too tall, 4 people can easily travel in the car for a longer duration! I'm continuing with XP95 petrol only and seeing real good fuel efficiency (one needs to drive non-aggressively for that - not easy with this engine)

Next set of upgrades - steering wheel swap to a multi-functional wheel with paddle shifters and RCD340G radio !

Congratulations on the anniversary, buddy Indeed the car brings an immense pleasure even if it is a short spin Happy mile munching.

BTW I have a question on the underbody cover: You had to inform the SA well in advance, or was it in the stock? Any idea how to check if there is an oil leak in the future?

I had to call them and reserve it, they had one last unit left. Better to call and book it in advance. If they don't have it they'll order it for you.

Yes the ability to immediately see an oil leak goes away - it's a trade off!
