That's nice to know. If the Tiguan Allspace comes with the Adaptive cruise, emergency braking, lane warning, parking assist etc, wouldn't that already make it 'Autonomous level 1', which the MG Gloster claims to be the first car to have them in India?

Re: My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep

Congratulation and thanks for the detailed review! I have a few additional questions because I am also looking into a similar segment.
  1. You have hinted in parts, but how would you compare this to your X1? Both in terms of driving pleasure and the overall experience.
  2. If someone doesn't really need those 3rd row of seats, would you still recommend the Tiguan at this price point? Say over the X1 again.

Super review and congratulations! Time to hit the highways with this machine
I only hope the VW technicians are as fond and knowledgeable about this car as you are!

Re: My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep

Lovely thread Kalyan, quite exhaustive and detailed review with amazing pictures. Went through all the points with great interest. I think the all space is a interesting proposition in this segment and often understated. Loved the black alloys.

Wishing you thousands of miles and eventful trips on your new ride. Drive Safe...

Re: My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep

Congratulations on the new car. Great review. Very detailed.
I remember reading few posts of yours on the Tiguan all space. Even I was seriously considering this car. I think we were both in the market around the same time. Test drove it multiple times and was very impressed. It ticked all boxes, except like you have mentioned - uncertain fuel efficiency and the VW after sales. I was ok with the non-usable third row as the idea was never to use it as a seven sweater. However, I finally decided against it and went with the 3 GT. Not because of any negatives in the all space. The main reason for that decision was the realisation that my idea for wanting to buy an SUV was not because of need, but influenced by what everyone else prefers nowadays. So thought better to go with a sedan, which is what I prefer to drive. With the space it offers, the 3 GT was preferred over the regular 3 series. I still think that the all space is overall an excellent product.
Congratulations once again.

Re: My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep

An excellent and detailed review, felt like I was reading an official review!

Media Tiguan Allspaces don’t don’t seem to have the lower black plastic cladding? Any reason for this or is it do with exterior colour, haven’t seen a white Allspace for any media drive but other colours like the orange, grey and blue have it. Has VW done this specifically for the white exterior?

Re: My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep

Man, what a car and what pictures ! It looks so good in that white colour with all those subtle body lines. You can see the quality of every piece of the car in pics. When there is not much to read, I just open Skoda or VW review threads just to look at the pics.

These cars have so many features, I am not sure you will realise if one of them stops working since you wouldn't be using them frequently

Re: My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep

Beautiful review of probably the most understated SUV in Indian market. I wish you many years of trouble-free and adventurous ownership with this beautifully engineered vehicle.
One thing i noted is that you specified that your vehicle is manufactured in Mexico. But when i decoded the VIN of my Tiguan AS, it showed that vehicle is manufactured in Germany as the starting digit of the VIN is "W". Kind of strange that VW is sourcing the vehicle from different countries.

Thanks for the good words Sreesh.

I am certain that 95% of the times, I am going to use this as a 5 seater only. My family comprises of 3 adults and 1 7 years old. The most baggage we are going to have is what say the airlines allow us to check-in for the folks mentioned which are roughly 60-70 kgs. While I haven't done this run yet, I am confident this will not pose many problems or affect the performance adversely. But, yes, if there are 7 passengers and suitable baggage, it might affect certain dynamics like the pick-up, thrust, FE, etc. In my opinion, it shouldn't be drastic.

Thanks, Eshan. My first pick was a colour called 'Pyrite Silver' but it was not available with the dealer. Silver being light coloured in nature and with Black alloys would also accentuate the car design well, I think.

Yes, I have already seen that thread, thanks. I also checked out the rear AC vent caps but AliExpress/ Alibaba was not taking orders from India and I believe now the apps are even banned in India. I will seek alternate options to source those accessories.

I usually change my first set of tyres since when they are anywhere between 30-36 months old. My car's tyres seem to be from Week 35 of 2019. So, I was casually looking for similarly sized in the Hyderabad market. I found a Bridgestone (not sure on the particular variant) for around 15k apiece. I did not delve deeper into the manufacturing month of the tyres as I was not serious at that time. I am apprehensive as you mentioned we might all end up with only one option if this tyre import stalemate continues.

Thanks for the good words, Guna. As fluidicjoy answered the other questions I am skipping those. This car does not come with ACC. I am yet to find out if it has the equipment and merely disabled or if they stripped down the radar as-well. The logo upfront is the one that accommodates the Radar, if you notice.

Here is the pic for the Paddle shifter. Apologies I could not capture it from the right angle/ clearly and hence it's not part of the review. It is the right size and well-articulated for our fingers to be able to operate it comfortably.

No Sir, this car does not have the ACC, I am afraid. I am following your thread with utmost interest to see if this can be done.

The car has:
1. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
2. Front Assist - Advance Warning/ Urgent warning/ Automatic braking/ Braking intervention/ City emergency braking/ Distance warning
3. Lane Assist - Ability to hold the car within well-demarcated lanes when on speeds > 65 kmph
4. Regular Cruise Control
5. Speed Limiter
The same car in Europe has these additional features which are not in the Indian version:
1. ACC
2. Traffic Jam Assist
3. Blind spot monitor
4. Semi-automatic vehicle control in a Medical emergency
5. Lane change/ Side assist
6. Pedestrian monitoring/ crossing alerts

And I think the primary reason for these features to have been disabled is because it is illegal to use the Lidar based Radar in India at the moment. The car has a camera inbuilt into the windscreen which assists with lane assist and front assist but by itself, it is not sufficient to correctly/ accurately assist with much deeper functions as the above. Here's the camera integrated to the front windscreen:

My X1 was from 2012, it was a CBU too, with Rear-wheel drive and Hydraulic steering. I would say the part quality say of the interiors or the exteriors are on par with the car I had. Driving pleasure, a rear-wheel-drive X1, any day, eyes closed. Also, X1 has a much better-tuned steering wheel. And the front:rear weight ratio was very close to the most ideal 50:50 ratio on that car.

But, you should note that today the X1 has an FWD with a Servotronic EPS and isn't much fun as earlier. I too was contemplating a Petrol X1 (on paper) but the extra boot (700 litres) was important for me. I am not going to use the 3rd row of seats at all. The FE on X1 is always going to be better, even in the petrol one. You should TD both the cars, at least twice each and decide.

Thanks for the good words.

So, the first few Allspaces imported to the country during the Auto Expo times had the body-coloured cladding and bumpers. But, that's limited to those first few cars. Their India site https://www.volkswagen.co.in/en/mode...-allspace.html also showcases the one with the body-coloured cladding in the first image but if you see any of the videos or the official colour options picker at the bottom, all colours are similar with the black cladding. I have seen at least five colour options live in Hyderabad and all are the same whether Habanero Orange, Ruby Red, Black Pearl, Pure White, Planitum Grey. And hence the quest to get that part painted in white like that in Europe.

The starting digit of my car's VIN is also W, but here is what I found about the VINs. I am 100% positive that my car was manufactured at Puebla Plant in Mexico. When I had done the pre-PDI check, the car was at the dealer stockyard and there was this big sticker pasted to the windscreen probably for customs which read Made in Puebla.

Very good and informative review.

As per VW manual:

ACC detects driving situations using a radar sensor at the front of the vehicle. The range of the radar sensor is up to approximately 120 m (around 400 ft).

Same radar (behind VW logo) is used for Front Assist.

As I am driving T Roc and it is having Pedestrian Monitoring. It will work below 65 Km/h speed.

This VW logo should be cleaned at regular intervals otherwise it may show front assist unavailable as sensor impaired.

My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep-img_7705.jpeg

As analog coolant temp is mentioned in the review. I would like to add:

The Analog Coolant temperature in the instrument cluster shows 90-degree centigrade temp after approx 2 Km ride (depends on ambient temp and whether cold start etc) but the oil temperature digital reading reaches 80-90 degree centigrade after 6-8 Km ride. Oil temperature does not show any reading if temp is below 50 degree centigrade. I usually get this 50 reading after 3 to 4 KM ride (outside temp 17-20).
I follow oil temp reading instead of analog coolant temp reading. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Analog Coolant temp showing 90 degrees whereas oil temp is 52.
My Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace - Ownership Review & Upkeep-img_7035.jpeg

After 8 Km drive temp is reached above 90 degrees.

Fantasic and thorough review Kalyan. I own a Tiguan TDI and was so happy to see the level of detail you covered (and saving me from trying to write a review ).

The body color models are with the R-line kits most likely. The car they had in the Auto Expo was with the R-line kit. They will not bring that here (even in CBU).

The Allspace is primarily sold in the USA and South America, and in massive numbers. I'm guessing it's made there and then shipped all over the world as needed. Similar to how Merc and BMW used to ship their CBUs from the USA plants.
