As Vijin has rightly mentioned, engines less than 2L do not come with SCR. Instead they are equipped with LNT. So, there isn't a need of Adblue. The same is true for XUV300. Refer to the image of the owner's manual.

Strangely though, I came across a video from Mahindra demonstrating Adblue and they used Marazzo for the same. I am not sure why they went ahead with SCR in a 1.5L car.

Thanks Vijin for the wonderful review..
I am also a proud owner of the beast W8 O Automatic.
However, I have come across a problem with the geo location function of the XUV 300.
I had a talk with the Mahindra Sewree (Mumbai) service folks and even after reinstalling the firmware part, they failed to provide a solution and declared that this function is only available in manual driven variants..
I wonder whether you have noticed or faced similar issues?

re: Mahindra XUV300 AMT Automatic W8 : Ownership Review

My Xuv300 has started developing few rattles. One was from the driver seat belt retractor and other was from the rear spoiler. Took my car to Mahindra 75 point free checkup mela forbthis , held couple of weeks ago. Mahindra service centre (Eram Thrissur) was not even aware if XUV300 comes with rear spoiler, they were pushing back this activity thinking it is an aftermarket accessory. I stood my ground ( Shouldn't have wasted customer's time explaining this Mahindra!). Took the opportunity to get 3M underbody coating as well. I was charged Rs. 2542 (10% discount they said) and given 2 year warranty/free topup.

Now, I see rattling from seat belt mount is gone. However, rear spoiler still has some rattling noise(though better), probably needs some more tightening. I called service centre today and they again parroted the rear spoiler is not standard fitting story .
Will see how it goes on Monday when I take her.

Thanks Arvind. Since I own the W8 variant and not the optional one, I dont have geo fence or find my car kind of application, just have the inbuilt mapmyindia based navigation system. Could you provide some details regarding what works and what doesnt?
By the way, I have found the chat option (human) in WithYouHamesh app pretty helpful for my queries.

Hi Vijin!
I am still exploring the options regarding what works and what doesn't in the Bluesense app. However, from the discussions with Mahindra sales manager, what I have gathered is that I need to use the next version, Bluesense Plus app for the W8 (O) variant. They are still working on my problem and the Bluesense Plus app is not working for me as of now, due to KYC issue at Mahindra end.
Will update as soon as I get a resolution from Mahindra..
One thing that I have noticed that the Headlights, although Projector Halogens, are inadequate and don't do justice to the Car!! I had even requested the dealership to provide LEDs, and was even ready to bear the additional costs, but was declined..
Would love to hear from you on this..

BRegds,
Arvind

Hey Arvind, yes the stock lamps are not that great. However, just replacing with any LED lights might not give you the results that you are looking for. There are different lumen ratings and types of LED's and you need to get the right one.
I haven't yet invested the time it requires to find the right one, probabaly will kickstart post-covid, when portals like aliexpress opens up and regular international travel resumes.

Hi Vijin..
The Mahindra dealership had said that replacing the Halogens would void the warranty.. that means waiting till the extended warranty gets over..

Took some reading, with the help of OBD2 scanner and Torque Pro app, to see how much I generally demand from the engine while doing city drives. Probably amateur for Tbhp standards , however thought of sharing it here. I also plan to do same on a highway drive.

Points noted:
  • Idling @ 842 rpm
  • Turbo boost > 1 psi @ ~870 rpm
  • On an average AMT first upshifts @ ~2200rpm, next @ 2100 rpm, 1900 rpm, 1800 rpm and so forth.
  • Highest rpm which AMT allowed to hold the gear- 2343.5 rpm
  • Point where I demanded most from my engine:
    • Engine Load(%) 93.72549438
    • Engine RPM(rpm) 1699.25
    • Horsepower 51.03277588
    • Speed (OBD)(km/h) 55
    • Torque(Nm) 213.8542938
    • Turbo Boost 22.48085022
Hey Vijin,

Could you please post data regarding the rpm when the turbo fires up and the speed at which the beast runs on a diet (is the most fuel efficient..)
During my last week trip, I noticed that fuel efficiency went up after 10 o clock when the temperatures started rising.. This was being indicated on the odo .. from 19 kmpl in the early morning to 21 kmpl in the late morning.. did you notice something similar? (I used cruise control during most of this time, with speeds ranging from 78 kmph to 85 kmph) and the engine rpm hovering around 1500 - 1600 rpm..
Do I need to increase the speed for improving the mileage? I have done 2700 kms till date..

Not exactly. It might void the warranty for headlamps alone, but they were anyways failproof apart from moisture ingress.
I replaced by low beam halogens with HIDs within the first two days and had the warranty honoured at 2 different dealerships across Kolkata and Gurgaon.

Hi Anant,
I think the warranty of the wiring of the vehicle is interlinked with the lights.. also it may create issues with the insurance claim if any..
Could you pls share the details of the HIDs installed by you? Were they replaced by MASS?

Hi Arvind,

My study wasn't focussed on fuel efficiency, need to rework for that, hence I don't have much pointers on the fuel efficiency curve at this point. The only time-related-activity I do with my travel is trying to fill fuel during the coolest part of the day (early morning is my choice). On the other hand, for question related to turbo, if you are interested, let me rephrase what I have understood:

Turbo boost > 1 psi @ ~870 rpm
This would mean from 870 rpm is the starting point when Turbo is giving some air to combustion chamber, but may be not enough to feel anything ( 0 psi boost means Turbo output is at atmospheric pressure ~14.7 PSI). 1 PSI boost is equivalent of 6% increase in power in ideal world with same amount of fuel being burned.

Intake manifold pressure : 36.98 psi (14.5 psi atmospheric + 22.48 psi Turbo boost)

Though my test were not done at extreme conditions, the max turbo boost observed was about 23 PSI , which means 1.5 bar (1.5 times atmospheric pressure) which in ideal world should translate to 150% additional power to you at same rpm/fuel being burned.

Mahindra says xuv300 has a engine specification:
Max power as 115Bhp @3750rpm
Max Torque as 300Nm@1500-2500rpm

Hence, I assume from above finding that it actually has a:
45 Bhp/ 120 Nm Naturally aspirated Diesel engine with max engine rpm ~4600
+
Turbo charger with 2.5:1 boost pressure ratio and 18-20 lb/min mass flow rate.

Don't know how close or far I am from actual values.

Contention should arise only in the case if mechanic concludes an issue with the car or a mishap is caused due to this change you have done in headlight.

re: Mahindra XUV300 AMT Automatic W8 : Ownership Review

That's a great review Vijin. I own the W8 Optional Dual Tone Petrol MT. I have to tell that the experience so far has been fantastic. The overall comfort and driving dynamics are good. I am also pleasantly surprised at the overall interior quality and premium finish. I will pen down my ownership review in a few months (maybe after 5K). Good luck!

The warranty of the entire vehicle isn't linked to the lights. The warranty for a particular aggregate will be affected only if the modification has any bearing on that aggregate. I have more than one modification related to lights and yet my electrical warranty has been honoured more than once.

Make sure you use a heavy duty relay harness to power the HIDs.
I installed 4300K 35W H7 HID from a brand called Xenolux that was available with just one dealer here in Kolkata. They have lasted close to 2 years without any issues to the HID or projectors.

I would recommend you go with 35W and not 50W HIDs as the projectors are halogen type and won't be able to take the excess heat from 50Ws

re: Mahindra XUV300 AMT Automatic W8 : Ownership Review

Is it legal to swap the headlights with LEDs for XUV300? I was going through the philips India website and there was a line saying it is the customer's responsibility to ensure that using LEDs is legal in their area.
