One additional aspect, if you don't mind sharing, is the visibility on the pricing aspect. What were the options that you got at what price marks? How it differed wrt the brands you looked at, and wrt the number of past owners, and conditions of the vehicle. And compared to that, a ball park figure on how much has the maintenance cost been on a yearly / overall basis?
Can you share that information? Would help a great deals for folks on the fence. |
Thanks for the appreciation!
Both my cars were within the 2.5L to 3.5L range, GV being 2nd owner, Outlander being 1st.
For the GV
Cars looked at: Range was between 6.5L (2.4, 2010) to 2.15L (2.0, 2007), 1st owner to 3rd owner respectively.
Maintenance: Once a year/10k kms oil change ~ Rs. 6K. Additional expense was A/C compressor (18K), front shocks (~18K) and engine mountings, tapet value and lower arm bushings (~23K) in the last 3 years. But, I have a little OCD on car noise and maintenance & end up doing pre-emptive spends since I want the peace of mind when I do go for the long drives.
For Outlander,
I saw most cars in the 5L - 8L bracket (50k kms to 130k kms), 1st to 3rd owners.
Post purchase have got the oil changed (~6k), front shockers (18K), Pulley, Vbelt, etc (48k).
Happy to help with any other information. I maintain a detailed expense book for both cars.

Would the CR-V (10) be easier to service (despite the costs)? |
I did have a look around for few CRVs (2007-2010) before closing on the GV. Did not enjoy the handling and the front console so much. The high sitting gear lever did not give me much joy from an SUV perspective. Also did find out that Honda Spares are quite expensive compared to GV. It depends on your need I guess, and ability to get it serviced.
There was a time when I was seriously contemplating a Volce XC90 V8 4.4L petrol, but dropped it for after sales concerns. Still drool over one though.

In fact if I recall correctly, I have not seen the split tailgate in any other Japanese SUV apart from the mighty Land Cruiser.
On a lighter note, maybe you can get a CR-V next time you change from the Outlander and complete the holy trio of petrol Japanese SUVs!
As a 007 fan, I must say, very well put. |
Thanks! The split tailgate then comes in the Discovery. CRV has never appealed to me, but the newer ones are looking better I feel. If the Pajero SFX came in Petrol, would have been a no-brainer.

Thanks! I see that you're based out of Mysore. I have spent a good couple of years in Mysore. Lovely town. Got my Uno's engine 'grooved' there.

People here were skeptical when I bought Mitsubishi over HONDA & TOYOTA, but now I'm glad that I see lot of Outlanders in US.
I wish you many many pleasant miles in both of your cars. Attachment 2050455 |
Lovely photo. Thanks!

Just a question. U said that the car has 96k kms but the Odometer in one of the photos shows 58500 kms. Has the odometer been tampered with or am I missing something here?
Once again a big Congratulations on acquiring such a gem of a Vehicle. Happy miles to you. |
Sorry, missed to reply to this. Firstly, thanks Sounak & secondly, good catch! You have a keen eye.
So, I saw this car over 3 weeks at the dealer. 1st time I was there, the car had clocked around 96k kms. The 3rd week I went, the meter had been moved to 56k kms. Hence, I am aware that this meter was tampered. Infact, in a lot of cars that I have seen for both purchases, almost all have had meters tampered with. But there are always a few good ones.
