Re: Super Hornet: Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT

30,000 kms Service
The 30,000 kms service was done yesterday. Total Bill came to Rs 7420/-

The other concerns reported to the SA were:
1. Left side ORVM noise and vibrations during Up/Down adjustment - They did some adjustments and it works fine
2. Judder from the brakes over 80 kmph - Brake discs were skimmed and the judder is no longer there.

After 30,000 kms & more than two & a half years of ownership, I am extremely happy with the car. No major issues or one of those infamous Maruti rattles in the car so far. The lifetime FE has further increased marginally to 16.9 kmpl with the car delivering it's all time best FE of 18.6 kmpl recently.

Windshield Replacement

There had been an unfortunate incident with the car 4 days ago. While trailing a truck at dusk, I heard the sound of what seemed like a small stone hitting the car somewhere. I thought a piece of stone or some sharp object stuck on the wheel of the truck got ejected and hit the car.

Next day morning, I noticed an impact mark on the windshield with small cracks on either side of the impact mark.

Super Hornet: Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT-glass_dent1.jpg

Super Hornet: Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT-glass_dent.jpg

Contacted United Toyota, Mangalore who arranged for a windshield and other parts needed for the windshield replacement (they were not in stock). The parts arrived two days later.

Left the car in the workshop on 12/09/22 afternoon and the SA asked me if I wished to get polishing done on the car as the paint surface had become rough due to road tar, salts, concrete dust etc, to which I agreed. The car was delivered to me on the next day.

Needless to say, the fast tag and the Third License Plate (TLP)/Windshield License plate sticker could not be re-used on the new windshield.
Super Hornet: Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT-int-sticker.jpg

They removed the Fast Tag sticker and gave it back to me to avoid any potential misuse. I asked if the TLP could be re-issued and what would be the procedure, to which they said it is not really needed and the cops do not insist on it if you tell them that the windshield was replaced. Is it true or were they being too lazy possibly because of the procedure involved in the re-issuance of that sticker? Has anyone replaced that windshield sticker so far?

Cost- Windshield Replacement
Labour- Rs 1909.24
Part Charges:
Glass Windshield - Rs 3661.54
Spacer, Windshield - Rs 2.56
Spacer, Windshield - Rs 7.68
Dam, Window Glass - Rs 464.64
Glass Sealant - Rs 1499.99
Glass Primer - Rs 224.00
Total Cost - Rs 7769.65

Polishing (3M) - Rs 1662.62

Depends on state to state. NCR had lots of challans a year ago for this fuel color sticker. everyone got it and then there was no checking. However, we can order another set of sticker online if previous one is damaged. Who knows when the challans will begin again.

This could have been easily repaired, have seen Windshield Experts repairing them to perfection.

Have got it replaced once, RM arranged it and I was billed Rs. 28 for the same.

I am in a similar situation - an almost straight line crack extending from the passenger side almost to the middle of the windscreen, roughly along the middle of the screen.

I have seen several good reviews about Windshield Experts online but unsure about the Somajiguda outlet here in Hyderabad. They said they wouldn't be able to save the FASTag or the TLP. Would you happen to know how to order a replacement TLP?

If anybody has had their vehicle windscreen replaced at a Windshield Experts outlet in Hyderabad, I'd be much obliged if you could share your feedback so I can make an informed decision.

Well, I tried it to contact Celex(the issuer of the original sticker ). But they haven't responded.

While I knew about dedicated Windshield repair shops, I was not sure how good a job they would do on it or if it could really be repaired. Apart from that impact mark on the windshield, an internal crack had developed which was spreading internally (it could not be felt either from the inside or the outside). I felt replacing the windshield would be a wiser option.

Looked in my Car's Service History File and the price list was there. OTR Price was the V CVT Model was 10.84 lakhs in January 2020. Mine is a V MT and I had opted for 4th & 5th Year Additional Warranty, 3 years B2B Insurance and a a few accessories - so that added over & above the OTR Price(Insurance amount was adjusted). If I remember correctly, the Baleno equivalent (Alpha MT) costed nearly the same.

Thank you, @skanchan. This definitely helps.

I further checked in the new car Price tracking thread, and found that Glanza top end prices increased by 33k in May 2021. Never thought that I would be checking that thread at all, but the info there definitely came of use.

Re: Super Hornet: Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT

The car met with two unfortunate accidents on consecutive days.

November 24,2022, 17:30 - One of those infamous Mangalore bus drivers brushed the car while trying beat a cop's stop signal at the Baikampady Industrial Area Junction. I slowed down, partly because on seeing the crossing traffic waiting ahead, I was expecting the cop to stop and partly because I was expecting some impatient two wheeler to dart across. To beat them both, the bus driver increased is speed and changed lanes without checking his ORVM, resulting in the car getting hit with a loud thud. I feared there would be a big dent on the bumper and severe damage on the bumper( which turned out to be much less after looking)

No matter how defensively you drive, no matter how much caution you exercise on the roads, you will always have suicidal and reckless maniacs like these bus drivers who show no respect to fellow motorists and pedestrians!!

Caught up with the bus and made him stop. The driver and the conductor refused to accept their mistake feigning ignorance that he was unaware of his bus hitting something. I showed them the scratches and yellow paint that their bus had transferred on the fender and the bumper. Most importantly, the dashcam footage was irrefutable proof of their rash driving and that the bus indeed had hit the car. They started apologizing profusely and asked to let it go as their boss would throw them out of their jobs if I created a scene.

Super Hornet: Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT-img_20221124_174900997.jpg

I let it go as I thought (at that point in time), that the damage was minimal and the paint could be rubbed off.

November 25,2022, 09:30- Near MCF, Three dogs darted across the highway. There was nothing I could do to stop in time or avoid the dogs. The first two were lucky but the third got hit by the car and did not survive, which was heartbreaking for me.

Opened the bonnet to see if there was any damage in the engine bay and underneath or if any fluids were leaking. Other than the bumper, nothing seemed to be visibly damaged. The car was running fine and A/C was working.

Spoke to United Toyota to see if I could drive straight to their workshop and drop the car for repairs. They said their Bodyshop is full and it could take 7-10 days for the car to be repaired and quoted Rs 9000 odd for only the bumper replacement(including painting & labour charges) - The fender repair charges would be extra.

I then checked withy Mr Sanjay Set of The Pitstop Carz Spa if he could accept the car for repairs. Drove straight to his facility in Mannegudda, Mangalore where he said the bumper could possibly be repaired but it would be better to replace it.

He checked with both Toyota & Maruti workshops for the cost of the bumper. Maruti quoted 2550(delivery - immediate) & Toyota 2705 (delivery - two days later). He ordered the bumper from Maruti. I also asked him to check & damage on the fender and repair it. He said the paint could be scrubbed off, but there was light dent on the wheel arch, which was visible when viewed at a certain angle, at the junction of the fender and the bumper, paint had chipped off which would lead to corrosion later. As the fender was going to be repainted, I asked him to repaint the left side of the rear bumper ( which had a big ugly scratch thanks to a reckless biker. Also chose to get the paint protection/refinement coating done.

On Monday, I was informed that the car was ready. As I was busy that day, I picked up the car the next day.

Total Bill for:
1. Repair(Bumper replacement, Fender Repair & Repaint and rear bumper quarter repaint) - Rs 12081
2. Paint protection/refinement coating - Rs 5500

The job done was simply outstanding. The paint work was almost as good as factory finish - No paint mismatch or haziness. The pictures speak for themselves how good a job was done by Mr Sanjay Shet and his crew at Carz Spa, Mannegudda, Mangalore. Having got my old Figo and i20 repaint work done from him earlier, I can confidently say that he is probably the best in Mangalore and would recommend him highly to anyone in Mangalore who wish to get a paint job done.

Well, we need to assume either side of a bus or truck are complete blind spots! At least 50% of bus & truck drivers don't see the ORVM while lane changing / moving their vehicle or even making a turn. It's always better to honk while overtaking or if you feel the stationary bus/truck is about to move. That said, we car owners are always at the receiving end paying huge amount for repairs without any fault on our end.

BTW, what is the paint protection expense for? Did they do a ppf?

40,000 kms service

3 Years/40000 kms service

27/02/2023, 12:30 PM

The car refused to start. There was just a click sound when i tried to start the car and the engine was not cranking. The car had been driven in the morning without any issues and suddenly the battery seemed dead without any previous warning signs.

As the car was under warranty and under On road assistance cover, I called up Toyota On-road assistance. The executive asked a few questions like does the car have enough fuel, when was the car driven last, was the car driven in a waterlogged area, all of which were answered and I told the executive that it look like battery issue. He noted down my location and the breakdown vehicle was at my location within an hour and the movement of the breakdown vehicle could be tracked with a link that was provided to me on SMS. The breakdown vehicle's battery was connected to the car's battery and the car started immediately. The technician said that the battery is weak and asked me to get the battery checked immediately as the car might not start again after the cable is removed and if the engine is shut down.
The old battery:

As the car's periodic service was also due, I drove to the United Toyota workshop (15 kms+). On checking the battery half an hour later, they said three cells in the battery have failed and I will have to replace the battery. The car was also not starting by now on the old battery. I asked them to replace the battery and get the service done. I opted to get interior cleaning done.

I picked up the car a day later.

Total bill ( incl battery cost + labour) - Rs 14502

Part Charges:
Amaron GO-35 Battery - Rs 3486

Steering noise

Recently, I noticed there was grinding noise coming from the steering while turning at slow (parking) speed.

As such, the steering felt fine was functioning normally with no tightness or rattling (like infamous i20 steering rattle issue that I had experienced in my 2009 i20 13-14 years ago), but the noise is irritating.

On March 12th, I took the car to United Toyota, Mangalore service center. They opened the steering column where they checked it and gave the car back claiming that the issue had been fixed. However, they asked me to report if the noise come.

Things worked fine for a week, and then the sound could be heard again.

The issue was reported to United Toyota who asked me to get the car again and leave it there for a day(March 24th). They arranged for the car's Free Pickup/Drop from home. The next day, I was told that they are changing the Clock Spring under warranty(Part cost Rs 4800 odd + labour) and that it was working fine now. But, if the sound came back, they will have to change the steering column.

It worked fine 3-4 days and again the sound has come back. I have reported it to United Toyota, Mangalore

The car is under extended warranty till February 2025 and this is where the premium you pay for the extended warranty pays you back. Had it not been for the additional 2 years warranty over and above the standard 3 years warranty, I would have been looking at a big fat bill for getting this issue fixed.

Steering Column Change under Warranty

In continuation to my previous post, the steering column was changed under warranty as the steering noise became only worse and the steering was showing a tendency to "stick" while turning.

I was told that technicians from Bangalore would come to change the steering column and I would have to leave the car at the workshop for two days. Left the car at the workshop on 26/04/23 and got the car back on 29/04/23

Had the car not been in warranty, I would have had to pay around Rs 45000 for getting the issue sorted. I had purchased two years extended warranty at the time of buying the car and it has paid dividends now (The standard 3 years warranty expired in February 2023).

Parts Replaced:
Column Assy, Steering (A-45250-WC026) - Rs 43,889.92
Bolt(A-45897-12020) - Rs 181.72

Labour Charges - Steering Column Assy- R&R - Rs 850.19

Total - Rs 44922.00

The noise is no longer there nor is the steering "sticking" while turning.

I too am facing the EXACT same issue of the sticky steering on my Granny's 2021 Glanza CVT which has done 22000 kms. Today morning I dropped the car for the PMS service and instructed the SA to update me all their findings. Since I stay in Udupi , I dropped off the car at United Toyota Udupi and hopefully they do a good job. So far they've just told they will inspect the column. Yet to see how they handle the Sticky steering column issue.

Will update further.
