Re: Blue dream to reality - My BMW X3 (G01) 20d xDrive Luxury Line

Congratulations on the blue beast! really looks smashing in this Phytonic blue! I couldn't help but notice the instrument cluster, and I must say I am surprised. The instrument cluster your car has equipped, is normally on the low end expedition model.

My brother got the same luxury line X3 20d at launch, and he got a full digital instrument cluster.

But now those clusters are also updated on the 2020 X3 to the full 12" BMW Live Cockpit Professional just like in the new 3 series, Z4 and the X5.

So the question, why did your come with the analogue-part digital dials and not either of the above two full digital dials?

EXTRACT from the Indian website specification list is also attached.

Correct observations, but there were only 2 variants. X line missed a lot of things that are present in OP car, wireless charging/ Harman.

Correct, you still have to select between sports/ comfort mode. Adaptive comes standard on 7 series.

Observation because his is the Luxury Line, which is the only model variant on sale in India with the Diesel engine.

NO, Last year there were Two Variants. OP has himself pasted the spec sheet of both. I am intrigued by this third variant that has a missing Digital instrument cluster and has most other things like Harman Audio & Wireless charging

Thank you and good observation.

However, mine also has full digital instrument cluster. It switches off completely at power down and comes back on with a nice 3d bezel effect around the round dials.

Mine is Nov'2019 assembled. BMW is known to tweak their infotainment and other knickknacks with different model year. I am not surprised- actually I like this analogue-ish finish.

Here is a video review of luxury line with same instrument cluster as mine. Watch after 8.30.

Here is Luxury Line moniker on running boards, just to be doubly sure.

I had also attached decoded VIN feature list in this PDF which also mentions the variant as Luxury Line.

xLine variant is also available but, as mentioned in my review- the price difference is too low (just about 1.5L) to consider that. Maybe due to lower sales and value proposition, BMW India has withdrawn that variant from 2020 model year? Not sure but I will check with my salesman.

Well, correct observation but last year BMW silently changed the dials, I’d gone to check the 7 LCI and also saw the 5 at the showroom
Which I already drive . So last year itself before the new dials (Live cockpit professional), BMW has started putting in these part analogue/digital dials in the 520d luxury line whereas the 530i sport line and M sport had the original full digital dials before the latter being given the New Live cockpit one now.The only connecting link I can see is maybe the diesel were given this analog/digital version ?

Mod Note - Please quote ONLY the relevant bits of a post. Quoting a full, long post inconveniences our mobile readers. Thanks!

I did some digging. This link has various designs of Instrument Console used on G01 20d.

Looks like mine has the one at the top right corner, link here. It is part analogue and part digital.

Blue dream to reality - My BMW X3 (G01) 20d xDrive Luxury Line

Congratulations for your beautiful Blue X3!

I took delivery of my G01 X3 30i Luxury line on Diwali, and have been very happy with my decision overall. Having tested all the competitors (GLC, Q5, XC60) I can say that you have made a great decision as the X3 comes out as the best all-rounder.

The Active kidney grille as mentioned in your post is also available on the 30i, I have seen and experienced the opening and shutting of the grill on my car. Just love the car, I shall post a review and pics soon thank you for motivating me to!

Aman.

Re: Blue dream to reality - My BMW X3 (G01) 20d xDrive Luxury Line

Lovely review of the lovely car. I wish they had more colors on offer, color picked up by you is good. I remember i was considering X1 M sport only coz it was available in Estoril blue color and i didnt liked the GT version as much.

Thank you. It is a BS4 diesel, 11/2019 assembled. BS6 had no year end deal.

Update: X3 quietly completed 6 months at home. Lockdown has kept us grounded, not much driving. Odo is still little short of 1500 kms. Engine is feeling smoother with every passing kilometres. Did a small DIY- routed the dashcam cable through head liner and passenger A pillar. It was posted here (How are you spending time in the lockdown?).

Re: Blue dream to reality - My BMW X3 (G01) 20d xDrive Luxury Line

With Covid cases increasing in Pune, our apartment guys decided to pressure wash the entire parking. Gave me opportunity to bring these out and soak some sun together. While UV was disinfecting, my beauties shined in their full glory

X3 is yet to be baptised with 1000 miles badge (odo stuck at 1470 kms).

PS: Did you miss WW army (Brit, Japanese, Indian, German and American)?

Re: Blue dream to reality - My BMW X3 (G01) 20d xDrive Luxury Line

Even with Mission Begin Again 2.0, it is kabhi haan kabhi na here. This has limited the use of X3 only to "essentials errands". After 6 months, it has achieved a small milestone by clocking 1500 kilometres on odometer today. This is still 500 kilometres away from official running-in mileage.

While we wait for Mission Started ... , here is a picture under street light, just after sunset.

Re: Blue dream to reality - My BMW X3 (G01) 20d xDrive Luxury Line

Quick log

Tried to mark this Independence Day with back-on-the-road-therapy for over two hours. Went off the Solapur Highway towards Malshiras. X3 was overjoyed to meet rain-soaked black-top meandering through swathes of green and mists, for the first time. My aching fingers and driver's elbow due to the months of inactivity felt relieved too.

Driving through ghats was effortless with 400 NM pushing forward. There is a slight feel of gear shift when climbing up the bend. Rain sensing wiper was mostly flawless except one occasion. We went under a big tree and few large drops of rain accumulated on leaves fell on the windscreen. This foxed the wipe sensor which suddenly increased the speed of wipe. Once again I forgot to read up about how to switch on rear wipers before starting the ride and the need was felt while returning. X3 lacks rear mud flaps. Need some jugaad to get it fixed.

120 odd kilometres of ride returned impressive mileage of 16.3 kml despite start-stop turned off and jostling through Hadapsar traffic, both ways.

Some photo-moments from therapy session attached.
