I guess this works only if the car also has electrically adjustable driver's seat. My Octavia did not have that feature and the Karoq doesn't either.

re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

Holy moly what an amazing writeup. Congratulations on the wonderful car and can you share the photos of the Triton alloys. I think if Skoda bring similar mod options in India it will really shoot up their sales.

Thank you! The gray Karoq pictured in the second post of this thread rides on the Triton alloys.

Re: Karoq: Interior - Front

Wow! This can easily be passed off as an official review! Brilliant pictures and attention to detail.

Re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

Hearty congratulations on the new ride.
The car looks lovely in white.
I really wish if we had all those gizmos and smart party tricks for cars sold in India, but I guess we'll have to wait.

Do keep the thread updated, after all it's the first Karoq on Team-BHP.

Wishing you happy and safe miles for years to come!!

Re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

Wow! thats an awesome ride. Skoda's design language is mature and timeless. Clean lines and frankly those interiors are elegant to say the least.

Is it India bound by any chance?

Got to be one of the best unofficial reviews I have ever come across on TBHP.
With superb level of details, pictures and commentary , you have set the standards real high for the others out there !
Enjoy your new ride - safe motoring !

Re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

Congrats on the car and hatsoff for such a detailed review. As I continued reading it really felt as if am reading an official review and previous responses confirms that I am not the only one to think so.

Thanks again for the write up and enjoy the many more more miles for the next three years

Cheers

Re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

Fabulous review of a wonderful car. It’s interesting how customisable the car is - letting you pick a number of features that we would not find even on the highest end models with a (by Indian standards) low power, economy engine. Just shows why our system of forcing local assembly of low volume cars is nuts. Also interesting how your company puts limits on carbon emissions rather than on the price of the car you buy. Presume you work for a European company and not the Finland office of an Indian One.

Why didn’t you consider the Tiguan - I would have thought it would be in the same price range?

Re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

That was a brilliant read, amazingly in-depth.

Have to concur with Hayek above, the level of customization offered so customers get what they want for their money, instead of being forced to pay for kit they don't want/need is amazing.

Awesome write up there. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Rest of the delivery process was smooth. I had some minimal paperwork to sign, the salesman explained the new features not found in my Octavia and we were off. The Karoq was delivered with 72km on the odo and a bit more than half tank of fuel.
I think other than the waiting part, everything else went perfect. I'm also amazed at dealers giving multiple long test drives. Something that Indian guys should implement here. Personally, I think that the whole experience of car buying plays an important role apart from the car itself.

Wishing you loads of happy kms with the car.

I guess the Karoq will be launched in India. But, if Skoda follows the same strategy as for the Kodiaq by offering just one fully loaded version, expect it to be priced around VW Tiguan. I think the reason for the Kodiaq strategy could be high demand in EU. If so, the same will be applicable for Karoq as well.

Customization is wonderful, but it goes hand-in-hand with long waiting times (even if you don't add any options). It may not work in a market like ours, except if you are Maruti . Also, not all options may be available for every variant. For eg: in the Karoq 1.0TSI engined variants, there is no personalization, drive mode selection or heated windscreen - either as standard or as an option.

I had checked out the Tiguan when I went to TD the Passat, but I never considered it seriously due to budget constraints. It is in the same price range, in fact the Tiguan Comfortline 2.0TDI DSG costs about the same as the Karoq Style 1.6TDI DSG. Generally, Skodas seem to have lower leasing rates than similarly priced VWs. Then, the 2.0TDI engine in the Tiguan means higher CO2 values and higher leasing cost (Tiguan does not have 1.6TDI versions). The Comfortline offers less standard equipment, so I needed to add more options further driving up the cost difference. It fell easily out of budget.

Manufacturers can still force customers to pay for kit you don't need by grouping options into packs. Audi is a master at this. So to add one feature you need, you may have to pay for a couple of others you don't need. For eg: the A4 has fabric seats with front seat heating as standard. But, if I want to add rear seat heating (worth nearly €500), I cannot have fabric seats anymore, but choose a higher seat upholstery option costing a couple of thousand euros.

This is quite common here. You have a chance to check out how the car will fit your needs. In my case, I took the TD Karoq home to put my suitcases in the boot and check the boot space. I also took it to a local mall for weekly grocery shopping. You can even keep the car overnight if you need and use it for a school run in the morning, for eg:.

The Triton alloys look very similar to the 16" alloys that are available on the Skoda Rapid. The ones on Rapid are called Clubber.

Skoda Rapid Clubber Alloys

Yes, you are right. Skoda India has definitely shifted from their old strategy of being a "Big bang for low bucks" manufacturer to position themselves as a premium brand.

IMO, A Tiguan equivalent pricing would definitely kill either one of them on Karoq's launch.

Re: Ownership report: Skoda Karoq 1.6 TDI Style DSG

Wonderful review! Congrats on the new car!
Waiting for Karoq to be launched in India. But if they price like Tiguan, it will be dead! Tiguan sells about 100 odd units a month, where compass sells about 1500 units a month... Hope it won't be dead on arrival, I really want to consider Karoq
