Thank you very much! Yes Annan, One of the criteria when picking the car was it should be comfortable to drive down to Pune. So that trip is definitely on the cards.

Congrats and thank you for this review.

I drove the A3 and really liked it. I think it is the best handling sedan that Audi makes. However, owning a Jetta makes me dither on what one gets for an extra 15 Lakhs apart from the nicer interior.

Shame that the 1.8 TSI is discontinued though.

Superb practical review! Wish you many years of happy motoring with both the A3 & the Octavia :-)

I briefly toyed with the A3 (1.8) when I bought my Octavia 1.8 2 years back. Liked everything but not the interior space and the attitude of the dealership.

Congratulations again!

Thank you for your kind words. I agree that Jetta vs A3, Jetta is a no brainer unless badge is the key criteria.

On paper (bragging rights) miss the 1.8TSI but off the 2600 kms I've driven, 2000 are on our highway and the 1.4 is pretty plenty for me, though truth be told would have relished the 1.8

Thank you very much! I guess I got lucky with the dealer or maybe they have worked on feedback.

Your A3 is like a sit down buffet.

Enough food for one person but no chance of going overboard like in a traditional buffet.

A 2.0 TSI is just too much(like an unlimited buffet) power and usually can never be used. And usually after a full buffet, we feel lethargic and guilty for having overeaten!

Your car hits the sweet spot. Enough power to be enjoyable almost everyday. Great fuel economy and of course, a longer life on the DSG.

As a wise old(?) man we both know once said, "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow."

Your car's colour is understated and elegant. I agree with you that the rear three quarters is the best view

The interior of course is leagues ahead of the Octavia. However, after spending 30-ish lakhs, you must feel a bit cheated that they skimped on some very important features.

But at the end of the day, you know you're buying a car from the big 3! And looks like the sales experience was absolutely worth it. Your service experience too will be pretty good going by my interaction with the Jubilant Audi guys.

Congrats once again and wish you a lot of happy and safe driving!

That same old man refused to sell me his Jetta.

Thank you for your kind words and good wishes. Can't wait for the next group drive!

Hearty Congrats Deepak! Looks like it's raining premium gremans this season. First with graaja's 330iGT and now your A3. Next TBHP meet would be awesome for sure! clap:

BTW, I am really surprised to see that the A3 does not get the organ-type A-pedal.

Thanks Deb! I don't know the reason why but i think VAG is using this pedal across the board now.

I think, of all Audi models only R8 gets an organ type pedal now. And none of the VW/ Skoda cars have it. I'm not 100% sure though.

A3 looks like a perfect balance of comfort and sportiness, quality is leagues ahead of the Skodas, with very refreshing cabin ambience.

I did drive an A3 earlier and found the ride to be floaty at high speeds and felt thay the brakes have high inertia, I guess they might have tweaked the suspension and braking in the new updated model going by your reveiw.

Nonetheless it's a great buy and effortless on highway drives, congratulations !

Could you summarise the mileage figures under different conditions and speeds to understand how the figures are in real world

Mileage has never been a criteria so for the sake of the review mentioned the figures I saw on the MID during the week commuting to office and then on the highway. That said I won't be looking at the FE figures anymore:)

Congratulations on your new car and actually two of them. A3 is a well sorted car for the segment. I'd choose this over CLA and to me this Audi looks more timeless than the Merc. There are a few shortcomings in this segment like even after spending nearly 40 odd lakhs, you don't get auto dimming mirror and stuff like that but overall this is probably the best entry level car from the big three if you are not looking for suvs.

But I somehow feel that with time you will want to drive your dad's Octy more than this. stupid:

Rare purchase based on quality over quantity :) Congratulations! In the real world, a luxurious compact car works out much better. Any reason you didn't check the usual suspects like CLA/A/V40 etc.? Like you said the sales experience and the price must have played a big role but would love to hear about other contenders.

Congrats for your new car.

I had an Audi A3 2.0 TFSI in my possession for a couple of days and had a great time in driving the machine. Dynamic mode is pretty decent if you are looking for pedal to metal sort of acceleration. The 190bhp car pulls neatly and acceleration is pretty linear. Most of time I preferred driving in Comfort mode. Urban mileage was averaging around 30-32mpg whereas my VW Golf 1.4L TSI was giving me around 40-42mpg in the same stretch of road. Handling wise I couldn't differentiate much between Golf and A3. But the car that I had, came with flat bottom steering wheel which was really classy. In UK, cruise control is very helpful as speed restrictions are present everywhere and you wouldn't wish to add points to your Driving License. With that VAG and Audi have many things in similar.
