The car is doing great, I have about 400km to go before the 10000km service. I will be switching to Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil (which I have already bought) during the service. Had a word with the Nexa service centre and they have no issues if I get my own oil.
Most of the service centres seem to be ignorant about the oil requirement for the Baleno RS, they seem to think it is the same as the regular Baleno. Make sure you specify the oil grade and quantity during your 5000km service. Attaching a section from the manual:

The Baleno RS (K10C) requires 2.9 litres of 5W30 oil. The regular Baleno (K12M) requires 3.1 litres of 0W20 oil. Very different indeed.
My Urban Blue Maruti Baleno RS-balenorsmanual322.jpg

During the first service they used Shell mineral oil. The oil level had reduced to about half since then and I had to top it up. Got a 1L bottle and used about 500ml to get the oil back to the full mark.

Got Mobil 1 3x1L bottles ready for the 10000km service. Synthetic oil should help cope with the harsh Indian conditions better than mineral / semi synthetic oil.

I went through the review you mentioned in the other forum, take a look at the bill the owner posted for his 10000km service. They filled 3.1 litres of oil instead of 2.9. I mean honestly! How ignorant are these service centres. Don't they have enough common sense to realise that a smaller engine would need less oil than a bigger one? So what happens when you fill extra oil? Read this thread from our own forum.

Regarding the oil filter, I called up the service manager and asked him if they had the filter for the RS. He promptly replied that they did and it would cost about Rs90. I asked him if he was sure and to double check the filter for the RS because it is different. He calls back 2 minutes later and told me that the filter costs Rs780 and they need to be informed a day in advance so they can get it from the warehouse.
As doc Naren mentioned, the same filter used in the regular Baleno 'works' for the RS too, but there must be some internal difference between the two. I will be using the Suzuki one during the service.

Thanks, Dr. Naren. One can rely on you to have the relevant information.

Thanks a lot. I am better prepared now with all the info you have got. One will have to be alert regarding maintenance for Baleno RS since Maruti ASS may simply club it with Baleno 1.2. I am also on the lookout for a Nexa service centre where I can go.

I should also check my oil levels regularly as you have mentioned about levels going down over time.

Did you get Mobil 1 online or in a local shop?

Yes, keep an eye on the oil levels. I guess initially there will be some oil consumption as everything is sitting in. I got the oil online from Amazon.

Faced exactly the same issue on my 10K service. Got the regular Baleno filter instead of the RS filter. Took this up with the SA but he was very confident that it was not an issue mentioning that they do the same for all the RS variants they have serviced so far. I had asked them to let me have the replaced filter. It was a DENSO make and made in China. However the part number was same as that for the RS. The difference in cost is huge 90/- versus 700 odd.

Next service is at the Nexa Service center so need to check up on this filter business. However the general drift that I got was that technicians are a little lax on this kind of differences. I had to insist a few times on the difference in the oil grade as well.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Hope you escalated the issue with Maruti. Using different grade oil is not acceptable by any means and you should not have to insist on using the correct grade.

Well since I had brought up the matter before service they did use the proper grade of oil.

Had to go on a little trip during which I crossed 10000km!

My Urban Blue Maruti Baleno RS-10000odo.jpg

The car so far
  • No major issues to report. Everything is working great, no niggles either apart from the squeaking driver seat. Miraculously that has stopped on it's own. No rattles either, things are holding up so far.
  • Driving it has been a joy, minimal gear shifts required in the city and enough punch out on the highway. The little motor never feels exhausted. Really wish it had cruise control for the highways though and the steering had a bit more feel! The car is stable at high speeds despite weighing less than a ton.
  • Practical and spacious cabin appreciated by the family members.
  • Fuel economy varies greatly based on the driving style. I usually get around 14km/l in the city and between 17-20km/l on the highway. The car has been driven 60% in the city and 40% on the highway.
  • Suspension is well balanced, although I do find it a bit stiff when driving very slowly. As you go faster it gets comfortable.
  • There have been lots of complaints on the net about maintaining the exterior. My car is still looks as good as new. I do a weekly shampoo wash and a monthly wax. When the car gets dusty during the week, I use a duster from Roger Carster.
So far so good. Hope it stays this way.

The 10000km service

Took the car to the Nexa service centre in Yelahanka, I had called them a day prior and asked them to get the oil filter. I wanted to get the service done quickly so I arrived at 9AM sharp so they could start on my car. As mentioned in my earlier post, I took my own engine oil. I was present with the car during the entire service, they had no issues except for taking pictures in the service bay. The service started at around 0930 and was done by 1145, it would have taken a bit longer but I told them not to wash the car.

Overall pretty satisfied with the experience and service. It did have a premium touch to it. Cost of the service was Rs4423 (oil+oil filter+cabin filter)

The service centre is behind the sales showroom

Drive up and park in one of the bays. LED board above the bay displays the registration number of the car.

The entrance. The service advisor arrives with a iPad and takes down all the relevant information, pictures of the exterior are taken and the job card is created. You will receive an email of the job card as well.

The service bay. There are about 7 bays, cameras in several locations and you can ask them to show you the service recording. One bay has a camera directly in front of the bay which will live stream the service to the customer. This was not operational yet. There are RFID sensors and several locations and as the car goes through the service, the information gets updated in the waiting lounge so you know exactly where your car is.

The oil filter. I asked the service advisor the difference between the filters and he told me that the metal used is stronger in the SGP filter. Due to the higher oil pressure in the RS the metal used for the filter is stronger apparently. I had a look at both filters and unfortunately could not take pictures depicting the difference. While I was taking pictures of the SGP filter, they requested me to stop. So no pictures of the service sadly.

Apart from the oil and oil filter change, they also cleaned the brake pads, topped up the brake fluid, fixed the horn (sometimes only one would work), did an ECU scan (which had no errors), cleaned the AC blower and replaced the cabin filter.

The 10000km service

Took the car to the Nexa service centre in Yelahanka,
Great to know you are enjoying the car.

The Nexa service centre looks good. I want to find one in Delhi. The one I know of is in Gurgaon, a bit far for me. I hope something comes up in East Delhi soon.

Interestingly, just the other day I was remarking to my nephew that the suspension of the car is a bit soft and I would have liked it just a bit stiffer. When there are 4 persons in the car, however, I find it just perfect, and it keeps everybody happy. Different perceptions!

Re: My Urban Blue Maruti Baleno RS

I was little surprised when you mentioned that the dealer used the oil provided by you (which is not MGP approved). But, they have clearly mentioned the same in bill. The oil which you have used is good, but Maruti can blame on this if something happens to the engine.

I too wanted to use better engine oil. The dealer told me it would be mentioned and Maruti might blame non MGP approved engine oil for any problems related to engine .

The sales advisor did tell me that it would be mentioned on the bill, he never told me that I might get blamed if something goes wrong. The way I see it, the manual only mentions the grade and quantity. It never mentions that it is compulsory to use Maruti oil (correct me if I'm wrong) . They are recommended and not compulsory. If I had used a different grade oil and something went wrong then they could blame me for the stupidity.
The oil is a major portion of the bill so they would definitely not want to lose the business and hence always insist on using their oil.
Sadly Maruti does not have a good enough synthetic 5w30 oil forcing me to get it from outside.

Correct.

But, the catch is we should use only MGP. All the engine oils used by Maruti dealer are known as Maruti Genuine Oil. Maruti has the right to deny warranty for not using MGP.

I know that this is stupid. We can get better parts / engine oil, but Maruti can blame us if anything goes wrong, even if it is not due to using after market parts

From Mobil India website (Maruti approved)
http://www.mobil1.co.in/products/pro...ti-suzuki.aspx

I had read one circular from Maruti where it mentions about Mobil 0W40. It also says that this is premium oil and can be used in both petrol and diesel cars. Just check with your dealer if this oil can be used in Baleno RS. It is officially approved for 1.3 MJD, 1.2 K series (even though the user manual mentions different grade).

Had a word with the service manager regarding this, apparently warranty issues will only occur if I had used a different grade oil. Since I used the correct oil grade he told me that there will not be any issues. Hopefully this holds in a worst case scenario.

The car looks great in that color. Great job on keeping it nice and shiny!!

The Nexa service looks properly premium. At least off the blocks it's an experience that every luxury brands in India are hard pressed to match in terms of the tech displayed and the entire process as described. Looking forward to experiencing this for the 20k service of my RS.

Did you request for the cabin filter change or was it part of the service? When I went for my 10K service it was not part of the service hence my question.

As mentioned by Leo Shashi on this post Mobil 1 0W40 (99999MS0W40-MOB)is approved.

Drive on,

Thank you glad I got this colour and not the red, which was my first choice.
They were just going to clean the cabin filter and put it back, I requested them to change it. I have noticed the air flow reduces after about 5000km as the filter gets clogged, have to keep cleaning it periodically.

The service experience is truly hi-tec and premium.
Well done Nexa, hope you keep it that way.

The oil filter has a bypass valve or pressure relief valve on the inside and it is set to open at a specific pressure. This is to ensure oil supply to the engine bypassing the filtering element in an event which may clog the filter and at the same time the relief valve should not open at a lower pressure either. The relief valve opening pressure is set for the engine and oil viscosiy it is specced for and it is always wise to use the recommended oil filter, preferably OE or OEM aftermarket.

The metal strength of the can is irrelevant because given the pressure of the oiling system even MGP filter will take it.
