Sorry for the late response. Audi was completely out of the game for the past year when they were trying to get their act together. They had even stopped production of their mainstream A4 and A3 models. Hence the RS7 Performance wasn’t even on their radar.

The newly launched RS7 has the same specs as the earlier RS7 Performance. Let’s see if we can take this forward.

Given the effect of Covid on the market, it’s going to be a long shot for Audi but anyway it isn’t a car intended to stir a hornet’s nest full of buyers.

This car has to be driven on roads that allow one to continuously maintain speeds in excess of 200 kmph as that is where one can experience the sheer comfort plus sporty handling and engineering at this performance level. The car doesn’t put you on edge at any speed, but you need to brace yourself, toggle your mind’s reflexes to full alert, get your adrenaline levels up and stop playing Anthakshari with the kids when you floor it.

As long you don’t look at the HUD or the speedometer you wouldn’t be in for the shock of knowing what this car can do without letting you know it’s doing. And that’s where this car excels, it’s ability to mask speeds is mind boggling. Audi have thrown all they can into it as it represents the pinnacle of their performance cars.

That, unfortunately, is also where this car loses out, because the real competence of this car isn’t noticeable at the speeds one can do on Indian roads as it’s been designed only as a bahnstormer that can incidentally double up as a family car. Look at it as a car that offers you a lot in terms of practicality - space, rear seat comfort, large boot and couple that with mind numbing performance.

To appreciate what you get for the money, you should be able to handle all that power. The RS7 will however forgive you if you make a few mistakes unlike some other performance cars. And that can be a major advantage when you move into this performance league.

Recently I got a chance to test RS7s 0 to 100 which without any surprise gave a staggering 4.5s with 4passengers.
