Hows your MUX doing? I spotted a black AP37 MUX on 13 Sept on Tarnaka Nallakunta stretch. I thought it could be yours. How many miles has it munched and hows the ownership coming along?

May be its not my MUX, as i am not in or around hyderabad on sep 13. MUX crossed 45K till date. Did a recent drive to the himalayas adding 7766kms to the odo taking it to 45K plus. Ownership is simple and hassle free till date, this suv is built to last, no squeaks or rattles even after taking on the toughest Himalayan terrain where temperature plummeted down to -15 degrees during the drive.

I owned a Mitsubhishi Pajero Sport 4x4 for around 2 years from 2015 jan to 2016 end. Had to sell it off for some reasons after that. Was very painful to part with the car but at that point was a must take decision. So dealt with it with a very heavy heart.

Now, I am again looking to buy a SUV. Was looking to buy a Pajero Sport again. But then happened to speak to a close friend of mine and got to know that he recently bought a MUX. He was all praises for the vehicle and insisted that I go and give it a try.

I did some pre-study, this thread too...and thanks a lot to DrBones for an excellent thread; and then test rode the top version of the vehicle today. Mostly it is a fine vehicle, but there are a few things that bothered me a lot.

a) The steering was too heavy for comfort. I just could not enjoy the ride because of that. It killed the overall manoeuvrability.

b) Engine noise inside the cabin, when you press the pedal, is too much for comfort or joy. Did not feel like driving a premium SUV. This factor also killed the fun.

c) While the chassis, suspensions etc and overall build quality might be strong, but somehow the sheet metal and doors are not heavy. So the feeling of strength and toughness I used to get from a PS, I did not get here at all.

d) My experience with the Pajero Sport was that everytime I would take it for a ride, it excited me. Despite being a big car, it had a certain sportiness in its character. You don't feel it that big. It was a quite responsive car. And it used to feel very sturdy. I don't mean - BIG. I mean STURDY! I loved driving it. But somehow, MUX did not give me that pleasure at all. It felt that I am pushing the car...and that I must drive in a straight line, because the steering did not want to move.

On good side, I liked the rear seats. they are a bit more comfortable. Functionality of both cars is almost the same except undoubtedly this is an auto 4x4, the audio is better. MuX at the price point with 6 air bags, 5 years free maintenance etc. and a few others small small things is a great value for money. But, it may be a decent car to be chauffeur driven, it aint fun to self-drive at all.

We were 3 people who test drove. Two of us test-drove while one lady just sat around and experienced the ride. I have driven a Pajero Sport extensively while the others two had never owned it. They had just accompanied me in my car on a couple of long drives earlier. After the test drive was complete, when we got down and exchanged notes, the three of us, including the simple homely lady had the same views. She obviously could not comment on the steering part, but was miffed with the cabin noise and her general reaction was - Pajero wala mazaa nahi aaya. Feel nahi hai.

This is just a relative comparison and I don't mean to say anything negative at all about MUX. It's a wonderful car overall. Every car has its DNA and every buyer needs are different. Most of today's cars are very good and there are only a marginal differences, I would say. Somehow, MUX did not appeal to us today.

Or am I wrong somewhere and missing something? Or is that having driven it for good long 2 years, i am just too used to a Pajero Sport?

I Agree with the steering and engine noise points, but nothing like i can live with it, type for me. MUX is not a fancy suv, but its a good all rounder. I like its suspension and ride quality on bad roads. Its second row of seats are really good. Its been 49500kms till date, still no squeaks or rattles from the body, build quality is very good. MUX is build to last, and 20K engine oil change makes this suv an overland expedition ready vehicle. All I can say is, its a no non-sense, reliable, tough, built to last vehicle. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Its your hard earned money you are putting down on a vehicle, Have a look at the new fortuner or endevour also before taking the call.

To add to drbones comments, I too test drove the Fortuner/Endeavour/MUX extensively on the same day over terrible roads and I felt that I would put my money on an MUX.



But at that time I wasn't happy with not having the extra airbags and also having a dated powertrain compared to the global variant. Now they have addressed the airbags issue. Powertrain is still older generation when Toyota/Ford gives their latest global power train. If one is okay with a dated powertrain, then I think the MUX is the best bet of the three.

I felt that the mid seat height is similar to the previous generation Ford Endeavor, that is a bit too low and not very wide.

Current Endeavor's seat is a good 4 seater, the mid place is not as generous. Here the Fortuner scores in my books.

Mod Ansuman's some suspension component failed at an OTR session and I believe he had to wait out a bit for spare parts availability, this is where Isuzu needs to pull up its socks.

Isuzu is in the habit of introducing trusty power trains and vehicles in the market to start with and this is what impressed me when i got the MU7 AT in 2015. I got a feedback from Isuzu directly that they introduced the MU7 AT with less than 500 pieces imported as CKD till they got the MUX ready for launch to keep the market rolling.
MU7 is a 2WD RWD and has lesser torque compared to the MUX but 1000-RPM is good enough to hold in most gears to keep moving. Does anyone know the wading depth of MU7 / MUX ?

Great so they Australian's and the rest of the world get the latest *non-trusty* power train and we get a *trusty* power-train. . How sweet of them to offer trusty 5-Speed when Toyota offers the same ASIN 6-Speed as in the global spec MUX.



We can spin in any way we want, but fact is Isuzu is selling a dated power-train, discontinued in all global markets. To mean this means clearing old stock in the 3rd world.

Hi cool_dude, sorry for my laziness. Will upload my 60K service details.

60K service update.
Changed engine oil, coolant, Air filter, AC filter, Front break pads, cleaning of tyre hubs and greasing, along with recommended checks were done. Paid 18.5K including taxes.







These were my 2nd set of break pads, can't believe they lasted 40K on a heavy automatic suv. My first set lasted for 20K, but this one is unbelievable. One of my friend from hyderabad said his brake pads lasted 36K, which i did not belive. Now god knows how many will believe me. If driven properly cars and their parts can last really long. I never ride my break when in traffic, just keep changinging from D to N and vice versa, keep coasting, with gentle breaking, this helps a lot, and i am reaping the benefit while paying the bill.


Tyres will last for another 20K, so planning to change during 80K service. Isuzu is supplying the OEM bridgestone dueler HTs for 11K per tyre at the dealer, Feel that OEM tyres are good for my type of usage, until they are available with the dealer. I am planning an upgrade to Yokohama Geolanders ATs may be after crossing 75K.

Folks, what is a good price for a used 2017 MUX 4X4 AT with around 30K-40K miles on ODO? I see some listed around 18 lakhs in OLX in various cities but that seems too high. I have been looking for a used Diesel AT with 4X4 as an upgrade to my Ecosport TDI which is on its 7th year. I need something that is built to last and low in maintenance effort and cost. There are very few options available in this category:

• Fortuner AT - Astronomic pricing for a used car
• Endeavour AT - Is a good solution but very pricey and looks too long and disproportionate
• Luxury SUVs - there are good options like Audi Q3/Q5 and BMW X3 in this range, through only older cars from 2012/13 vintage with high miles. Also, expensive to maintain.
• Jeep Compass - My ideal option for Diesel 4X4 but no Diesel AT in use car market
• Duster 4X4 - Again, not AT available

I too saw that one on olx. I think about 15 should be a fair price. This is the first version which is bare bones. The next one had 6 airbags, etc...

Got 70K service done on my MUX. Service done is - Engine oil top up with 1.5lits, coolent top up, Air filter and AC filter cleaning. Surprised with isuzu service costs, it just 915/- INR. Very reasonable service costs. Till now no squeaks or rattles even after 70K of driving my MUX. 5 stars for isuzu for its Build quality, Reliability, and Service costs. With all the above mentioned qualities, planning to keep my MUX till i get spares and the vehicle keeps moving. Let me see how long, and how many kms more?
