Re: My Isuzu MU-X 4x4 Automatic

2017 4x2 AT done 270K, may be the highest run MUX in the country. Owner is the local SML Isuzu commercial trucks dealer, he swears by isuzu. He took delivery of a brand new BS4 MUX, and getting his accident MUX repaired. His 1st set of OEM bridgestone duellers lasted for 120K kms, can't believe it. This vehicle is built to last, and after hearing such stories i am convinced that my MUX will last really very long with me. I am not promoting isuzu in any way, this was the story told by my service person when i was getting my MUX 70K service done.

Doc. No doubt the MUX is a very robust, vehicle. In it's category, it is now the top selling vehicle in Australia.

However, Isuzu's progress in India is a different story all together. Setting aside the fact that it is sold with an older power train which was discontinued in most markets. They initially launched it very stripped down but cheaper than the competition. Eventually they upgraded the interiors and brought it closer to the competition.

If not for the dated power train, there would be one in my garage after the refreshed version was launched. However, I am not a big fan of manufactures who still maintain the 3rd world attitude about India. When Ford and Toyota can offer their latest products, why not Isuzu ?

Re: My Isuzu MU-X 4x4 Automatic

I never even knew of a Isuzu SUV sold in India till I saw one on the road in Chennai yesterday.

The road presence is overwhelming and it looks super buff. Googled Isuzu MUX TBHP and landed here.

Nice long term reporting Drbones.

Wonder why it never sold when it looks good, is highly competent engine and a gearbox albeit dated, wonderful suspension and low cost maintenance.

Two main reasons:

a) The segment it competes in, is dominated by the Fortuner (and to some extent the Endeavour), default choice for most buyers in a segment where one would hesitate to experiment!

b) Wafer-thin service network across India. For instance, in a sprawling metro like Bangalore, there is only one Isuzu authorized service center! Imagine the situation in tier II and tier III cities.

My 2 cents on why it did not sell. I took an extended test drive of all 3 in the segment before i chose the endeavour, my observations on the mux and why i rejected it.

1. First and most important was the AT gearbox a 5 speed unit which was not fun to drive in traffic at all compared to the endeavour or the fortuner

2. The interiors were in my opinion a bit of a drab compared to the competition

3. Has a very heavy power steering unit a hydraulic setup feels heavier then my scorpio.

Now the positives

Has a super sublime ride beats the endeavour and fortuner hands down over patchy roads, no questions asked.

Isuzu had an offer then of 5 yrs free maintenence and warranty on the mux, plus it offers a peace of mind ownership that a ford can never do period the japanese have nailed that bit be it the fortuner or isuzu they dont sell you razmatazz glitz like the euro cars or americans, they sell bulletproof products period!

Very reasonable service costs. Till now no squeaks or rattles even after 70K of driving my MUX. 5 stars for isuzu for its Build quality, Reliability, and Service costs. With all the above mentioned qualities, planning to keep my MUX till i get spares and the vehicle keeps moving. Let me see how long, and how many kms more?
This is so strange! I am considering a pre-owned 2017 4x4 MUX. Previous owner ended up spending 96k 4 months back when the ODO was little over 60k kms. I was blown away, for an Isuzu, such a huge service bill at just 60k on odo is very unlikely. When I checked the detail bill, following were the big ticket items

1. Rotor sensor
2. Joint assembly ball upper
3. Rod end ASM outer
4. Hose flex front break
5. Valve EGR
6. SENSOR SPD FRONT WHEEL
7. Cylinder ASM Brake MA

Last three items costs upwards of 25k each. Apparently, owner had complaints of breaks not working and hence this huge repair work. However, I thought MU-X came with 5 year warranty and this should have been covered?

Cant share other details like who, which dealer, location and all, as the deal is not yet through.

Please your thoughts

Re: My Isuzu MU-X 4x4 Automatic

Hey guys, I've been following drbones' MUX ownership review for a while now and I have Decided to buy one used. The one I'm looking to buy is a 2018 Facelift 4*4 variant with only 25k on it, the seller is asking for 21L, since I'm clearly biased with my itch to buy it as soon as possible, I want your help to get the right price for it and are there any specific problems with the MUX that i should look out for before buying it?

Re: My Isuzu MU-X 4x4 Automatic

2018 Variant was even better, loaded with 6 air bags, 18inch wheels and few more goodies. 25k run MU-X is like almost new I would say. Sadly, it fetches very poor resale, between 18L to 20L should be a good deal.

Specific problems, none that I am aware of, but from the one I am looking at had issues with breaks and EGR Valve conked off too early at 63k kms

Used Isuzu MU-X

Is it worth buying a used MU-X considering the car has been temporarily discontinued and was not a popular car.I saw a used 2017 model 4*4 automatic MU-X which has done under 50k kms (Asking Price - 21 lacs) and another 2017 model 4*4 automatic MU-X which has done 20k kms (Asking Price - 23 lacs) put up for sale. What do you guys think will be a fair deal for both the cars considering the above factors.I'm hoping it to be well under 20 lacs.
I want a proper 4*4 capable 7 seater SUV. My budget is under 20 lacs. You guys can suggest other cars too.
Do share your thoughts and help me make a right decision.

XUV500 and Scorpio are the two 7 seaters that come in mind under 20 Lakhs. But you need to check whether 4X4 BS6 variants are there or not for them. Apart from these 2 nothing else comes in mind within that budget. You've got options though in 5 seaters, do check out the JEEP compass.

Also, this is just my 2 cents, why go second hand when you're ready to spend that much? Stretch a little more if you could, buy the one that suits your aspirations and get absolute peace of mind. But that's just my opinion..

Re: Used Isuzu MU-X

IMO, inspite of the Isuzu name, the MU-X would be a dead end almost in terms of resale. Esp at the 20L odd price.

Apart from XUV, you could look at used Fortuners or wait for the new Scorpio which looks to have 4WD.

Re: My Isuzu MU-X 4x4 Automatic

80K scheduled service done on Feb 3rd 2021.
My Isuzu MU-X 4x4 Automatic-img_9850.jpg

No issues till now, i can say my MUX is a trouble free SUV till date. OEM bridgestone dullers Tyres need to be changed. Service advisor says i can change them at 100K, as there is still 20% thread left on them, but i prefer to change them soon to 265-65-R17Yokohama geolanders ATs.

Other than oil and filter changes, rear break pads were changed for the first time, and powersteering hose change is mentioned in the service manule, hence changed, tough its in good condition, it has been replaced with a new one. Suspension is fit and fine. INR 26,300/- is all i paid for 80K service. No complaints regarding the service costs from my perspective, felt its reasonable.

8040.pdf

Changed tyres at 81.5K to Yokohama geolanders ATs 265-65-R17 on Feb 23rd 2021. Side wall pattern og geolanders has changed, and feels much stronger than the previous ones which i had on my gypsy(BTW my gypsy will complete 10yrs and enter the glorious 2nd decade with me). There is a lot of improvement with geolanders on corners. Braking is always good with geolanders.

Hope Geolanders will last more than Bridgestone duellers( more than 80K), let me see how long will they last.

Contemplating buying used Isuzu MU-7 (2015/2016)

Hi,

I have found used Isuzu MU-7s at a reasonable price points (2015 or 2016) models. I live in Delhi so prefer <10years for diesel vehicles so that I can get 5 years before I can electrify it or send it to junkyard.

My questions:
1. Any long term ownership review around engine, maintenance, body, long term issues etc.?
2. Any service/ lack of service issues, specifically in NCR region. Is it safe to assume it is not am issue since Isuzu is investing in building network to support newly launched D-Max and MUXs?
3. What is a good kms range to look at? I'm looking at 40k-60k kms driven range for a 6-7 year old Mu-7, assuming another 8 year/ 80k life for a successful Japanese engine is given (like for Fortuners/ LCs)
4. What would be a price range to acquire for a fair condition vehicle?

Thank you in advance. Hope Tbhp comes to rescue with answers as usual
