Update on AC Filter Issue

As I had got busy with some work, my Dad called up Shyam who is the Nexa Service Head and spoke to him in detail about our experience. Today the Service Advisor who had attended to my car came home. He had come with a brand new filter - he showed the filter to me as to how it looks and then opened the AC filter that was fitted in the car and showed how much dust had already collected in the last 1,500 kms after the Service. His explanation seemed convincing. He also said Maruti has started using this filter as of now only for Baleno and Ignis. For Ciaz and S-Cross they are still using the cheaper filter as of now is what he said.

Appreciate the prompt response from Maruti/Nexa Service of Surakshaa Car Care for the concern raised

Ignis Delta AMT 10,000 KMS Update

The Ignis completed 10,000 KMS. Reached the 10K Milestone today after about 1.3 Years of Ownership.

Ignis Delta AMT @10,000 KMS

The Ignis has been serving as an excellent City runabout and my wife is also comfortable with driving the AMT now. Overall extremely satisfied with the ownership experience so far. It is extremely easy to zip through city traffic and car is extremely peppy. The AMT although not the best technology - is something that one gets used to over time.

I have diligently captured the refuelling done for the Ignis over the last 1.3 years using the Android App called "Fuelio". Below, I would like to share the fuel consumption statistics for the car over the last 1.3 years using the tankful to tankful approach.

Ignis Delta AMT - Fuel Consumption Statistics

Overall Average Fuel Economy stands at 14.02 KM/L. The car has been driven in typical Bangalore traffic conditions for 95% of the time barring some very rare highway drives. I use my other car, the Honda City for all Highway drives. And, I must add that I have been regularly using the Indian Oil Xtra Premium Petrol for the last 5,000 KMS consistently.

Touchwood!, so far there has been no issues with the AMT and I am leaning towards concluding that the Maruti's AMTs issues are more with cars where the AMT is mated to the 3 cylinder engines and the 4 cylinder ones are spared from the AMT woes

Highway Drive Update

While I usually prefer the Honda City for my highway drives, this time went with the Ignis on a highway drive from Bangalore to Hassan. I must say the vehicle has amazing amount of stability with speeds up to 120 kph. The car feels planted and one does not realize the speeds at all. The stability of the car on triple digit speeds is very confidence inspiring. The higher seating provides better comfort and I did the drive nonstop without any breaks in the middle.

I did a consistent 110 kph throughout the journey and thoroughly enjoyed the drive. The onward journey with speeds of 110 kph and AC On throughout yielded a mileage of 16.75 km/L using the tankful approach.

The Fastag came in handy as well on this route as it appeared that there are still very few cars with Fastag and hence I was able to save time on all the toll gates on the route.

Car AC Gas Recharge

The Ignis is set to complete 2 years in June 2019. Meanwhile the effectiveness of the AC had reduced drastically. So, it looked obvious that there was need for a recharge of the AC Gas.

I checked the options online and found that www.getpitstop.com offers the service as a doorstep service for Rs.999/-. Before proceeding with the online option decided to check some friendly neighborhood options and drove around searching for options. Found one close by to home.

AC Service Garage

Rithesh Car AC: 99643 16588 / 96206 09231

Stopped and checked if he can recharge the AC on the Ignis and he said he could. The initial quote was quite high and I told him that I already had an online quote for 999/- and finally we agreed to close the AC Recharge at 1,200/- all inclusive which includes AC Filter cleaning, Gas Top Up and check if for any leaks.

The Job was done well and in about 45 minutes I felt the cool air of the AC once more

Is there any leak because I have never seen the need to top up AC gas in just 2 years of usage?

15,000 kms Update
The Ignis completed 15,000 kms this month and is serving us very well. Has taken a year from the 10,000 kms mark as it is now used only within city.
Also my wife has started using it regularly for small errands and for dropping and picking up my son from school. Overall a very smooth ownership true Maruti style.

7D Mats For the Ignis
I was not happy with the stock mats of the Ignis. On the occasion of completing 15,000 kms decided to add 7D Mats to the Ignis. Here is a pictorial of the Mats. These were sourced from Delhi and costed Rs.3,730 which included Rs.430 for ground shipping from Delhi to Bangalore. Prices on Amazon.in were much higher.

Note: Coozo clearly said that they do not make 7D mats for Ignis, so these are not Coozo mats but Delhi made mats is my guess. Not too concerned with that and was not willing to spend more anyways.

The mats are a snug fit for the Ignis Automatic and has velcro to ensure they do not slip out of place.

2 Years is too early to top up AC gas. Unless there is a leak or the car is quite old (7-10 years of normal usage), there should be no need to top up AC gas.
Now that you've got it topped up, do keep a look out for any reduction in the AC cooling (it will likely recur if there indeed was a leak).

Many congrats on your Ignis. It's an underrated car from MS. We own a Delta Petrol AMT in Tinsel blue as our beater car. My choice was a Tiago, but family stood ground and went ahead with Ignis. Now I surrender. It is indeed an excellent beater car I must say. The design has really grown on us and we're able to appreciate now its mature design. No wonder this car was rated high in 2017 world car of the year. During recent rains here in TN, we underestimated the depth of a flooded subway and drove into water. We felt the depth only while wading through, yet this Ignis came out great. Had it been any other car, I'm afraid outcome would have been costly. The best part about ignis is you throw in any after market mods like bold sticker works, coloured rims, etc., it suits the car.

So far AC is working fine after the refill. Will get it checked at the ASC during the next service

I had also shortlisted the Tigao XZA but the automatic failed during my test drive and got stuck in some gear. After that bad experience, the decision to go with the Ignis became easy.

Based on my experience with Maruti service centres, I will suggest not to ask ASC folks to look at anything related to AC They aren't AC specialists, so usually just a mere mention of it in the job card will result in some charges for cleaning and or AC gas top-up without really addressing any problems related to AC functioning!

Whenever you feel there is reduced AC cooling, take it to an AC expert (based on advice here on the forum, my experience with WeCool near Garuda mall has been excellent). These guys will not blindly top up AC gas but will first identify if and where the leak is and then address it.

Re: Uptown Red Racer - The Maruti Ignis Delta 1.2L Automatic comes home

i am contemplating on buying a used Ignis AMT. ITs been almost 15 years, we have not owned a Maruti after Zen. I would want the Ignis owners to help me on the following question

Does Ignis rattle like other Maruti Suzuki cars? I have seen most Suzuki cars to start rattling in few years time due to interior plastic quality?

Re: Uptown Red Racer - The Maruti Ignis Delta 1.2L Automatic comes home

2022 Updates:

The ODO is currently very close to 18,000 kms (17960 kms). It has been a wonderful ownership journey so far. The Ignis is a great car as a city runabout or a beater car. Easy to park and easy to drive - the perfect recipe for city commutes.

Got a good deal recently on pre-owned Alloys and added Alloy Wheels a few days back to ring in the new year. Was not sure if it would fit as these alloys were from a Renault Triber. The owner had sold his Triber but retained the alloys as he had paid 24K for the Alloys. Got these at almost slightly more than half of that price. These are 15 x 5J Alloys with four Lug nuts which is a 1:1 match with Ignis OEM Spec.

Went to a Bridgestone Select outlet, they checked for 1 wheel and confirmed that the alloys would fit and I went ahead with the purchase. Here are some pics from the Alloy fitment.
