Re: Ownership Review: Mercedes-Benz GLE 250D 4MATIC

Congratulations on your newest toy. The car looks very self-assured, like it knows it can handle the rough and smooth with equal aplomb. A bit surprised by the lack of a few features in such a high end car like no navigation, no memory setting for the driver seat, no keyless go etc.

Also, no rubber mats for the rear doors, that's just unforgivable. For the life of me, I don't understand such things manufacturers do. For someone paying so much for a car, would it really hurt them to provide rubber mats all over. Didn't expect this from Merc.

Anyway, wish you a pleasant ownership experience with miles and miles of driving pleasure. Drive safe.

Hi I am a fellow GLE 250d owner. Wonderful article and agree with everything you say.

Was just curious where and how you downloaded that app

"Some additional details:
As i was fiddling around waiting for my wife to join me, i downloaded the MB app and it has the following:
Search: the app searches for the filling pumps, restuarants, service centers etc:"

Thanks

Re: Ownership Review: Mercedes-Benz GLE 250D 4MATIC

Nicely documented article. I'm also currently debating between the X5 and the GLE. Leaning more in favour of the X5 because of its looks and power. You get a 6 cyl engine for around the same pricing and much better interiors. The x5 also has airmatic suspension in the rear which gives it a much better ride. The GLE only offers this on the 350 version. Further the GLE is a facelift version of the 2012 M class and due for a complete change next year. The X5 was introduced in 2014 and recently facelifted.

Seems like a no-brainer for me. Curious to know why you picked the GLE over the X5.

Thank you and apologise for the delay in replying. When you click on internet in the media, it gives you a choice to 'download MB app'.

Thank you. i do feel that the X5 is superior to the GLE as far as ride quality, power, ruggedness is concerned. The tilt is in the safety, where the MB, at least by publicity, and also by not having any negative reports, wins over. My usage of the GLE is for our long 'wandering' trips, mostly by my wife and i, and i would like the comfort of knowing the car is a safe one.

Not that the X5 is not safe. I am sure it is. Only there have been a spate of unfortunate incidents.

Edit: The X5 is at least 8-10 lacs more expensive.

I recently got a GLS. After reading your review I feel like they are the same two cars with just different specifications. Too much common between the cars. After seeing your I think between GLE350 and GLS350 , the only difference would be the extra 2 seats and nothing more.

Re: Ownership Review: Mercedes-Benz GLE 250D 4MATIC

Hi!

Was driving down to Palakkad on Saturday and on the highway I noticed that the car was pulling towards the left as I braked. Especially noticeable at higher speeds. The cehicle was just serviced a month ago and this is her first trip since then. I have driven her locally but haven't noticed this. Is it a serious issue? This is a 2019 April manufactured model, by the way.

Thanks!

I would think this is a serious issue, probably due to uneven wear of the brake pads or liners. Get it checked up asap.

Will do that at the earliest then, thanks! Can rain cause a vehicle to pull towards a side, especially on puddles at high speeds? While the earlier issue happened when it was relatively dry, the vehicle began pulling to which ever side there was a bit of water logged when I was at speed and not necessarily while braking.

That is due to the resistance created by the pool of water. The vehicle will pull to the side where there is more resistance (more water depth). If you travel more faster then depending upon the tyre tread the car will aqua plane.

Thank you so much for the clarification!
