Fresh, as ever, fast, as ever, timeless as ever, carefree, as ever.

Forgotten, as ever. Like a pandemonium.

The question is, what should I do? It runs perfectly, works perfectly, gives everyday thrills.

The question is, what is the future?

There is no replacement, honestly, there isnt.

What a beauty! looks factory fresh not 1 day older. If you have garage space a d from the condition I am assuming you do, there's no question, you got to retain it for ever. I doubt there is another palio in India in this condition. Reflects your passion

Feeling nostalgic looking at that cabin. I wish I had never parted with my Petra 1.6 too. Fuel economics and inability to get a good mechanic in Bangalore forced me to sell it off. My later car, vento TDI 1.6 is good, driving pleasure and dynamics are no where near Petra IMHO.

A few issues I had: Low FE ~ 7 to 8 KMPL in Bangalore traffic, engine was a little hoarse after changing a few belts and engine mounts. Paint faded on bonnet.

You seem to maintain it well, have a lot of fun.

Well sir sadly there is'nt any future legally in ncr! No matter how much we love our cars and cherish them. You may retain the car for as long as you may like and keep it for local errands, apart from that no point in scrapping this beauty! And resale you wont get. Best would be to hold onto it for as long as you can without getting in trouble with the law

re: 2006 Fiat Palio 1.6 Sport: 16 years & 67,000 km up

Major update, 16 years, 67,000 kms.

I have been noticing quite a paradigm change in the automobile market in the past year or two. The problem is, cars are slowly being overtaken by carputers, with nothing left in terms of pure aura of driving pleasure. And obviously, prices rising like a nuclear bomb with instant chain reaction. The Palio was in perfect mechanical and running condition with no major issues except some cosmetic, so I was in two minds, to sell/scrap or to reregister it. I chose the latter as it was not only economically viable, but having a good Fiat FNG in Noida and access to 2 seasoned palio mechanics made my life much easier, plus of course, access to parts via different channels.

A friend pitched in and with his help, got the car reregistered in Haldwani just in the nick of time in October 2021. Post that, two services were carried out at 60,000 and 65,000 kms respecively using petronas vision 15W40 oil and OE filters and gave the car a proper inside and out stripped down restoration to bring it back to as much OE spec as possible. The Tailgate was replaced as it was corroded, and retro rraps in Delhi did a great paint job of OE Formula red. Wheels were painted in bright white and new Yokohama S drive 195/55 R15 tyres were fitted. The custom exhaust was junked and brand new OE exhaust was fitted with a slightly used end can (good as new condition). Made me realise that the car performs its best in OE stuff only.

The OE filter was replacd by BMC stock replacement air filter and whole inner floor of the car was given fresh damping by driven store. Many broken parts were replaced and all nuts and bolts were fitted as per OE catalogue, thanks to the expertise of both rafique and Khan. Rear speakers were changed to kenwood KFC-S1356, closest to thje spec the S10 came with.

Its not that the car isn't used, its used solely for outstation trips, and the aural pleasure and crazy 7400 rpm revs the 1.6 gives, I doubt any NA hatchback till date could have matched. I am running the car on XP 95 and on highways, its very efficient with 15-16 kpl. the fuel suits the engine very well and emissions too are very clean, something the NGT cannot understand for the next 100 years.

Signing off with the latest photos of the car, for which, age is just a number.

The Abarth Punto is also undergoing many mods, which will be updated once I get the car back.

re: 2006 Fiat Palio 1.6 Sport: 17 years & 76,000 km up

That looks really Cool. Red was always the best color on Palio.

After a long gap, I am seeing anyone posting any upgrade/restoration post on a Fiat Palio.

Like you said, the cars are being computerized heavily and aided. Palio is a joy to drive among all these.

I am in similar mind with my 2003 Fiat Palio GTX. I am not sure if I should sell/scrap it or restore it again. No mechanical issue at all, but there a few irritant which I am trying to get fixed.

Door Rubber seals have given up and water leaks in heavily. Trying to source it for sometime now

Headlights are another pain area. Water gets accumulated in one of the headlights and I am not able to find a used/new OE headlights.

Any lead to procure parts will be much appreciated

Regards

Such a real pleasure to see this thread and that gorgeous red Palio. A really lovely car.
It is great that you have been able to hang on to it and keep it so well.
I quite agree that nothing comes close to these older naturally aspirated engines in terms of sheer character.
Really happy that we still have some enthusiasts here who value these ‘Senior’ vehicles. They have a certain ‘Soul’ which these new fangled cars dont.

It's great to see that you kept your beauty. We were in the same dilemma in September 2021 with our 2006 Fiesta registered in Noida, and we also ended up keeping it.

Awesome pictures, I will be following this thread closely. I like how well you've maintained it, wishing you many more years of pleasurable driving.

re: 2006 Fiat Palio 1.6 Sport: 17 years & 76,000 km up

This brought back so many happy memories. The first car I ever bought was a pre-loved 1.6 GTX in "tangerine mist". She was already 7 years old when I got her and had some 55k on the clock. I was initially inclined to change the color (to red or silver) but then decided to leave it as it was, faded roof and all.
Threw in a set of Yokohamas, a K&N Extreme filter, Automech exhaust with headers, NGK plugs, some Mobil 1, Philips Rally lights and new wiper blades.
Never crossed 6.5k revs, felt unnecessary. Didn't cross 140 either, but the joy was in the way it got there! It even managed 9-10 kmpl in the city, much to the consternation of the Palio bashers.
Eventually sacrificed on the altar of matrimony, seeing how the missus refused to ride in my noisy, bumpy orange frog
I bought it for 1.25L and sold it 3+ years later for 1.20 - how's that for depreciation?

re: 2006 Fiat Palio 1.6 Sport: 17 years & 76,000 km up

Hey sidindica, great to see you here.

The lovely Formula Red colour on your cars makes me want to repaint mine. However, the stock yellow shade of mine has a charm of its own.

Lovely to see you kept the car going on with a different registration. Mine has been taken to a covered garage and will be woken up from its slumber once the rainy season here ends.

Do you carry out an oil change every 5k km? I have not been driving mine enough and have barely managed 6k km on my car since I picked it up and you helped me resolve the engine heating issues. I thought of doing the next service once the rains go away, as it has been a year or so since the last one.

Hi,

What is the process of getting the car registered in UK, I do not have a permanent address of UK but my car's RC is going to be expired soon, would appreciate if you can share some light over it.

Nice set of pictures of a well-kept car.

My Stile 1.1 2007 is up for renewal of registration (In fact it has been overdue for a couple of weeks now). The car is ready for a full-coat paint job. However intermittent summer rains have stalled the paint job for over a week now.

Hoping to get the re-registration done by next week.

Agree with you 100%. So lovely to see your car so well maintained. Doesn't look even a year old. I am glad you went with the latter option. I own a 22 year old petrol Indica which I have got re-registered twice. Still feels like a dream to drive !

I am one of them. I bought a Santro over a Fiat Palio in 2005 and still keeping it, will be sweet 17 this August. I was really keen to get Palio but finally decided to go for Santro.

Beautiful!! Is this your daily use/drive car? Or is this only used on weekends and long drives?
