Hey. Amazing review and enjoyed reading each and every line of it.

Thank you for the kind words guys! I'll try getting those photos up soon, along with the comparison with the W221 S-Class!

Congrats on your second 'S'!

Thank you! The new S really is something! MBIL has really got a winner on their hands. It's like they say, the S-Class is the only car in the world that has it's own identity, and one knows what it is even if you don't associate the brand "Mercedes" with it, and just simply say "S-Class"!

The way I understand it currently, if a CBU S350 is ordered (yes Merc dealers will accomodate your request for a CBU special order), you will receive it as an S350d. Atleast until the current CKD/SKD kits run out - which should be soon. After that they should all be S350d's and not S350 CDI's. Hope that clears the confusion!

Congratulation Saarth on your S. IMO when it comes to luxo barges it does not get better than this. Wishing you a thousands of happy and safe miles on this car !

The kind of features available on the W222 when it was announced a year and a half back were mind boggling. If I remember correctly, there is a dedicated system running on an Intel Atom processor which based on a front camera input adjusts the suspension settings dynamically. Also there was a pretty unique feature wherein this can makeout the difference between a human and an animal if they come into your path from a considerable distance. Based on this it gives different warning mechanisms. The list was endless :)

Cheers.

Thank you!

Yes, it does indeed come packed to the gills with features. However we miss out on the 'Magic Body Control' and the 'Distronic' features (that you mentioned), as it also uses a kind of radar frequency that isn't allowed on civilian vehicles in India. Therefore we get the regular 'Airmatic Suspension', which in its own right is absolutely stunning! But it sure would be fun to have the Magic Body Control features!

Hi Saarth! Congrats on buying the best car in the world! :D
The review was crisp and informative to read. Thanks for the same! The pictures are eye candies for every car enthusiast.

Well, the S-Class! Only one word to define this beauty: Elegant

The Mercedes Benz badge in vintage font looks so exotic! The interiors are so neat, clutter-free yet manage to look so beautiful. That's the beauty of a Merc.

Do keep the thread updated as reviews of cars like these are a rarity in itself and I am sure that many potential owners would be following this thread closely.

Drive Safe!

Neel

Congratulations Saarth. You cant go wrong with an S, especially this S!

I love the S in black, only second to palladium silver. The launch edition wheels make the car look so much better than with the stock wheels.

Also nice to see you finally put up a review, after years of asking us what rides to buy :p :p

I'm curious if a software coding can be used to enabled it, if I am correct the S500 is a CBU and comes with MBC but its disabled via software right? That thing could be a boon for our roads.

Thank you! I agree the palladium silver does look stunning in its own right! It was actually my first choice of colour, but I just find the black interiors too dull for this car, and thus opted for the black with Beige!

And yes, I finally got around to writing a review! My garage has been heavily influenced by the amazing advice by all of you on these forums, and I finally got the chance to give back to the forum!

I'm not sure whether the CBU S500 came with the radar. The S500 now is an SKD and comes without the radar entirely and cannot be activated through any kind of coding. Even if you special order a CBU S350 or S500 now, Mercedes won't let you spec the MBC on it.

Therefore, if I had to take a shot in the dark, I'd say the Launch Editions too came without the radar and cannot be activated through coding.

Congrats on buying on of the most beautiful car from the MB lounge.

Regarding MBC, I read in a post wherein S63 AMG that was delivered to Kolkata has all the specs including the MBC (can someone please confirm this?). If that's the case, why not in a S350 or a 500?

Hmm, well no use worrying about it now, the S Class definitely has the best ride quality in this range, but I feel MB has missed an opportunity here. It could have really set it apart. I wonder how difficult it would have been to ask the engineers to use a different frequency for radar.

Would you mind answering a bunch of questions about the car? Does it come with the adaptive lights in India which reduce glare for oncoming traffic etc.? Also does MB make any modifications for India like BMW in form of bad road underbody protection, raised suspension height?

Thank you for sharing your experience of buying the beast, and congratulations hope you many miles of comfort and fun!

Thank you!

As far as the Coupe is concerned, I highly doubt this car came with MBC, as the Indian Government will absolutely not allow radar use on civilian vehicles. It might have the front cameras and the regular Airmatic Suspension.

I'm actually not sure about the adaptive features of the headlights that you've mentioned. I have to check it out. All the other features of the headlights like the cornering assist, etc., is included as standard.

The ride height does look to be ever so slightly increased for India, but I don't have any official word on it. The entire underbody is protected, but again I'm not sure if this is India-specific. Lastly the Airmatic Suspension does come with an option to increase the ride height at the touch of a button.

WOW !!!!
The first word which came to mind after reading the lovely review that you have posted Saarth.

It is indeed luxury on wheels. Wish you many more miles of happiness with this beauty. Do keep updating the thread with your ownership experience and the comparison is also something we would be looking forward to....

Cheers,
S

That's exactly what I thought! The frequency that is being used matches with the military frequency, hence the ban.
Probably @cityvic can shed some light on the same.

MB has changed the technology of the MBC to work without radars recently and hence the coupe from Kolkata came with it.

Will that also mean Distronic+ options can now be operational? When I booked my car they weren't willing to add MBC as an option even on CBU's, maybe they'll start it from the MY16 for the India bound sedans.

Also, the Palladium Silver (Dark Silver) colour and the Eucalyptus Wood trim (which is the standard option) will be discountinued for MY16.

Nope, distronic I believe yet needs proper radar tech.

What was the ex-showroom price for a CBU S350D?

Instead of discontinuing the exterior colour they should discontinue the black interior and offer and other shade instead. Maybe a brown. Palladium silver doesn't sell because of its interior option of black, the exterior colour option is great to look at. The reason it is being discontinued is because MB internationally is stopping the colour and replacing it with a darker grey which is similar to palladium. It is the same grey that comes on the new AMG GT.

MB will wait to see what standard options come in the new 7 and add more options and colours to the MY16 model to up their game.
