Guys a quick question, especially to the ones who own a Diesel automatic verna, the facelift version.

How reliable has the car been? Any common issues? Dads elder brother looking to buy a second hand car, hence the question.

Reliability wise, the car is good. Has never left me stranded. Build quality is far superior than peers and definitely a segment benchmark, no rattles, noises, squeaks at all.

The diesel motor is a gem and a happy mile muncher.

I cannot comment on the auto box has I own a manual Verna.

I received the following message from Hyundai dealer today for my 2014 Verna CRDI:

Dear Customer, Repair Order number for your car is R201705083. Regards,

On calling them up, got to know it is something related to airbags and if the concerned part is defective, they will replace it free of cost. It will be a 20 minutes job.

Anyone else received similar communication? Is it a part of some recall?

I own a 2014 Verna petrol, and I haven't received any such communication from the dealer. I am not sure if the Verna uses Takata airbags, I reckon not, so this seems unusual.
I will call up the service centre and check if this is indeed something Hyundai is enforcing nationwide.

My 2012 first generation Verna Fluidic (2012) has been fairly reliable over the 115,000 kms. Major replacements were the clutch at 80K and aircon compressor unit at 105K. Other than the above I've had to change front brake pads every 30K.
Service costs for every 10K interval after the free service typically are between 8 - 10K inclusive of some interior / exterior cleaning. Every 30K interval the bill will vary between 10 - 14K depending on quantum of replacement parts.

If your uncle must have an autobox, I'd strongly recommend the Creta over the Verna simply for 6 speed gearbox, moreso if your uncle will use it often for highway drives. On the other hand if the car is only going to be used to the city run about, the 4 speed gearbox will more than suffice.

I own a Dec 2014 Verna SX CRDi and I have clocked 70,650 kms to date.

Only mods done are replacing OEM Halogen lights with OEM Projector lights and 35W 4300K HIDs. Rest of the car remains stock.

Reliability wise the car has been excellent. Only regular services at my local garage, one rear brake pad change at 40k kms, front brake pads change at 45k kms and a tyre change to Yokohama Earth 1 at 52k kms.

Apart from these I have had no issues with the car at all, no rattles and no squeaks whatsoever. Build quality is top notch. Stock Battery is doing great too. Engine remains great and eager to go. In other words, an absolutely brilliant mile muncher.

Coming to the automatic variant, I wouldn't know since I own a manual.

Got this MID mileage number travelling from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. No major traffic stops since my home is near the ORR. Total distance of 300 kms. Maintained speeds of 80 to 90 most of the time. Mine is a 2016, 1.4 CRDI.

How is the performance of these tyres, more particularly the noise level in comparison to stock Bridgestone B 250. I had changed to Yoko V 550 db series tyres @ 45 k, which lasted only for 30 k km. But performance was top notch.Few days back, I changed the front 2 tyres to Michelin 3 ST which are very good & seem to me as an all rounder. Can't comment on life of those though. After few more kms, I will replace to rear Yoko tyres, preferably the same as front. But still curious to know about Earth 1.

Earth 1's IMHO are an amazing set of tyres. Now the compound is slightly harder than the stock Bridgestones, but the ride seems to have improved. The car feels a little more stiff but is also very pliant. Takes bumps very smoothly.

Since I drive a lot of the same routes, I can also confirm that these tyres are also more puncture resistant than the Bridgestones.

Grip levels are excellent. Both in the dry and wet. Did try some spirited driving in the wet at night on NH48 and the car held up beautifully.

Road noise is much improved, you don't hear these tyres in the cabin above 100 like in the bridgestones.

Tread wear seems to be less than the Bridgestones too.

This mini review is from about 18k kms of using these tyres.

I am experiencing a weird rattle from the speakers at relatively high volumes with bassy music. Wasn't the case before though, has started recently. Mine's a 2014 Verna.
Has anyone else faced any rattling issues ?
Also, I wonder if the service centre guys can fix rattles. Last time I asked them to fix the horn and they didn't even do that. :Frustrati

The biggest drawback of the current OEM projector lamps is the lack of DRLs, and the OEM from the 2014 Verna, that has the DRLs, looks crude and is expensive. Has anybody investigated the straight fit replacements from autoglam? Looks cool:

Touchwood my Bridgestones haven't had a single puncture in their 17k life. Pretty happy with the tyres given by Hyundai. Much better than any of the competitors' offerings.

Hello guys, last month I was in US on a vacation and one evening there was an impromptu plan to visit Wisconsin the following day. A quick check revealed we needed a car for tomorrow. I took to Priceline and soon booked the smallest, cheapest car available on Hertz. The next day, I went to the Hertz collection point and the executive led me to their parking. 5 cars were parked in the segment I had chosen and she asked me to pick any. 4 of them were hatchbacks and the 5th was Hyundai Verna (Accent as it is called there). Without any hesitation, I picked the Accent. It was Hyundai Accent SE Sedan. Took it home and then began my comparison while others got ready.

This car had the same 1.6 ltr gasoline engine, but it produced 136 HP and 166 NM of torque. Both higher than the Indian counterpart. It also had a 6 speed auto transmission.

Coming to features, below is the comparison:

It had Manual AC -vs- Climate control in my Verna
Forget diamond cut alloys, it doesn't even have alloy wheels.
175 R15 tires compared to the 16 inch wheels we get here.
No projector headlamps.
No steering mounted controls.
No keyless go and push button start.
No sliding armrest with storage. It has a single armrest for driver attached to driver's seat.
No auto lights and wiper.
Seemed like the Indian Verna was better loaded than Accent in US but then came the safety features.
Mine is Verna S(O), and it has only 2 airbags. Accent had 6.
It had traction control system, something not found in the Verna.
It had vehicle stability management and active front head restraints.
Finally, it had TPMS.

Drove it close to 450 miles that single day and was very happy with the engine + gearbox combo. Being the smallest car in our entourage did not mean that I was lagging behind.

Off topic, Hyundai US is doing a great job. Spotted numerous Sonatas and Elantras all over US.
