You do realise that your post has left a lot of fellow Civic owners drooling . Especially the lines where you talk about torque and highway behaviour being similar to a big-engine'd German sedan.

Congrats on transforming a humble family sedan into a BEAST! Classic wolf in sheep's clothing (sans body kit and all). The Civic is a superb platform to own for a long time; it's got the fundamentals in place (quality, space, steering etc.) and just mind-blowing after-market support.

I'm convinced about the gains of a turbo, but not much about the long-term reliability. Please keep updating this thread as it will help a lot of us make a decision.

May we suggest a run with a stage 1 Laura TSI to get a feel of real world difference and how well is all that power being put down.

Thanks GTO. I was constantly following your Civic thread, hoping that you'd go in for a turbo setup and I'd go turbo based on your review and experience. I guess I could not wait anymore . The tables have turned eh?

I don't want any body kit etc. as I really like the sleeper look, so except for the front bumper, headlights and wheels everything else is stock. The reliability factor is constantly at the back of my mind, and the car was setup also very conservatively with only around 7-7.5psi of boost, thus the bhp hasn't gone up as much as the torque. Have got hold of the Greddy full auto turbo timer which will help the engine and turbo remain healthy, by allowing a proper cool down. I am also the sole driver of this car and that should also see her offer a more reliable experience as no fooling around will happen. This thread will be constantly updated and I intend to keep this car for a fairly long time, given how much I invested, so am keeping my fingers crossed for a good, long term experience.

I will be more than willing to do this. The only people I know in Chennai have Vernas, Civics, Citys etc. If you or anyone here can let me know of anyone with a stage 1 laura tsi or even a stock laura tsi I'll be glad to meet up and compare the two.

Buddy, so happy to see you rolling in your Civic. Thankfully all has been sorted and you've got yourself a M5 paying pennies.

Must be an awesome experience to floor it on open stretches. Would love to hear more from this bull.

Thanks Arup. While comparing this with an M5 will be somewhat of a stretch , it is an awesomely fast car, and definitely something I have never experienced before. I really don't have much of a yardstick to compare this with now, as I have never driven a turbo-petrol before.

Congrats on your fabulous car!! The research, patience and perceverance have yielded results and you have ended up with one of the best rides in India. The car looks fab and your description of the drive has left me drooling! Just imagining what you might be feeling while driving has left me so much in serious want of experiencing something like that.

Also your alloys looks amazing man. I love those 5-spoke black alloys with silver/chrome outlines. Looks very sporty plus very classy! Best part about your modifications is that they look 'JUST RIGHT'. Not too much not too less.

Plz Plz Plz upload more pics. Not everyday do we get to see such amazing cars!!

Cheers!!

P.S. - I hope I can find similar alloys for my Brio. I was imagining something similar for my car and then saw these on yours!! I was like thats exactly what i want!! I can't wait. These alloys on my white Brio will be just - Droooooool. At least for me!!

Wow. Thanks for the compliments man!! I'm sure my Civic turned a deeper shade of pink/purple, blushing away

I'm a huge fan of smart 5 spoke designs and finalized on this design very quickly and easily. I'm sure you will find these in 14" for your Brio. I am more or less done with the exterior modifications and nothing else is going to change in how she looks on the outside.

Will take a bunch of pics with my camera and upload them over the weekend.

Wow Bhuvan! What a transformation your Civic has undergone. People who drool at your car at traffic signals will get a shock when the light turns green. I will stay glued to this thread to know more about your 'turbo-ed' Civic and your experiences with it. All the investments that you have put in will not betray you. So, stop worrying on the reliability part and enjoy your ride to the fullest. Kudos again, to your effort!

Hey folks.
Have driven the car around a fair bit in city traffic. It is very easy to drive, and very drive able. The heavy clutch is the only hindrance in stop and go traffic. I ended up stalling the car 2-3 times, but its only a matter of getting used to it. Fuel efficiency in this stop and go city traffic seems to have dropped a bit. Expecting around 9-10km/l when compared to the earlier 11km/l. I think this car loves the highway as it easily gave me 12+km/l on the Bangalore - Chennai run.

The brakes + tyre combo is very good. One or two sudden stops due to a biker swerving and absolutely no drama.

My Freddy full auto turbo timer + the type-r gear knob will reach me in a weeks time.
Was going to do a timing run but a small issue has cropped up. Post 3500rpm in gears 2,3,4 the car jerks as if the fuel supply has been cutoff for a fraction of a second and then continues revving. Can't be because of the humidity in Chennai when compared to Bangalore. Maybe one of the vaccum hoses has come loose. Its not such a big issue in the city as 3000rpm and all that torque is more than enough so I am planning to get it fixed next week as I'm off on work + heading to Hyd for the weekend, where I'm sure I'm going to rev the pants off the ohc and Ritz after getting used to the surge of this civic .

Two pics attached. Enjoy

Timings

Hey folks. So I've figured out the jerking issue. It comes up on part throttle acceleration(pedal depressed between 20-50%) above 3500RPM because of the engine running lean. If the pedal is depressed between 50-100% then the engine revs freely. This happens also only in gears 2,3.

So anyway, with the engine all warmed up I did a few timing runs. GPS was not getting a good signal, and was lagging badly so I used the stopwatch method. Obviously there is a +/-5% error possibility.

The results:
1.) 20-80 in 3rd - 8.3 Seconds (Stock Civic - 12.23 seconds, vRS - 9.8 seconds)
2.) 40-80 in 4th - 10.5 Seconds (Stock Civic - 16.4 seconds, vRS - 10.8 seconds)
3.) 0-100 - 7.6ish (vRS - 8.2 seconds). Could not get a good read, plus did not want to do multiple runs as it just ruins the clutch, tyres, driveshafts.

So, it seems to be a fair bit quicker than the Laura 1.8 TSI, and should be closer to a stage 1 Laura TSI.

Oh, and the brakes are brilliant. At high speeds, a firm dab, and they shed speed like nobody's business. Loving the brakes and tyre combination.

First off, congrats on the build, and hope that you enjoy it to the fullest!!.

I had a question about the turbo, would you by any chance have the specs for the turbo? Like the compressor map and the trim etc? I'm asking this because I have a very similar turbo with me and am unable to locate any information about it on the net.

thanks!

re: Turbocharged R18 Honda Civic. EDIT: Upgraded Turbo, 0-100 in 7.1 seconds

Thanks Vikram, I did find this site most useful for my requirement. Unfortunately the turbo I have does not have the standard plate that Garrett fixes to all turbos. All i know is the embossing on the turbo reads:
M24 KTT1 A/R .43 GARRETT (on the compressor housing)
And the turbine A/R is .40
I've been told that the turbo is a GT20 type but not too sure about it. So any help is really good.

MODS: Last OT post, I will find the relevant thread. Posting here because I saw that the turbo used in this project is exactly like the one I have.
