re: 1st-gen Hyundai i20 (2008 - 2014) : Review

Just a quick update guys.

My car has completed 16k kms since July 2012. Breeze to drive and 0 issues so far. Its amazing how you discover new things in a 1.5 yrs old car. It puts a smile on my face.

Last night i was driving and my car always has the Day / Night mirror ON. But i noticed a new thing, the moment i slot the car in REVERSE, the DAY/LIGHT thing goes OFF. The green light under neath remains ON, but the effect disappears.

I am pretty sure its not a glitch or anything. Other i20 owners should try and confirm. Shall try and take a few pics / short video of the same and post it here.

Not sure if it has been reported before.

Regards,

Has anyone upgraded the tyres of CRDI to 15" ? If yes, please post details. I am planning to go for a CRDI Asta next month and feel the 165 Ground Clearance will be very low with 5 on-board given the condition of Bangalore roads. Hence, planning to go for 15" rims and 185/70 - any suggestions?

It would be better to go to couple of service centres. There is a high chance you can spot one in service centres. Thanks.

Maharajah Red color, 1.2 petrol. Just mud flaps and floor mats as freebies.

Final OTR was 5.01 L, including total discounts of 1.2L. They exchanged their 2005 Zen LXi at the dealership.
That's not bad. I got my crdi asta last month. On road price post discounts in Mumbai was 8.6l including 3rd year warranty

Got the insurance done outside though through AIG

They also took my 2009 Swift vdi for 3.6l

Free accessories included
Art leather seats
Teflon
Visors
Mats
Mud guards

Will write an ownership report

I have never noticed this. Mine is the top-end Asta and the reverse camera comes on in the mirror when I engage reverse. I believe keeping the mirror on during reversing at night will affect the visibility since it will technically dim the reverse light when seen through the rear-view mirror. I dont see why it should remain ON.

Re: i20 fuel efficiency concerns

I own a 2010 Hyundai i20 Magna (petrol, manual). The car has completed 11000 kms; with 80% usage in city and remaining on highways.

The car is driven mostly by myself in a sedate manner while in city with AC on at all times. On highways, I drive in 90-95 km/h range. All the servicings done on time. No issues/accidents so far.

It has been a great car, except for the fuel efficiency. I am getting 10 kpl on highways (with 5 adults, AC on, measured using tank full to tank full method). Checked the same on two different trips.
I think I should update my observations and not leave people with previous impression about the car.

Immediately after the discussions on this thread, I followed up with the service station and they changed some settings and cleaned the spark plugs (don't know why that wasn't done in the regular servicing in the first place, where I had specifically mentioned FE issues).

Also, I went to a different tyre-wallah to get all tires checked and the new guy pointed a (very) small leak in rear right wheel's valve. The tire looked properly inflated and drove alright otherwise. So it may have happened that the trips where I measured FE, were driven with less than ideal tire pressure. Thankfully no damage to the rims.

I think the above two must have been the causes (no other mods/repairs done) as the car now gives 14 to 15 kmpl on highways (depending on the load) and about 13 kmpl in the city. Don't know if being very close to the "magical" 15000 kms mark has helped.

Apologies for updating so late!

Hi,

My 2010 Asta CRDI is riding on 195/55/15 tyres, had them upgraded as soon as i took delivery. Also considered 205's when i was due for a new set of tyres after completing 58,000 kms, but stuck to 195's.

I think the Asta(O) option is available only for petrol. And that has curtain airbags if I am right which should protect the rear inhabitants in case of a collision

Yes the Asta (O) CRDI 2010 model has curtain airbags covering the rear passengers.

I believe this variant was discontinued post April 2010

That means there is no hatchback currently which offers airbags for rear passengers.
Is that correct ?

A class and 1 series does provide airbags for rear passengers as far as hatchbacks are concerned
