Apart from the roof AC and arm rests, the rear wiper is also quite an important feature, specially in rainy and dusty conditions, and it cannot be retro-fitted. The fogs lamps also come in quite handy many times. So, my advice would be, if you can stretch your budget and buy the EX, go for it. You won't regret it.

The roof mounted AC should not be fitted outside, in my view as the probability of it rattling and occasionally not working are higher. I would rather go with the variant which has these features esp Roof mounted AC.

So Mayank, you suggest to go for Ex. I can extend my budget by another 1 lakh or so but can't increase it by 3 lakhs.

LX: 9.95L, on road approx 11 L
EX: 10.77L, on road approx 12.4L
VX: 12.37L , on road approx : 14.2

The price of Vx will be beyond my budget or i'll have to wait for another 5-6 months to have that kind of money. Should i wait till June/July for Vx or go for EX in Jan/Feb .

Hi Vikram,

I have heard and was under the impression that rear wipers can be fitted from the dealership directly as an after market accessory. Is this not the case?

Please wait for a while and go for the VX because
1.It has airbags which Ex lacks(Please correct me if I'm wrong)
2.Feel good factor when owning a car with features
3.A few ownership reviews will be out and you will have a better idea about the vehicle's reliability
4.If the Storme is a dud there is a good chance discounts will start pouring in.

It might be true [I have no idea], but I personally am in favour of having features like roof AC and rear wiper fitted in the factory and not at a dealer or accessory shop. As Mayank said, the fitting won't be like OEM and for warranty purposes, you will be at the mercy of the dealer.

Vikram

You sure that that is the ex-showroom in Bangalore? I guess this is the price ex-showroom delhi. I am unable to see the Bangalore price on Tata website.

Hey turbo_delight,

Looks like you are a fellow Bangy! (Bangalorean). The minimum OTR for the Storme LX in Bangalore would be 12L according to me.

Some quick math:
Lets say the ex-showroom price of the LX variant with the extra taxes in Bangalore is 9.99L (<10L).
Then OTR price = Ex-showroom * 1.155 (15.5 % Road Tax) + Insurance + Misc Expenses

So OTR = 9.99 * 1.155 + .4 (Ins) + .1 = 12.03 L

Lets say the ex-showroom price of the LX variant just tips over the 10 L barrier.
Then OTR = Ex-showroom * 1.19 (19% Road Tax) + Insurance + Misc
So OTR = 10.01 * 1.19 + .4 + .1 = 12.42 L

So you can extend the same to other variants. Hope it helps your planning!

Regards,
Abhi

No. Its ex-showroom Delhi only. In Bangalore, probably 25-30K difference will be there for which i am okay. I have made up my mind for Storme and i am surely going to buy one in the next 5-6 months, by the time the reviews are out.
Initially i was thinking of waiting for 2-3 months to get some ownership reviews and go for Ex but then probably i'll wait till June/July and go for Vx. :)

No changes have been incorporated.

Exceptional cases are there everywhere :)

But how many old Safari's got their body claddings stays in place with good fit and finish? Mostly there will be uneven gaps through out the body

Hope Tata addressed those in Storme

Mods I think those posts need to be put up up-front with todays date. Most people seem to have missed T-BHP review from media drive.

I was wondering about this part, as I read on another forum that retrofitting a rear wash/wiper at the dealer is possible, simple, and not very expensive.

Ditto for the arm rests on both front seats.

I agree that a retro-fitted roof AC has issues.

But can LX guys comment on how good the normal AC (with the backward blowers on the pillar between the front seats as well) is with regard to cooling the entire cabin, especially for those unfortunate to be in the third row section?

Firstly do you need the roof mounted ac? i/ my rear passengers never complained of ac not being efficient. though my truck has the arm rests, i somehow was not very keen on using them. is their any position/height of the arms changed in Storme?

I wont suggest accessorizing roof top ac, atleast in the warranty period.

Hi,

I want to buy the LX as it fits in my budget. Now when i compare LX with EX, the extra features in EX are :
Roof mounted Rear AC, Master light switch with fog controls,Arm rest for driver and co-driver, Rear wiper, Front fog, Rear fog lamps, B-pillar styling tape.

Now, of all these, i will miss Roof mounted Rear AC and Arm rest for driver and co-driver. Can thsese be installed from outside?
As long as these can be accessorized, i do not have a problem. But, if not, then i will have to go for EX?
Please suggest. Thanks in advance. :)

Hmm, if that's the case, then I stand corrected. Even then, the reason I am doubtful about the quality of the dealer fitting is 'cause a hole needs to be drilled in the metal portion of the hatch door for fitting the rear wiper, a widget to be fitted on the rear most edge of the roof for the water jet spray, wiring plus water hoses brought till there and a new stalk with the rear wiper rotary to be added next to the steering wheel. My guess is all this will also involve removing and putting back together internal panels / carpeting somewhere.

That's why the apprehension :)

Cheers,
Vikram

As a general rule i would wait for the money to be available to buy the variant with the features that i would need, rather than buy a lower variant and fix rest as an after market.

In this specific case if i was you i would wait till i have enough dough to take care of 3L difference and then buy the variant that i need. Alternatively if you are happy to buy the variant without Roof AC than you can buy now, but do not plan to fix roof AC as an after market.

And BTW 3/6 months is not a long long time (it will pass over soon) and by then you will have some first hand reports of the Storme as well. So all in all waiting for sometime does not look to be a bad idea to me :).

After seeing the Safari Storme , i don't still see what the USP of the Storme would be for a general car buying public. At the High end VX the price difference is too less between Storme and XUV500 and EX is close to XUV500 W6 in terms of pricing. Only people who need a proper low range gearbox might prefer Storme over XUV500

What they could have targeted is the Scorpio SLE version using the Storme LX but i don't understand why they left out airbags. Storme Lx with Airbags at say 20K more would have been a terrific value proportion when compared to the competition. Also if the extended warranty had been for two more years instead of one it would have been more encouraging.
