re: Tata Safari Storme : Test Drive and Review. More pics: pg 47

With the existing Safari already going at a deep discount to the published pricing in the website ( almost 1 lakh in cash benefits on the Lx variant ), I wonder why Storme would be launched at a premium to the existing Safari's listed price.

at best they should stick to the existing Safari's pricing and retain the Lx variant of the existing Safari at the price the market is paying for it ( around 7.25 Lakhs )

This is assuming they want volumes and not keep the Storme as a niche vehicle like the Aria

Wow ! Where you got the 1 L discount?

I am planning to book LX/EX however waiting for Storme if it comes in my budget. I had inquire at many places in Pune there is only 30 K cash discount and 30 K exchange bonus, nothing more than that they are offering.

Also they said Storme will be sold with 50/60 K more with existing Safari and VX model from existing Safari is discontinued already.

Thanks,
Vishal

Safari has arrived in concorde motors stockyard and only one has come.....but its TATA motors training vehicle and will be moved to UB city for training. They are not allowing anybody to see the vehicle, even the sales guys have not seen it.

Launch might be on 24th or 27th this month. If Tata goes crazy then they might move it to next month also.

From what I've heard, the launch is supposed to happen in phases like it was mentioned a few posts before. So, the launch in the South is definitely going to be later, so no surprises there.

All the multiple sightings in Mumbai, Ahmadabad and now Bangalore at dealerships, point to September launch before the start of festive season.

Tata has explicitly said sometime during March that this vehicle will be released during first half of next fiscal year and September happens to be end of first half. Below is the link I had posted a while back in other storme thread.

re: Tata Safari Storme : Test Drive and Review. More pics: pg 47

i find it absolutely baffling that Tata has left this much confusion on the eve of what is going to be a very important launch for the company.
The Aria came, flopped and moved on; i mean Aria's are being used at the Delhi Domestic airport as crew vehicles. So much for a lifestyle crossover that they were aiming at.

India is a service economy with a growing consumer base, its high time companies stopped treating the consumer like dirt. As a potential consumer i would like to get some concrete information on the product which is gonna cost me over a million rupees. smart well informed people like Behram on this forum are kind enough to keep us updated but unfortunately the dealers have no idea. and this is something i've seen across the board - Tata, M&M, Renault. it happened during the XUV, Thar and Duster launches.

probably as BHP members we hold the dealers and sales executives to a higher expectation but even then basic info like launch dates and availability have to be consistent to all dealers. this is where i feel companies are letting us down, badly !

As for the Storme i personally feel if Tata tries to position it directly against the XUV it will fail. though facelifted its basically the same old Safari structure which the consumer has been seeing for 6+ years. similarily the engine is carry forward from 2.2 dicor model, so net-net the consumers isnt getting a brand new car. hence pricing it against the XUV will not fly, Tata should leave the Aria to fight a (losing) battle with the XUV and position the Safari Storme below the XUV. this is the sweet spot on the pricing matrix that Tata should exploit.

i've always been a Safari basher but am seriously looking forward to the Storme.

cheers

K

I think there is already a mention of pricing to be below XUV and above the existing Safari lineup. The question is whether it will sell even at that pricing when the Scorpio which is tried and tested and far more reliable sells at a similar price.
In my view, its a uphill task for TATA to even unsettle the Scorpio with the Storme. Wish to add that I personally am also eagerly awaiting the Storme launch and if its priced on par with the existing Scorpio line up and turns out to be as "improved" as its made out to be, I am booking one asap

^^^ @narayan Safari is already priced around Rs.50K over the Scorpio. Do you think they can sell the Storme at Scorpio prices when they could not sell the Safari?

CARDEEP

firstly I dont think Safari is 50k more than Scorpio. For eg Safari Lx and Scorpio Lx in Chennai are approx 8.3-8.4 lakhs ex showroom.

i agree in the next variant, the difference emerges ---Sle is about 9.6 whereas Ex is about 10

but please note that Safari has always been sold with a decent discount which as of now is reported to be about Rs60-80k .

hence effectively the Safari Lx is 60 k cheaper than the Scorpio Lx ( where when i checked last week they were willing to offer 5k discount ! ) This is despite the fact that the Safari is more on features.

Now coming to pt on at what price the Storme can sell in comparison to the Scorpio. I feel, if the Storme is indeed as good/improved as its touted to be, pricing it at the current Safari levels would be reasonable. i mean, it can sell at that price without a discount

anything above this is asking for trouble. lets not even bring the XUV into the comparison because i feel the XUV is in a different league + the STORME ( no matter how improved it is ) has to carry the baggage of the old Safari

********STRANGELY THE SCORPIO WEB PAGE GIVING THE PRICES IS NOW SHOWING AS " UNDER CONSTRUCTION " --- IS THERE A DOWNWARD REVISION IN PRICING IN LIGHT OF THE DUSTER EFFECT ?******************

Thank you for your reply @narayan. I was referring to the non-discounted prices of Safari BTW.

Your post also refers to XUV, which could be competitor, but the ladder frame chassis equipped Storme has to prove its mettle in the city & highways to the monocoque chassis of the XUV. Off the road, Storme will definitely have an edge. But, reliability & longevity is a concern with both the vehicles as compared to much costlier competition. So, lot depends on how Storme is priced initially, & how much an owner spends in terms of money & otherwise in the long-run.

I feel we may be going of we discuss more about the XUVs & Scorpios here.

Just had a small conversation with the Concorde motors sales executive, he confirmed the launch in a week or two. Will get a call once the date is confirmed. Will book one and see how the review goes. Hope I dont get a long waiting list like the XUV.

Just came to know from a TATA showroom staff that:
  • Few dealers in Delhi have got the display models in their showrooms but nobody has access to it.
  • Expected launch day is First Navratra (Tuesday, the 16th of October)
  • Training of the sales staff going on (then launch should be in September itself?)
  • Expected launch price of base model is 10.50 Lacs
This is as per my discussion of a sales person in one of the showroom.

Cheers!

that launch price is going to be a big dampener !

am not sure the larger car buying market wants to pay such a high premium for the Storme despite all the touted upgrades. lets wait and watch.
