Adding pictures to the first post itself Hi Folks,
I got Nano Pearl White LX 2012 - surprise gift for parents !
Before I start with details, my sincere thanks to all the team-bhp members for their knowledgeable posts which has helped me immensely while acquiring Nano.
How it started,
Throughout 2011 I had heard my father say some time or the other that Nano sure looks good etc. On road he used to point out whenever a Nano passed by.With my father too looking keen to have one, decided one day on an impulse to get one for him as a surprise and my journey started by visits to the various team bhp discussion forums on Nano....
Pune Dealer and Demo,
I went to Pandit Automotive at Tilak Road for a quick demo and a test ride. Staff was courteous and welcomed me warmly. Nano counter was at the far left corner of the showroom but buzzing with activity. Mayur - one of the sales rep. gave me the demo. Model was a pearl white Nano LX 2012. Everything was different than a conventional car and how innovative Tata engineers were. Bonnet at the front with spare tyre, engine was at the back, amazing interior space, car battery under driver seat, screw jack under co-passenger seat. Fog lamps - standard 2 in front and 1 at the rear. Front power windows (switches are in front of the gear knob), central locking. Fold able mirrors on both sides. Overall the top end LX model felt a great package to me. Power as mentioned in the brochure was increased from 35 PS to 38 PS.
Test Drive
After the demo, I asked for a test drive and immediately had one with the top end variant. I have to say this that the initial pickup and acceleration is simply amazing for this car, especially I was pleasantly surprised to see the engine asking for more even as I went all the way to top gear. Perfect gear ratios for 1st and 2nd gears. A/C even on 1st is really powerful. For a guy like me at 8ft 8 in. and 95 kgs, the car was felt extremely spacious. With a tall body design, enough of head space and leg space for all. With the driver seat pulled back, there was still quite enough space for the rear passenger to seat comfortably. All in all - great space and thumbs up for city driving.
There is a small strap on the at the top behind the left rear backseat, pulling which makes the entire seat fold. It reveals good enough space to carry any shopping goodies. Below it is the engine compartment. There is no rear door to open up, entry is from inside.
Pros:
Great Space.
Top variant worth the price.
Extremely Spacious with great head and leg room space.
Powerful A/C
Quick pick-up and acceleration.
Enough boot for quick weekend shopping.
Improvements
Power steering would help
Engine noise during idle conditions.
Fit and finish lacks quality.
Gear shifting is ok, although not great.
Colors available : Pearl White, Mojito Green, Papaya Orange, Sunshine Yellow, Metereo Silver, Champagne Gold.
It seems that the top variant - Nano LX is selling well, any saturday when I went, saw at least 2 nanos ready for delivery. Not much waiting, I got mine in 2 weeks time. Preference seemed to be Pearl White and Papaya Orange. I liked Pearl White Nano and opted for it.
Used the PDI on the forum and it helped. I had told the sales rep. that I wanted to check the car prior to registration. They get it from their stockyard and keep it at their terrace. Inspected and found it ok. Nothing untoward during the entire process. I checked the date of manufacture from their systems which was 1-Dec-2011.
Delivery Day: 13-Feb-2012
Car was washed and kept ready with garland. One of the reps. gave me all the documents and we checked out the car in detail again using PDI.
They too have a checklist and it is advisable to go through all the items thoroughly. Staff was courteous, thanked them and was out !
Good experience overall.
Financial details
On road price :
@ 2,29L, got a discount of 10K, so got it at 2.19L. (Discount was on Dec'11 models - mine was Dec'11). Both Tata and HDFC offer same rate of interest at @13% at reducing interest. Did not check out HDFC.
Accessories : Mud flaps and floor mats - @1000/-.
Insurance : 1500/-
(Opted for Tata AIG - zero depreciation clause - details mentioned in one of team-bhp posts)
RTO No. : 500/-
Wanted the no. to add up to 6. (adds up to my mother's birth date)
Rest of the accessories : @13000/-
Got them fitted at Durga Car Decor - next to Mocha at end of Law College Rd.
Nano Cushions, Front Sun film, Side films, JVC Car deck having blue tooth connectivity, USB etc std. features, additional antenna, remote and 2 speakers.
While fitting the cushions on the back seat, ensure that the strap used to pull and fold the back seat does is still on the outside. You would have a harrowing time to get it out if at all they mess this up. This was a good point in one of the discussion forums.
Overall Cost on road : @2.35L
Running till date: @130 kms.
Uploading few pictures of nano I had taken during delivery and post fitting of some accessories.
