Assuming the new one will be launched in November, use that fact as a negotiating point, and try to bid around 20 and increase a bit. In my personal openion 20-22L would be a nice price.

We all wish!
On-road would be around 35ish. Wait and watch.

Based on the facts like Crysta's pricing, Fortuner as a CKD, Toyota's pricing strategy, new taxes etc, I doubt we get it in 35L on road. My guess is around 40L on-road for the base model.
Toyota will still have a large queue of people will be waiting for it. :-)

Could someone tell me if Fortuner comes with 2 keys or 3?

I have recently bought a used Fortuner (2013 4x4) and while I got both the keys none have the red alarm button on them. Is it possible that the previous owner got a new set issued or something else?

I have a '16 fortuner and it came with 3 sets of keys. 2 with remote and 1 without. But none of the keys have a red alarm button in them. It just has a lock button and an unlock button. That is about it.

Hey guys,

I currently own a Renault Duster and plan to upgrade to a "pre-owned" Fortuner sometime next year.

My requirements:

1. Vehicle should be less than 5 years old
2. Odometer reading of around 1 lakh KM is okay ( That's common in Fortuner! )
3. First owner with all service records & clean documents ( Most important )
4. Manual Transmission ( 4x2 / 4x4 ). I don't like Automatics.
5. Budget: ~ 18 Lakhs

I did some research online. Vehicle with above criteria is available in the range of 16 lakhs - 20 lakhs ( Bangalore )

Need advice from Experts or Fortuner owners on below topic.

1. Is it a good decision to buy "pre-owned" Fortuner if above criteria is met ( I plan to keep the vehicle for 5 years )

2. I did see some vehicles in Toyota U-Trust ( Online ). Their quote is on little higher side ( Say 20% more )
How reliable they are? Specially Certified cars from Toyota U-Trust?

3. Any other "trusted" dealer in Bangalore?

4. How about online Auto sites like Cartrade.com? They also have listing of Certified cars.

5. I would like to get the vehicle completely checked by my side before closing the deal.
I am not a Automotive "Technical" guy. Can we consult a "Car Evaluator" in Bangalore who can help with this? ( I don't mind paying their fees )
If any experts from Team-BHP who is willing to help with Evaluation, that is highly appreciated! ( Of course, we can have a big party later! ) :D

Thanks in advance

Cheers,
RAHS

Having bought a 2013 Fortuner recently, here are my responses.

1. Depends totally on your requirements. Its a great vehicle and I find it easy to drive in both city & on highways. However, its a body on frame SUV and its driving dynamics match that of a truck or bus rather than the last hatchback / sedan you drove. The biggest shocker could simply be this if you haven't driven a Fortuner before.

You don't want a 4x4 and if that was the case with me I'd never buy it. An XUV has much better driving dynamics and is a lot more comfortable for the driver & passengers. In fact I'd totally not consider any body on frame SUV because monocoques are so much better at the driving experience they offer.

You are also not considering automatic but the only reason I didn't buy Fortuner's 4x4 + Auto variant was because of the budget. Firstly this combo is difficult to find and every car that I came across had asking of 22+. I think Fortuner Automatic has nothing going against it compared to the manual variant. Its not a DSG but doesn't make the car slog either.

Another reason to consider the automatic would be truck-life long throw of the gear stick in manual plus there's a constant vibration of the gear stick while the engine is on and it doesn't appeal to many.

If you any other specific query, happy to answer.

2. I would prefer them over a car dealer but not put my faith 100% just because of the name Toyota.

3. Never trust any car dealer, ever! Do the needed footwork and use your judgement, everyone on the other side is simply trying to sell you their car so again, don't trust anyone.

4. Totally useless. I have seen the process of "certifying" in Delhi and it doesn't mean much. One 55k run Fortuner had visible torn tyres with rubbing hanging and big gashes and the "certified" car had tyre condition mentioned as "Excellent".

5. Take the Fortuner to the nearest Toyota A.S.S and ask for a pre-purchase inspection. It would cost you ~3k and they would check each and everything in the car. The report would be comprehensive and you can use that to negotiate better price. Word of caution though, don't rely on this 100%!

Lastly, even before Toyota's pre-purchase inspection, please do a thorough check-up of the car in daylight. Ask the seller to leave you with the car for 15-20 mins and open every door, lock, switch on every light, check the paint carefully all across, open the engine bay and look for any welds etc.

Shoes for this car are expensive so check the manufacturing date and this'll again help you with negotiations.

Thanks much for your detailed response on this. Highly appreciated!
Could you please share more details on your recent buy? Like Price, Variant, Odo reading & dealer etc. That would certainly give me some idea.

I have driven XUV. It was really comfortable. But never driven any body on frame SUV's including Fortuner. But from the reviews, I see that, their driving dynamics are totally different & not very comfortable like monocoque SUV's. So I need to drive one & see if I find it convenient. May be I will hire a rented Fortuner for a day ( Zoomcar ) & see how is the driving experience. Accordingly make a decision. Will keep you posted. Thanks again for the response :thumbs up

Hello Folks,

Greetings.

I have always been a petrol head and fan of antique cars (Zen, Old Baleno, Vtec..to name a few etc are those in my garage). My dad though use an 2011 Innova, I'm hardly bitten by it as an enthusiast. I have driven it extensively for many long drives, still lose steam at the top end of my many journeys to Palani and Chennai highways. But that (top-end) is not my requirement though, just to convey a bit about Innova. I know it's a better cruiser and plaint at long drives, makes journey a breeze. Still not a head turner, maybe with Crysta it's proving wrong.

However, the fortuner is making waves in my heart to own it. With its Torque, Road Presence and my loads of luggage to carry for my once in a month visit and drive of 700 km it makes my obvious choice - though I know the rear brakes are not great and the bit of bumpy rides on uneven roads- from the many reviews in tbhp. I'm still ok to live with it :)

Want to hear few tips on buying and owning it. I'm on the verge of getting a pre-owned 2012 model, so pretty excited to upgrade to a "pre-owned" Fortuner sometime soon.

I have zeroed-in a 2012 Model, 1,15,000 on the odo. Single owner driven and he is also an enthusiast. First owner with all service records & clean documents 4. Manual Transmission ( 4x4 ). He had shown me a bill amount of 25k for the change of some part (will get more info If need) of 4X4, which got stuck with some net or something while doing a ride in drive-in beach.

Now to the million Dollar query - > What would be the best price in your humble opinion for the above said Fortuner. It is Bangalore registered vehicle.

Model : 2012
Version : Manual (4X4)
Odo : 1,15,000 km
Ownership : Single (Company to Individual)
Tyres : Good for another 10,000km
Service records : Available
Pending work (not mandatory though, but current owner ready to change it) :Upgrade brakes to Brembo

I did a small test drive within Bangalore Urban, one important item noticed was I felt gear lever much higher to hold. Not sure, how the ergonomics are on a long drive. Cant compare the body rolls to sedan though, I fully agree.

Regards
prsn

After a repair work on the tail gate, the tail-lamps are not working on one 2013 4x2 5AT owned by a relative.

I believe it is a result of a connector left loose or unclipped while the repair was carried out. Peculiarly, the brake lights are working fine.

Can someone tell me how the tail-gate / tail-lamp wiring is routed so that I can check it myself.

Well done! All the best on the new AT monster.

Goosebumps!!! It's been 11 years and I'm still as starry eyed as on day 1 - 3rd August 2012!

And way more in love. In between, Rozinante was in the fire at the Bangalore 2019 Aero Show and fortuitously survived (thanks to unknown good-samaritans clap: pushing it out of the fire's edge). Deeply ever-indebted to team-bhp, and particularly this thread, that convinced me when the AT was just newly introduced. Of course I'd have preferred an AT with 4x4, but Toyota hadn't launched it yet (also, wise ones say one can't have everything.)

I'll confess that I've been tempted elsewhere at times and almost swayed into infidelity (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/what-...ml#post5571545) but I'm sure glad I stepped back and stayed faithful to this one true love :loveit

Karnataka rules allow at least 15 years, so will keep till 2027, and hopefully can extend further at that time. Whatever garage permutations are ever considered, this will remain the unchanged pillar!
