re: YetiBlog® - TheOne® buys a car. (VW Polo 1.2 )

hey Sam! Merry Christmas

Glad you bought the Polo for TheOne. It's a no nonsense perfect European hatch. I have owned the 1.2 Polo highline for over a year now and I'm extremely satisfied. And yes, the color is pepper grey which is the loveliest metallic color they have. My car still shines like new! Hope you went for that color Candy red is non-metallic and the red you see right now won't look so good after a couple of years unless you do a detailing every few months.

I'm sure TheOne will enjoy every bit of the car. Excited about the delivery experience. I bought mine from VW Downtown too.

I hope the car has been finalized and their are no changes as such apart from the color options.
Its been a delight to read the whole narration.

Just a small question. Did you try the new swift?

Congratulations on the far-away Polo! Glad to know the Yeti (not the car) is still around and writing. The forum needed a shot of humour, no question. Many thanks and please keep it going.

OT Ashish, This Team BHP site has become sort of lost people meeting again. Remember me, this is Vikas, your travel partner during Tirupati trip long time ago maybe in 1996. By the way, Sam is enjoying post-new year holidays in Europe, so hang one before he updates this pull-your-hair-in-desperation blog.

re: YetiBlog® - TheOne® buys a car. (VW Polo 1.2 )

I apologise for my absence. After returning from my holiday in Germany and Austria, I have been busy at the Auto Expo in New Delhi.
As a peace offering I promise you a new Christmas and New Year's Blog in the next few days with some interesting photos.

Back to the story now

-----------------------------------------------------

It was a tough the next day. It was difficult to choose as the actual number of Pfeffergrau (Pepper Gray) cars were minimal. As expected, most polos were white.

Then we saw one.

I like it!
I'm not sure,
say I, it looks a bit, umm. Middle-aged.
Middle-aged??
Yes. Grandpa colour.
Grandpa?
asks she.
Must you repeat the last word of everything I say with a question? lol

Then destiny ensures that the pepper gray car is overtaken by...

A shining sporty red polo.
Look at THAT! WOOHOO!!
She laughs. That is a nice red isn't it?

And that's the thing with reds. Every car manufacturer has a red, few get it perfectly right. The last car that got it right was a Hyundai Accent Viva. I had my Lancer custom painted in the Skoda red shade when I bought it.

But VW got it GRRREAT. Flashy, exciting, sporty, fun!!

I must admit, I wasn't too sure, but the red looks pretty sportiv. She uses the German word, but I know what it means.

And so that evening we came to the same conclusion.

A red comfortline Polo.

I call the showroom and order the car. Since we're paying upfront he assures me delivery in a week. I convey the good news and she's happy.

I'd better order the alloys.
Alloys? What is that?
Wheels.
I make a circle in the air with my finger.
Sam, the car comes with wheels and tyres and everything.

Pause for dramatic effect and for effective response. Sigh. Women.

See, it comes with 14" ordinary steel wheels and O..K... tyres. You cannot drive around on these.
Huh? Why not? Everybody else does.
Well, performance and safety for starters. Alloy wheels are made of a composite material that is stronger and safer and lighter, thereby ensuring...

Sam, really?

I sigh. My wife knows me well.

Alright, alright they look superb. The look of the car will change completely, it will look great, it will look sportiv! Remember my lancer?

She sighs. What will this cost?
Oh, about 20 thousand or so for everything.

Is this really necessary Sam?
Of course!!

re: YetiBlog® - TheOne® buys a car. (VW Polo 1.2 )

I have this thing about wheels with Multi PCD holes. You know, the kind with dozens of holes and then you rotate it around till 5 holes match and the rest just stay unused.

I hate that. That one-size-fits-all concept.

No, I like wheels that are made for a car. 5 holes that match perfectly.

I called my friend Autopsyche who swiftly arranges what I want from Delhi and trucks it to Mumbai the next day. I go through the wheels that are perfectly designed for this car and choose the ones that we both likfe.

These.

Ok. Nice to see you back.

And as an appetizer (for you sam, to compell you to come out with the other details faster), here is an entirely unrelated ancedote.

Me and a colleauge drive around in an i20 for a full day, doing what we babus are supposed to do - inspection. The official gaadi - the Jeep - is non existent in my office.

The audio is simply great. I pester him for details, and he tells, with a snooty look "the car is 'full option'; no mods". I refuse to give up. 4 hours, several inspections, and some cajoling later, he confesses to installing Bose in the front doors and stock speakers in the rear.

Then, we go to a restaurant. After sometime he starts bragging. "That bose thing you heard; no - that is nothing. You should listen to what I ahd in the car I sold.".

"what was that?"

"JV ...."

"JVC??" (me says, sort of derisively).

"No ... not JVC, they make video players you silly".

"JBL??"

"Exactly. That is what is music ...:(droools) "you know, those speakers, preferably imported from Singapore, Michael Jackon...the perfect combination".
