Re: My dream machine: Skoda Laura DSG, Ambiente

Congrats.
I am big fan of DSG and would have loved to have it on my TSi.

So when you reached 190, were you fully flooring it or was some more reserve power left? I love my TSi because even at 190 there is still good amount of reserve.

Don't forget to shift the DSG to "N" when you stop at traffic lights or during waiting. This will increase the life of the DSG big time.

And my goodyears stop reasonably well. Reading on the forum, it appears I am one of the few lucky guys to have gotten a good set from Goodyear, but I honestly feel they are not as bad as made out to be. I do 160 quite often and have had to stop urgently from those speeds and have always stopped without any drama. Check the typre pressure. 30 to 34 PSI is good enough. Anything higher than that, your dynamics will go for a toss and you will unknowingly blame the car or the tyres.

Cheers!

Re: My dream machine: Skoda Laura DSG, Ambiente

I am enjoying every bit of laura as each day is passing.
Interiors give a premium feel. Dashboard, Stalks, Buttons, Knobs & DSG Gear Knob, all feel so soft & classy to touch.
Pics of the interior

Parking lights: super white Xenon same as stock parking lights on Laura RS.

DRL's XENON SUPER WHITE (Chrome Style) NATURAL GLASS. These are error free bulbs. A must have replacement for Stock yellow DRL's bulbs.

Thanks mate, ya a TSI with DSG would be great combo but as of now will have to settle with a TDI, anyways this is also a great fun to drive machine.

At 190kph there was surely much reserve left , will exploit the top speed of TDI someday if roads permit.

Thanks for the valuable advice regarding DSG. I'll try getting use to changing over to N when stopping at traffic light.

You are lucky to get good shoes for your TSI. I am keeping Tyre pressure around 32Psi in all tyres, so i guess dynamics are very well under control, the problem lies with the tyres. Because of goodyear stock tyres, i avoid speeds beyond 150kph.

Congratualation Carmania!

The Laura DSG is a fantastic machine, I almost bought it. Got scared with the horror stories circulating about Skoda and bought a Civic instead

Cheers - enjoy the drive!

Regarding the divine smell when using windscreen nozzles is because of the concentrate mixed with the water for the wiper fluid. Get the concentrate from the Skoda workshop and you will have the divine smell as long as you want. Even I have the same feeling when I use the windscreen nozzles on my VW Vento TDi.

@carmania You have the Buddh International Circuit to try your luck with topspeed.I think they would open up for track days.Lucky Delhiites.

I own a manual Laura diesel. The topspeed of the car is 195,maybe a bit more but not more than 200 kph. However the DSG may have much more to give.I did not go for the DSG as the Laura is used only for city drives, damn I should have gone for the DSG!

Have a look at the accelerator pedal in a bus or a truck. Additionally, in Laura it is drive by wire so there is a wire connected to the pedal (should be a sensor in the pedal that indicates how much it's pressed).

Isn't the manual Laura 105 BHP while the DSG one is 140 BHP?
In the lighter vein - a fast car can be driven slow (say, in the city), but a slow car can not be driven fast (say, on the highway), so you should have bought the DSG one and then driven it slowly whenever required. No offence meant, just pulling your leg...

Cheers!

Re: My dream machine: Skoda Laura DSG, Ambiente

Carmania,
You can change the display to km/l using vcds. If i remember right you have to go 'instruments' and change from 'rest of the world' to 'japan'. You can also change to "UK" but you will start to get mph display ( you can find lots of info on briskoda!).
Even though the car can comfortably do 200kmph and can give you that surge of power just about whenever u need, i personally love just cruising at around 100 kmph keeping the rpm between 15-20. That feeling is just blissful. Although i must admit when your in the drivers seat you almost feel cocky just knowing what the car is capable of!!
You are right about the stock goodyears! They can be considered manageable at best! If you drive a lot in the highways then you are probably better of changing to primacy lc's asap!

Ya, DSG having few Horses more than manual, might go beyond 200kph, can comment on this only after taking her for a sprint on Buddh International circuit .

This is the arrangement common in most of the cars. The accelerator pedal protrudes from top. This is a pic of vento.

This is the arrangement in skoda laura. Accelerator Pedal is placed at the floor itself. I find this arrangement more comfortable on long drives.

Re: My dream machine: Skoda Laura DSG, Ambiente

This is exactly what I was thinking, hence the query - though I haven't driven one which protrudes from the floor, my feeling is this is much more comfortable, even during bumper to bumper city traffic! Thanks!

Well, comfort-wise I am OK with both types, as long as I can keep it pressed all the way.

BTW, nice to see only 2 pedals. You must be smiling happily while most others are braving it out with their left knee in bumper to bumper traffic and when road clear up, they still can not keep up with you...ha ha ha...

Thanks for the info,
I know that can be changed to km/lt through Vcds. I even visited dealer for the same, but my bad luck that the their VAG-COM software got updated few days back, and the new one doesn't have the option in instruments to change the bits to UK. We tried a lot to fiddle around with instruments option, but nothing worked. And i donot know anyone else here in delhi who can get this job done.
BTW what is this mph display, does it mean that all the distances will be shown in miles & speed in mph instead of kmph. If this is the case ill stick to the current display.
