Thats a wonderful piece of news that with RD not only the performance has improved but, also sorted the turbolag to a large extent and not to mention the mouth watering FE that you are getting.

Do keep constantly updating if that FE figure was just one-odd case or regular

I did notice that adding the petebox in my previous car did the same. Increased the FE and also the turbolag issue was taken care of.

But, the problem with these additions is once your used to them, there is no way you can go back to stock conditions

My constant FE in city conditions with 100% AC is 11kmpl and sometimes 11.50kmpl

Cruze even without the RD box can pull from 40kmph in 4th gear not just 3rd. I have tried that a few times.

re: Chevy Cruze 12500kms update with minor mods

Hello Everyone,

The experience has been good so far with the RD box. The car is now giving me around 13.5kmpl in city driving which is a very good jump from the 9.5 I was getting earlier.

I am attaching a couple of pics here :

First three are of a car wash in Noida. The next three are of the spolier and the ICE setup. The second last one is our crazy family with 3 Cruze's

The last one is of the latest addition

re: Chevy Cruze 12500kms update with minor mods

Hi Tushar
Congrats. It was a lot of fun reading this thread.

Few questions on the Cruze:
1. What about the rear seat, read in a few places that its very cramped and will not accommodate 3 adults for a long drive.
2. Did you replace the Head Unit also while doing your ICE upgrade or only speakers and amps. Reason for asking is that the HU is so integrated with the Steering controls, the console and the Aux and USB input available near the gear.
3. Did you replace the Stock Reverse Sensors with new ones or are they stock reverse sensors
4. Does the LTZ come with a car security system and does the security system have a motion sensor (Ultrasonic) ?

Thanks

This box of yours never ceases to amaze, be it the power figures or the FE you are achieving.

Are you in Noida? I m there too, these days and would love to take a look at it if you don't mind. You too can get nostalgic and take a look at Hariya (my Scorp)

re: Chevy Cruze 12500kms update with minor mods

Hey Guys,

Everything is running great and now and the FE in all city driving is about 13.5Kmpl which is pretty good than my earlier City FE of around 9.5Kmpl. The car has been on the P1 mode since the full tank and will check actual average in that mode at the next tank up.

But, there is one problem. The car is pumping out too much black smoke. This was the case before the box also but not soo much. The car has done about 3.5k now and I will be getting it checked at the service centre tomorrow. What can be the reason for this? And can anyone suggest whether a stock replacement K&N will be better or a Cold Air Intake(K&N Apollo)?

Thanks

Hey Dev,

I was in Noida but now I'm back to Jaipur. I keep coming to Noida once or twice a month and will definitely get in touch once I'm there.

Cheers

It is below 1000 RPM. Cruze pulls well in 4th gear only from about 60 kmph (1300 RPM).

Here we go, I knew it was too good to last and I was hesitant just because of this one reason. As mentioned in my previous post, the biggest drawback of getting a power boosting box is this "embarassment". No matter what you do like getting a replacement air filter or even a custom air intake, Trust me, this smoke situation would not change much.

My previous car had the Pete Box and a replacement Green Cotton Filter. Still it used to smoke under hard accelaration and I could see the smoke from inside the car through the ORVM.

I tried all kinds of stuff like changing Petrol bunks, going back to OEM filter etc...Still it smoked a lot....

Embarrassing......

If we are oblivious to smoke, i agree the box is pretty addictive

+1.

It pulls from 900rpm if road is straight like any other city.

But, if your in a city like Hyderabad where there are lot of gradients, then it pulls easily in 4th from 1300rpm at 40kmph

And, if your on a slightly downward slope. 4th gear at 900rpm at 40kmph it will "surge" forward

Forgive my ignorance, but I am just wondering. If increasing mileage and power by so much is as easy as just plugging in a device, why don't these manufacturers do it in the first place before selling their vehicles?

Hi Wolf,

That is the exactly why I've said RD claims the increase. Real life situation is totally different. After using the the P1 mode for more than 1000kms in the city and highways, I can surely say that it was worth every penny spent. My FE has gone up from 9.5 to 11kmpl. And the power surge is completely different.

I also got a Stock replacement K&N today and it has made a difference but is barely noticeable. The sound has increased and the car is revving freely. I will update the difference with the K&N after another 1000kms.

But, after using the P1 mode for so many kms, the Stock mode feels so boring

Thank you tusharsethi.

Why can't the manufacturers make these adjustments in the ECU for greater mileage and performance before launching the car? For example, if Chevy can tweak this in the ECU to give even as little as 3-4 bhp and 2-3 litres mileage more, i am pretty sure they would sell a lot more cars than they are currently selling. 152 or 153 bhp sounds a lot more alluring than 148 bhp, don't you think? Is it because after a certain level of tweaking, the car starts giving up more smoke than the allowed norms? Because most of the users including you and mobike have reported a lot of smoke from the exhaust after using an after-market tuning box. If so, that would make sense.

Hi Wolf,

My car was smoking a lot even before the tuning box. There's not much changed in that department since the box. All I can think about the reason of giving lesser power is that when these guys design an engine, they always assume to use 70-80% of its potential to be on the safer side for long term reliability. Using a tuning box should take it to about 90% I think. I will talk to the RD people about this and should get you a logical answer on Monday.

On the other hand, I know a lot of people here dont like the alloys I was using on the car. But, there is a surprise coming soon

Hello Everyone,

I know a lot of people here hated the alloys I out on the car, and after reading all the comments, I started hating them too

Finally exchanged those alloys and tyres for new ones. I got Lenso ES7 in Black with Mirror Lip and 225/50 R17 Continental CPC2. I hope you guys will like these. Ill be putting up better pics tomorrow. Till then enjoy

Cheers

Tushar, let me be the first to congratulate you on new alloys and tyres. Now we are talking ! These alloys perfectly compliment the color shade and your Cruze just become a lot meaner

Would love to know your comments on these queries

1. What's the major difference you see in upsizing from 16" to 17" and increase in width? Does the body touch the tyre when car is fully loaded? Would appreciate a short write up about the ride and handling after this upsize.

2. Which tyres were you using before CPC2? your comments on difference?

3. Finally, the quintessential indian question. How much for the alloys and tyres?

Enjoy your ride.....
