The Verna looks the best in that side profile. In that angle it puts to shame even the cars a segment above it. Wish the front could have been more aggressive (a la Fiesta), but then can we get all the goodies in one car

PS: Drove it to 145 yesterday, still don't understand what the fuss with handling/stability is all about. It was very well planted all the way through. Maybe the issue is with the Petrol version because its more than 100 kg lighter?

Guys, there is a serious problem here.

Either all the t-bhp verna owners are lazy people or only the lazy folks buy the new verna. Just scroll back a page or two to understand what I mean. Come on guys, this car deserves more ownership reviews than what we have on the forum.

By the way - Congratulations on your car. I feel you got the 1.6 CRDI version? Have a pleasant ownership experience.

Have you checked the Hyundai website? What is it showing over there? What is the ex-showroom price that the dealer has quoted you?

I believe the prices for Mumbai & Navi-Mumbai would be the same, because they have not listed Navi-Mumbai separately on their site. Please find below the price-list for Mumbai & see for yourself if these have been increased.

I had done two TDs (one petrol, one diesel) of this car back in June. Found it quite stable, although max I could take it to 80 in the city traffic.

Guys, this forum begs for more verna ownership reviews. How much time will it take? Just take some 10-15 pics, put in a few paragraphs and voila, there's your thread

The handling/stability is scary on a road which has undulations. There is no problem on smooth and even roads. Its the same with my I20 CRDi and man can it get scary at times.

I managed to get a test drive of the all new Hyundai verna 1.6 top end CRDI SX(O) today, since the launch of this car I was very keen to take her out for a spin, just to see how the Koreans have responded to the growing completion from the Vento’s and the other diesel sedans.

Looks:

The car looks stunning from all aspects the front has these very newly shaped “L” Shaped fog lamps, eagle shaped bulging headlamps the all new design, the fluidic nature of the overall design is just stunning, the sharp lines flows from the sides and blends nicely to the rear of the car giving her a nice and sporty looks, the rear lamps of the car have the reverse lamps, indicators blended into one complete unit which is very impressive, the dual chrome exhaust pipe adds to the sporty image of his car. Fair to say that this new chick from the Hyundai stable is a great looker and demands a second look.

All rite before I keep on drooling to the looks of this car, lets move on to the other aspects.

Drive:

The showroom was only having 1.4 variant for the TD’s but I was very keen on having the 1.6 CRDI for the test drive, so the showroom guys asked me to wait for an hour before they get the 1.6 for the TD, after waiting for an hour there comes the 1.6 in silky silver for the TD, I immediately grabbed the wheels and turned on the ignition, its came to life with a very decent purr…!! I was expecting a great deal of diesel clatter but to my surprise the engine was very quiet and hard to tell that the unit is a diesel motor, I adjusted the seats as per my driving style and slotted the first gear to get her moving, the diesel unit has VGT, there is not a great deal of turbo lag and the car feel quite spirited, but once you hit 2000 RPM it goes like wooohhhh……!! It comes to life and feel like a rocket which responds very well to every moment of your right foot, it is so much fun driving her the engine feels happy to be revved and gives a feel that there is a lot of juice in this car, the steering is very light and responds very well to every input from the driver like a obedient machine, I wanted to see how she behaves on the bad roads and potholes on the Delhi roads, guess what after some heavy rains recently I didn’t had to try hard to find such a road, so there we are, she does soak all the bad roads very nicely the suspensions are tuned to suit the Indian conditions, just when I was enjoying driving this car the sales guy interrupted as we approached the showroom, I must say it was one hell of a experience driving this car, I feel like getting one for myself..

+1 - I have seen people compare Verna's stability with i20's (I own a i20 CRDi)

If that's the case, it is indeed scary. Not just stability / roll around the corners, but braking too. (Incredibly nervous braking) - Cornering is like one done on a boat

Super light steering, which is useful in city, is a nightmare in corners - Zero feedback, disconnected feel etc.

But engine is smooth and gear shifting feel is great.

Hi guys...

After much persuasion with SA of sankey Rd Bangalore Trident Hyundai, they assured me of delivery before this month end, and also told me that I can make the payment for further processing.

To confirm the same and make payment I visited the showroom today, I was told that they had confirmed the dispatch of vehicle from the logistics Dept of Chennai and can make the payment. On further questioning I was told that engine No/Chassis No allocation will be done on 23/24 Sep when they can confirm the delivery date.

Hence, to be on safer side I gave a post dated cheque (for 22 Sep) of Rs 7 Lc. When I reconciled the balance to be paid at time of delivery I was updated that the ex showroom price w.e.f 1-Sep-2011 for my 1.6 CRDI SX was Rs 962084.00 a whopping increase of 15K compared to the ex showroom price when I booked in 2-June.

Hence the current price will be applicable and not the price when I booked almost 4 months back . This seriously brings the doubt if Hyundai deliberately delayed the delivery to push customers to this situation for getting hiked price .

I had no choice but to express my frustration and walk out, now I am waiting with crossed fingers of delivery by this month end.

Kindly request fellow BHPians to give their comments/suggestions on this scenario

Hearing this for the first time. Was there an official communication from hyundai on this? I dont recollect seeing any.

Hyundai is going the VW way too. Just that they have increased the price within a few months of launch and are not giving price protection to people who have booked earlier. Bad business practice if you ask me, very disappointed if it is true.

Can others clarify this?

I can not feel the presence of the rear speakers, when fader is at the centre. Even when the fader is adjusted fully to the rear, the sound quality is forgettable & much much inferior to the front speakers. My querries:

1. Is it due to poor speaker quality at rear or rear sound output of the HU is like this.
2. It appers that there are two tweeters at the front & are connected to the front output. Am I correct?
3. What kind of speakers have been installed at front and rear?
4. Can I just replace the rear speakers to a better one without any cutting of the door pads etc. ? If yes, then which one, approx cost & will it solve the problem of the feeling of non-existence of rear speakers.
5. Can oval speakers be installed at the rear tray without amps ? Is it advisable? Will it require cuttings of the rear tray?
6. If I go for a bass tube, where to install it? Music shop boy told me to fit the bass tube inside the boot. Got surprised, how then the sound would come inside.

Somehow, for now I would not like cut any of the original parts of the car, thus thinking of the bass tube & rear speaker replacement only.

Any advise please.

Some comments from my side. Others can chip in with their inputs.

1. Speaker quality is poor, just go ahead and change it. SQ should improve dramatically.
2. It may be component speakers in front where as co-axials in rear. Usually all set-ups are this way.
3. No idea - usually will be some useless chinese/taiwanese junk.
4. You sure can.
5. Most certainly, yes. This is the best option for rear fill. It will require cutting of the parcel tray though. No big deal.
6. Yes, bass tube/sub-woofer can be installed in the boot. No issues there. You will hear the sound alright.

Verna has pre-outs in the OEM HU.Do the upgrades in steps and you can add the external amplifier and sub-woofer too when you feel the need.

Just came back from another visit to Coorg. Got a FE of 17 which is good considering the high speeds I was driving. We were 4 in the car and the rear passengers did not have any complaints and said that they were comfortable. Since the rear passengers were travelling in the car for the first time and asked them to compare their rear comfort with their previous cars (Fiat Siena and Ford Ikon), they felt that this car was as good as any other car and had no discomfort. However because of the low design ingress and egress is difficult for older people.

Braking is superb and I like the preciseness of the steering. Did not bottom out the car as I was slow on bad roads and over the monstrous road humps. The engine and gear box is a real pleasure.

The only difficultly that I have faced is that when it rains the water does not run off the rear glass making it difficult for a clear rear view.
