Theoretically, I think it is possible. But practically, it would result in some complications that would need to be sorted out. This kind of thing would be best done at the factory.

In the end, I guess it's simply not worth the trouble to do such a modification by oneself.

I was specially interested to know about the suspension upgrades, if any, on the latest models.

For only a brief distance, yes.

The suspension has been definitely stiffened, specially at the rear, which made it a bit bouncy everytime the car went over a speed-breaker or a pothole at moderate speeds. Couldn't take her for more than 60 kmph to make a full observation about the upgraded suspension though.

I would say the stiffened suspension of the 2014 Verna is at par with the 2014 City, but riding comfort is slightly better in the Verna, since it comes with bigger, wider tyres (195/55/R16 against 175/65/R15).

I agree that it wont be worth the trouble, but i'l continue the research.

That is where I got the idea from. But he couldn't get this done to his Elantra let alone Verna. Probably because the ECU would need to be changed and coded.

Had an official meet at Kolkata. There, changed to tyres to Yoko db/550-205/55/R16, after doing 45k on stock tyres. Cost 9 k a piece. Thereafter did the return drive of approx 400 km. My experiences-

- Expected better steering feel & better handling at high speeds, but it did not improve one-bit.:Frustrati
- Noise level reduced - could feel when speed is > 120 kmph, on concrete roads- the improvement is significant & can be immediately felt at any speed.
- No difference felt on grip.
- Slightly more cushiony ride.
- No issue of touching body till now, have not tested yet on full load.
- Impact on FE has not been ascertained.


Also changed the crap rear speakers to infinity 2-ways ( size- 6.5 inch) . These are way better than the stock ones. Could have been much better, if the output of the head unit had been atleast like that to the front.

Overall, happy with both the upgrades. Posting few pictures of both.

That was my reaction when my cousin asked me about it.
How much did they cost you?

Rs 3,500/- for the pair of speakers & Rs 200/- for the pair of rings. Total Rs 3,700/-.

With the upgraded tyres, did a non-AC FE test today in the same manner I did few days back (page-140). The MID FE came to 29.8 km/pl. With the error of upgrade (1.77 % ), MID FE works out to be 30.3 km/l. With stock tyres it was 34.2 km/l. So the reduction is a significant 11.4 %. The data may not be entirely fool-proof, but gives a fair bit of indication. I never expected the FE to go down by this big a margin. On typical highway runs (90-110 kmph) , I used to get a FE of around 18-19 km/l, which should now become 16- 17 km/l.

What is the experience of others with upgraded tyres with regard to FE?

It will display you 2-4% less FE due to SPEEDO error after tyre upgrades but actual FE may be the same, so relax and enjoy your new tyres :)

Drove a 2014 diesel automatic. There is a marked improvement in the suspension setup. I drove the 2014 car back to back with a 2013 and it takes very little time to feel the difference. It is surely stiffened up and the car is now good to drive. I can say that there is little to differentiate a Verna to a VW Vento or Skoda Rapid as far as ride goes. This view is strictly from a drivers point. I have no idea what its like at the back.

As for the rest of the car, well, the interiors are top notch in fit and finish, the engine is incredibly quiet, refined for a diesel and has good grunt once you get to 2000rpm. Its not as tractable a engine as the Rapid. If you are too lazy to down shift into the correct gear, you will experience huge turbo lag. Steering remains lifeless as ever.

The auto box is alright as long as you keep the car in the city cycle. As long as you drive sane, the shifts are smooth and barely noticeable. Get excited and you will hate it. Shifts are not fast enough, even in tiptronic, the engine screams and the biggest problem, you've got just 4 cogs to play with. Past 100kmph, you are already out of the economy band and you'll start sipping more gas. The asking price of well above 14lac on road, for a 4 speed auto is stupid.

Much improved experience with the Verna. The highlight being the superb diesel engine and ride quality. I'd say its the benchmark in terms of refinement, in its segment.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm looking for a petrol AT sedan. Petrol because my monthly running will hardly top 500-700 KMs and AT because apart from me it will be primarily driven by dad and fiance in Mumbai suburban traffic.
I did briefly considered an AT hatch but we've had a lot of hatchbacks in the family hence considered an upgrade.

Anyway, I did my usual test drives based on the reviews and ownership reports here and among the sedans available in my price range (10 - 11L) zeroed in on a Vento, Verna and the City. Which later got further narrowed to the Verna and the City, no offense to VW - it is probably the best car among the lot but the A.S.S. reports and not a great resale value have put me down.

Now I've heard tremendously good ownership reviews of the City AT, but not the Verna Petrol. I'm currently inclining on the Verna - it's giving me a great bang for my buck to be honest, but waiting on to hear from owners on how the AT has performed for them over the years.

To cut the story short, I would really appreciate any of you sharing feedback about the Verna Petrol AT or in case I did not search carefully it would help if you could redirect me to the relevant threads.

I picked up a Verna fluidic CX which as you'd know is the plain-jane version of the other successful sister the SX and the SX(O) despite having the same engine tuning.

In VW/Skoda there was a VAG-COM cable that could be used to enable/disable features in the car. I wanted to check if the speed sensing auto-lock function in the Hyundai verna can also be enabled similarly.

Test drove the 2014 1.6 Crdi Verna back to back with the 2012 sibling and Hyundai has done a good job with the suspension now making the ride a lot less bouncy. To add to it the steering weighs up nicely at triple digit speeds.

My brother is keen on finalizing the SX variant and would like to have the valuable feedback from fellow Bhpians on the other aspects of Verna, namely the maintenance costs and after sales support? The plan is to keep the car for the next 3 years and with the launch of the new City would you expect the resale value to take a hit?

I have homed in on Verna SX Diesel version and expected to get delivery in a week. I am going for a company lease option and hence no headaches regarding maintenance. However I want to decide on the color. I have shortlisted Silver & wine red. If someone cad advise on the maintainability of these colors, it would be helpful

I have a Metallic Dark Grey colored Verna.

My advice would be to stay with White or Silver & avoid dark colors in India. Considering our dusty atmosphere, if not washed every day, it would always appear dusty from outside.

And considering the way our stupid traffic is, small nicks & scratches donated by Auto wallahs & 2-wheelers are bound to happen. These would show up prominently when compared to White or Silver.
